    11/29 GDT: Bruins 4, Red Wings 1

Embarrassing defense so far this season, and no apparent reason for it. We returned with everyone from a dominant defense, but they are all playing like they couldn't give a damn. And the goaltending hasn't been there when the Wings need it, I think I've seen more saves from Ozzy/Conks that should have been definite goals, then saves that should be gimmes. The gimmes seem to be going in one way or another and our defense that was once stellar at making the smart play and clearing the puck from danger areas is now giving up terrible turn overs in the most damning parts of the ice. But half of it also if just terrible puck luck, bounces just haven't been going the Wings way this season, that combined with less than inspiring play is getting old at the quarter mark of the season

Helm up, McCarty tp GR (+ line combos vs Habs)

As much as I appreciate Mac's fisticuffs lately, this is a great move. This is replacing a guy you will play for 4 minutes with a guy that has the potential to add a lot of speed and maybe break out that 3rd line if he is put with Flip and Huds. Love this move.

    11/24 GDT: Red Wings 2 @ Canucks 3 (OT)

You can't blame Ozzy for a loss like that even a little. The guy played off his ass but was victimized for some goals you really can't blame him for: Hudler coughing up the puck on the doorstep, sick bouncing deflection, and a 4on3 onetime through a Datsyuk screen. The guy hasn't been perfect yet this season, but I'm starting to think he is cursed. Now to say that Osgood has never stolen a game for the Wings ever is ridiculous, more of the same BS and "goalie" controversy this forum tends to drum up every year. I personally think you ride the hot hand anyways, and give Ozzy a chance for a his luck to turn around for later in the season. But people on this forum have such ridiculously short memories that I'm pretty sure half of them just pick up the stats afterwards and don't actually watch the damn thing. Last night is a example of the Wings collectively blowing a game with turnovers, screens, and OT penalties, a trend that has happened all season. Your goaltender shouldn't have to "steal" these games, and I'm pretty sure there is confusion on what it means to steal a game. You can't chalk every close game up to subpar goaltending and say he should have had it. Some people on LGW have such kneejerk reactions to SCORES and STATS, and use words like NEVER and ALWAYS when offering up their opinions of who sucks that minute. Only a Sith deals in absolutes Ozzy will be fine, just needs to work through the rough spells, he'll be the guy at the end of the season so right now I think its fine to let Ozzy work through it and give Conks 50/50 starts.

Agree. This one is not on Ozzy. Can't blame him for a single one of the ones that went in and really there should have been more against if you take away a few of his ridiculuous saves. Like someone else has said, guys starting to look cursed, gotta feel for him after this one. Huds coughing up another horrible turnover which seems to happen to Ozzy a lot more than Conks this season, bouncing deflection no chance on the tying goal and a 4 on 3 ripper with a Datsyuk screen of all things to lose the game. Anyone who tries to pin this one on Ozzy didn't watch the same game I did.

    HNIC w/ Crawford Wings/Flames

I was thinking the same thing, surprised Crawford wasn't choking everytime he said Bertuzzi.

Trade:Steen and Colaiacovo for Lee Stempniak

I was surprised to see Colaiacovo go, he's played great and been a stand-up guy from what I've seen, although the Leafs definitely benefit from the trade.

    11/22 GDT: Red Wings 5 @ Flames 2

honestly, I couldn't care less who is looking for a fight and who is simply adding to the problem. the point is to turn the other cheek and not derail threads with s*** talking. If you two have issue, please take it up in PM, not in a thread.

Calm down, I highly doubt anyone is picking fights. Just chill... Back to the topic at hand: Lucic would murder Lilja and I personally think it was the smart thing to do when he passed up a fight with Laraque not only because of Laraque being a hell of a fighter, but the fact that when it comes to playing the game, you're on the wrong side of the trade off if Lucic (who went on to score a goal) gets 5 with Laraque who lets face it, outside of the fisticuffs ain't much of a hockey player. Just like the other night when Pain Train went with Souray, Wings win the trade off when a defenseman who probably wasn't going to play in the next 5 minutes anyways went off with their number one blue liner.

    HNIC w/ Crawford Wings/Flames

haha i couldn't agree more. while listening to the feed I was thinking, so when is Crawford going to come in and start talking about the Wings like T.Low mentioned. And after a while I was like wait a minute, that nice composed smart color guy this whole time is Mark Crawford!? haha nothing like I remember from his villainous days as the Avs bench-boss.

    Is this the final chance?

This is the last year for the "old" guard. With the premium on capspace and our young players developed to the point of holding them back for too long, you'll see the relatively free-ride so far on sentimental players come to an end. Helm, Ericcson, Leino, Ritola, Larsson, Howard, Abdelkader, etc. will rotate seemlessly into a roster with stars like Pav and Hank who have already worked with the Hudlers and Filppulas of the current roster. The one hiccup I think the Wings are going to suffer in coming years is when Lidstrom finally hangs them up. He can play forever at the elite level, but eventually he'll tire of getting up for the season. I think we aren't going to truely TRUELY appreciate what Lidstrom provides the team until the season after his departure. That all said, the Wings are set for a generation, count on it.

    HNIC w/ Crawford Wings/Flames

good stuff T.Low, I watched the game on the FSN-Detroit HD feed on HockeyStreams.com last night but luckily they have the HNIC feed on the regular archive feed from last night so I'm rewatching the HNIC feed right now, good stuff.

Yeah, what would Lucic be thinking to drop them with Lilja, who customarily gets in two wrestling matches a season when he wouldn't go with the best fighter in the NHL on the road and would rather let them stew while he stays on the ice and scores goals. He would be insane to fight someone with the pugilistic skills of Andreas Lilja

    how about this line?

Its kinda strange, but its like Hudler thrives more with less ice time. Makes no sense whatsoever, but if thats whats successful and he is going to give the 3rd line a boost, what the hell eh. My only problem with this situation is Sammy on the 2nd line, cause to me he is not a 2nd line forward.

#17 of the Boston Bruins - Milan Lucic

Milan Lucic is a beast and is one of my favorite non-Wings already. If by the grace of god the Wings ever picked up Lucic I would be ecstatic, tho I doubt highly the B's will ever let him go.

    Brendan Morrow suffers torn ACL

damn, that's gonna smart.... Morrow is a hell of a player and given their slow start this may not bode well for a playoff spot.

Nicklas Lidstrom Sportsman of the Year 2008

"Lidstrom fits comfortably into an old saw: Two thirds of the earth is covered by water, the other third is covered by Nicklas Lidstrom." haha great stuff. I'm sure Phelps is a lock and NHL being the way it is these days as far as lack of respect from sports media, Lidstrom wouldn't really stand a chance either way, but its great to see the nod. Better him than Sid

First 60-minute game of the season for our boys?

The praise is located in the GDT, as it should be. So far its only one game, lets hope they keep it going.

Red Wings place forward Darren McCarty on waivers

These are my favorite threads. Like others have said, this doesn't mean he is gone. And this doesn't make the Wings ******* either. I like fighting as much as the next guy, but honestly the "sky is falling" mentality taken by some grit fans on this board whenever anyone that drops the gloves name pops up is pretty pathetic. Yes, we all like fights, but its about winning hockey games and if there is a single organization in NHL I had to trust with that task, its the Detroit Red Wings. If you really want to see two fights a game over fielding a team that can dominate, there are plenty other teams in the league and even better, there is a great team in Grand Rapids that could use some attendance. Seriously, calm down everyone.

Guess Who I Met at Last Nights Game?

Awesome story Hank, though now I feel something growing in the back of my mind..... oh! nevermind, its just a jealous fit, carry on!

Every Wings player is minus except the top line and top 4 d-men

there's another indicator for those who think the Wings have been fine because of their current record.

    Why are we worrying?

The record has not been entirely indicative of their play. Wings fans hold the team to a higher standard, fair or not, and their defense has not been up to snuff yet this season. I know myself personally couldn't careless for these 6-5 OT wins, I prefer a crisp defensive game that ends 2-1 Wings. And the Wings are making serious hay on the power play but are pitiful even-strength and their penalty kill has been pretty bad to date. The fact of the matter is that the Red Wings last season, with the same defensive units and roughly the same goaltending situation were 1st in the league in GAA, this season goals against are way up. The only thing that is winning the Wings hockey games is their ridiculously potent power play. This season is reminding me too much of what Babcock says about our 05-06 team, that basically they were so talented compared to the rest of the bunch that they couldn't lose games even when they played bad enough to lose, and that kills you when the games matter in the Spring.
