Holland is not going to move Filppula. What people are forgetting is that Hossa was already good and signed and Holland already knew the salary cap situation when he signed Filppula for 5 years. In the last two games we have seen what we should have seen a while ago: Filppula moved to wing with Zetterberg on the second line, and he has looked great, giving Hank a more creative and all-around more skilled forward in Val. The money is being spent wisely for the time being and our best bet is to move Samuelsson down to the third line as soon as Franzen is ready to go (Tomorrow). The most potent line for a good deal of the playoffs last season was Franzen-Flip-Sammy, and trust me, Sammy was the least of the reason. Hank and Val have been creating nicely and Franzen has chemistry with both, tho I have my doubts Babcock will do it (given his history of Sammy-love), a Franzen-Zetterberg-Filppula line seems to be the better 2nd line option. Next season we will see at least 3 new players in Helm, Abdelkader, and Ericcson, add Leino if he stays (which is a big IF considering his skill and the Wings lack of dough). See Samuelsson, Chelios, Mac, Maltby gone. After that, as others have said, its going to most likely come down to Franzen+Hudler+capspace vs. Hossa. Tough decisions, but if there is anyone in the league that could make 2+2=5 and produce another cup-contender its Ken Holland...

That hit is ridiculous. For once, the media is on to something on this cheap shotting BS. So far this season its been pretty bad, especially with reckless hits to the head and hits from behind. And I thought last season started bad with Downie and Simon.

I was thinking tonite that our 3rd line needs to pick it up a lot, Cleary especially. But thats the extent of it. This is silly.

He seems to be getting back into form and its really the only way he can keep a spot. If he keeps it up, which I hope he does cause it really gave them a boost tonite, I may be eating some delicious crow.

They are really the one team that scares the s*** out of me. They have had the tools for years, but they are ELITE this season with McLellan behind the bench. Hopefully tonite is the first game of the season for the Red Wings playing at their dominant potential, I'm sick of 3+ goals against a game, we're much better than that. Hopefully Babs has had them practicing hard and watching a lot of game film to get them pissed off.

I'm with you, I've been waiting for over two years for him to come back to the Joe, hopefully he manages a trip before he hangs them up.

Not really related, just didn't think it was worth starting another thread: The refereeing to get teams back into the game trend has been prevalent this season, and its resulting in some ridiculusly high scoring contests due mostly to a lot of PP and 5 on 3 time. Flames-Preds game is a glaring example among many. The Flames lead 5-0 and got back to back questionable 5 on 3 and scored and what i thought was a kind of wimpy penalty shot, though it could be argued, Preds came back and the game ended 6-7 Flames http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/clip110164#clip110164

I never understood the whole out of shape thing. Unless the guy is slacking on the ice, does his body fat percentage matter? The guy obviously has some great hands, was it an issue like "he can't complete a shift hustling without collapsing" or what exactly was the problem?

Agree. I think we are all off focus, with a Crosby sucks vs. Crosby is god separation. To me what Semin was saying is dead on, and what he was saying is this: Crosby, beyond his youth, is just another GREAT player, but you've decided to put him on a pedestal and ignore a league full of similar superstars that have other talents besides simply getting points and being young. Does Crosby deserve press? Yes. Does he deserve 90% of the press? Hell no. Crosby goes anywhere, does anything, someone is there with a camera. Ovechkin who is equally good, more of a goal scorer, more physical, and in many people's opinion a much more exciting player, we hear about in the 10 minutes before and after he wins the Calder or Hart. The point is that Crosby isn't Gretzky, he is not heads and shoulders above the rest, he is near the top of the pack and he is young, but what happened to the rest of the pack, can we see some of them??

NHL prolly just gives away Crosby sweaters out there.

God, I'm totally going back and watching the archived game on HockeyStreams.com, cause this looked like an incredible game. Players like Steve Ott are going to be finding themselves without a job real soon. The "agitator" role as we previously knew it in the NHL is rapidly becoming simple cheapshoting and this game had way to many low hits, and late. Going for a guys knees like that is the worst, dirtiest play in hockey in my book. Avery is doing exactly what I said he would when he went to Dallas. Everyone thought he was would make Dallas harder to play again, he simply made them dumber. He's better at working the press than the puck, and he is definitely a little to comfortable with the dramatic bulls*** at this point. His mouth is definitely writing checks his ass can't cash. This is the kind of game that galvanizes the hell out of Boston and pussifies Dallas, look for a streak on one side and a slide on the other. Milan Lucic is quickly becoming one of my favorite hockey players. The guy is a beast who hits clean and hard, can drop the gloves, and can score goals. If the Bruins are dumb enough to lose the guy, hopefully the Wings are smart enough to have capspace

In this case its sad because its ignoring a team in the Wings that is stacked with superstars, probably has the most wide-spread fanbase of hardcore fans (you know, the kind that would fork out the $180 to get Center Ice), and sticking with the ol' standby: show the Pens dominating and "Crosby" and "87" about 30 times in as many seconds. From this commercial, tell me who the NHL wanted to win the Stanley Cup last year? Please NHL, next time show a Habs fan in Florida or a Stars fan in Winnipeg or a damn Panthers fan in Alaska for all I care. Just don't be so transparent in mixing your two favorite things, Crosby and California.
