Everyone just needs to calm down about signing Hossa. No one wants Hossa to have a career in Detroit like I do, I think he is good for the team and I think he deserves to finally settle someplace long-term with a winning team. That said, the plan was always to sign Franzen and Hossa, one of them signing before playoffs is A GOOD THING. And Hossa waiting til after playoffs to finish negotiations maybe be for the best too. Hossa and the Red Wings both know his worth. They both know on an open market the guy is going to rake in dollars and term. Hossa wants to settle down someplace. Hossa realizes the Wings can only give him so much, its whether or not its worthwhile to him to take it. And nothing builds a team like a long playoff run, which is hopefully what we get out of this spring. Bottom line: If Franzen signs we are half done and avoid making any rash decisions on Hossa. And if in the end Hossa is forced to take a better deal elsewhere, I wish him the best of luck, the guy deserves to settle down somewhere. Either way, the Wings will still be a great team, sans Hossa presents cap space.

While I would usually agree with you, this is a lot different than someone with a drug charge or robbery. This was attempted murder. I wouldn't root for OJ, even if he never finished the job.

Its not if we should abandon the race for the President's trophy, its that we basically already have. SJ has a game in hand and is already two points up. The Wings look extremely lackadaisical out there, seem to dick around all game until they are behind late and its like 'did we have a game today?' They have already said they don't care about finishing first, just finishing good. Right now they are far from either.

I love Mickey Redmond, just such an everyman happy guy. Always speaking his mind, never polished yet always polite. Always giving shout outs for people to get through illness, etc. and giving shout outs to us Yoopers now and then. First Class all the way Mick!

Presidents Trophy is decided by points, then if there is a tie, they take the team with the most wins. Two years ago the Wings were tied with the Sabres for most points in the league, but the Wings didn't get the Presidents Trophy because the Sabres had more wins and the Wings had more OT losses.

Thank god for that couple minutes in the second. Tied for first with games even, can't ask for more than that.

I'm far from a party pooper and I can handle my own with the creature, but isn't giving away hockey tickets if you buy a half-gallon of vodka and then saying 'drink responsibly' akin to saying free cigarettes for life but 'don't go dying on us' Every Coyotes game: "hey, free hockey tickets" Coyotes-Wings game: "awesome! cheap tickets and a free jug of vodka!"

I think if given a whole season in the NHL, Leino has more then enough POTENTIAL to be better than Franzen or Hudler. I think if we manage to convince him to stick around for a cheap 3 year deal, Wings will be able to survive the tight times ahead. Imagine if Leino was in the lineup consistently enough to get comfortable, good s***!

Versus, some on NBC (Rangers, Pens, those teams mostly). For the first round FSN should cover it too.

No real news here. Expect Hudler, Samuelsson, and Filppula to be playing elsewhere next season. Its a shame, but you can't just let talent of Hossa's caliber go. Hopefully our depth in the minors is all its cracked up to be, hard to replace the points lost tho. Tough decisions ahead.

To anyone in the know, its common knowledge that Robert Lang is to blame in all affairs negative to the game of hockey, especially issues dealing with expansion, salary caps, and NHL awards.

I've been wanting someone in the media to mention this for sometime. When debating the best team in the league, funny how its either been San Jose or Boston all year. Detroit hasn't been as great as last season, I think we can all agree there, and yet, here they sit on the top of the league and are just rounding into form. What does it say when you're in a fight, the other guy is still winning and you say 'but you're not using both fists'?

He isn't the best defenseman on his team, therefore can't be the best in the league. Same reason Rafalski can score so high statistically and rarely even merit an ASG invite.
