Babcock not happy with top line

Lets give Miller Bertuzzi's spot and Bertuzzi Miller's spot. Drew was the first player to go hard to the net all damn season. Bertuzzi is GARBAGE. Started out terrible, got less terrible, and now he is just awful. Try any line combinations that don't see him higher than 3rd line.

11/21 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Canadiens 2 (SO)

Wings PP: Bertuzzi gets the puck. hangs onto the puck. still hanging onto the puck. Spin move. Skates around the player at the point. Another spin move. Poor pass. Puck leaves the zone.

Bertuzzi is such s***.... seriously.... he opted to skate around teammates instead of pass it Kronwall out is going to sting with Ericsson playing like crap and Lebda and Meech.

This intent to whistle bs ....

Per Mlive, from NHL Live: Can this be more idiotic? Everyone in the world sees one thing with several replay looks at it, but all because one fat-headed ref says "nope, I'm right, sorry" after seeing no review, everyone else must be wrong. So basically if the ref and the back goal-judge blink at the same time a puck goes in, it didn't go in. The whole process sounds ridiculously ignorant to me. I love the argument that you don't want TOO MUCH review, when 1) there is a goal reviewed like once a week in the NHL and 2) them blowing a call like last night based on a ref's inability to admit fault takes just as much time as if they had said 'sorry Dennis, this one is a goal' http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...referee_mi.html

Shanahan- Any Chance Wings Retire his #?

I'm gonna say its not enough. Statistically, he was more dominant before the Wings, but definitely is a Red Wing in the end. But retiring a player's number is the greatest honor you could give as an organization. I'd love to see Shanny get a jersey retirement ceremony at the Joe, but I don't think its possible.

    I hate shootouts

I've never liked the shootout either. I understand why there is a shootout, and I appreciate that games don't go on forever when there are potential back-to-backs, but they might as well just flip a coin as far as I'm concerned. Its not nearly as exciting as the penalty shot its meant to mimic. Every shootout I leave feeling like someone came in when the game was going overtime and shut off the lights. Its made even worse by only having 3 shooters each, with really the possibility to win it after 2. I never get the feeling something big is on the line in a shootout, every round is like a total crap-shoot. The goaltender and shooter might as well roll dice to see who wins each round: "Man! Great 6 by Ozzy! Pwn'd Toews with his 4! w00t!"

Going to Chicago game on Dec 20.

My girlfriend and I go to school in Milwaukee, WI, drove down for a game in Chicago last season, the one where the Wings came back and beat them in a shootout on a Hossa slapper. The fans were pretty rabid, extremely obnoxious, seemed to yell obscenities for obscenities sake. Overall, terrible fans in my experience. Went beyond simple harrassing, extremely belligerent. Loved after the Wings won, they were all so angry. Coming into the area, we both got harassed as expected for having our Wings gear on, but after the Wings won, I said to my girlfriend "Do you hear that?", "No?", "Exactly " Good luck to you, if the Wings win, it makes the belligerence funnier.

Zetterberg credits his linemates with his surge

Hank and Leino seem so similar in how they move with and protect the puck. They look great on the same line.

    Crosby vs Malkin

Malkin is the better player, period. Crosby has a very high skill set, but the more I hear about how Malkin can score at will some games and disappear others and Crosby doesn't score, but cares more, I think we are really splitting hairs and making a lot of assumptions. I'm not saying Crosby isn't without merit, I'm just saying he isn't as good as Malkin and I think we're grasping at straws to to try and find something he is better than Malkin at. I can see how some people can make the Yzerman-Fedorov comparison, but I think its way off. Yzerman was an incredible player in his prime before numerous injuries and had been with the franchise a decade before Fedorov, everyone loved Stevie so Fedorov felt under appreciated. Crosby was in the league a whole season before Malkin showed up, but Crosby is the poster boy. After Sid's Hart season, Malkin has been the better player save the disappearing act in 2008 Finals which he made up for this passed Final. Crosby will get more press because he is Canadian. Malkin does get the shaft a bit, because he is the better player. Crosby is a great hockey player, but not the best on his team and his leadership qualities are greatly exaggerated.

Zetterberg is a BEAST with a beard

True. Z is like Samson, he needs his hair long. Head and facial. He was slow out of the gate after going to Pasha's barber.

    Carbon Credit Salary Cap

I think its a pretty intriguing idea. I think what he's getting at as far as helping the financially struggling teams is more about helping them improve their on ice product faster by obtaining draft picks for the salary they aren't going to spend anyways. Unfortunately, I could see a whole big mess as far as when that salary cap borrowing begins and ends. Would such trades only be valid before the season and the cap borrowing only for that one season? Does then the draft pick have to be for the upcoming draft? Who decides what a draft pick is worth to a team in terms of the cap? What happens when teams spend picks for cap, then the cap is gone the next season, they are sans draft pick and sans cap space to resign players? I could see this causing mass confusion, great teams plummeting and mediocre teams building quickly. I guess that depends on preference whether you consider that good or bad.

Ovechkin out 4-5 weeks (team denies report)

too true, it was just a matter of time. love his style of play, but it'll eventually limit his career due to its high risk.

    What to do with Lebda?

Last night was by far Lebda's worst game of the season, and that is saying A LOT! Everytime we were hemmed in our own zone unable to clear, who's out there? Lebda and Ericsson. Everytime there is a point vacated and a pass goes sailing out of the zone? Lebda. Every odd man rush, one of either Lebda or Ericsson blows a pinch and the other is left to very poorly handle a 2-on-1. That pairing is puke and Lebda is the worst of it.

Wings PP is lazy and it sucks.

    Back to Bert

Yes. I think he isn't used to his teammates/linemates enough to keep pulling that, turnovers abound. But I don't think I saw any of them last night, which is probably a big factor as to why he looked so good out there. Nice hustle offensively without the mental lapses.
  20. b.shanafan14

    Back to Bert

Bertuzzi was really poor to start the season, which should be expected (but I'm not a Bert fan so I gotsta hate ). The last few games he was really good save a few terrible giveaways. Last night, Bert was absolutely flying, dominating a shift or two. I agree with Rivalred: once they start going in, the lines will really be clicking. Great to see the team as a whole playing well, Osgood especially. Anyways, keep it up Bert. Go Wings.

That depends on the league's definition of 'Automatic'

Exactly. They said it wasn't in the spirit of the rule, which was message sending at the end of games, but message sending and frustration was exactly what it was. The rule is a joke and a great example of the league which has become a joke. The rule says "automatic" for instigation of a fight. If it was just a fight, there wouldn't have been an instigation penalty and therefore, no AUTOMATIC suspension. The league exposed itself for favoring certain players, because the situation was no different than any other that warrants and actually receives the automatic suspension. All rules should either be enforced to the word of the law or be abolished, in all sports, because when they become this subjective, its the league playing favorites and essentially favoring an outcome.

That depends on the league's definition of 'Automatic'

The rules are flawed to purposely allow the league to play heavy favorites and by making it subjective, especially by the so-called "criteria" they look at, it puts the outcome of games into the leagues hands, making conspiracy theories about to the leagues intentions unavoidable. When other players commit the offense and the emphasis is put on how "automatic" it is and then in a case no different other than the name and team of the player involved, the emphasis is put on its supposed review process, I honestly can't see how anyone can look at the rule and think the league is in the right. Its either automatic or its not. In this case, its automatic until the league decides its not.

    Sorry, Another Crosby Complaint

Did anyone say it was? I mean, personally, I don't like the guy. Thats my personal opinion. But I know its not his idea to make him the center of the hockey universe. Just another on the looooong list of flaws of the NHL/Bettman, but still another reason people hate Crosby.

    Sorry, Another Crosby Complaint

Great play by Sid. But Zetterberg has done this, Lidstrom has done this countless times. But Sid does it and there are like documentaries on it, like he just revolutionized the forward position, now centers will be taught the butterfly. Sid hate? More like Sid overdose....

11/3 GDT: Bruins 0 at Red Wings 2

Great two games for Osgood's confidence. Looks like the team can play good defensively for 3 periods. But the game was all Ozzy.
