it is down right hilarious how Burke can have such high esteem when anyone that looks at Vancouver and now Anahiem can see the guy gets there when the team is getting great, adds a free-agent, makes a decent push one year, then proceeds to waive unused trade bait, hand away picks, and overpay Bertuzzis and Schnieders of the world. I think they are more than half their roster UFA next season and he'll cut and run just like he did in Vancouver. Personally, I'd like the Blackhawks and Maple Leafs to get back to being contenders, but Burke is going to go f*** it up...

Hopefully they will have a p2p feed via Sopcast! I NEED HOCKEY! Last night I was on NHL.com and they had a link saying LIVE: Edm vs. Van, I clicked assuming it was streaming and it never loaded for me, so I don't know if i missed it or what. Hopefully this game is somewhere.

Training camp questions: Western Conference
b.shanafan14 replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
I believe the Red Wings defense top to bottom is better than Anaheim's but the Ducks are second for sure. As far as Osgood, I think he is going to do great as long as he doesn't play too much and gets burnt out before pkayoffs. If Kronwall remains consistent to what he was doing for us in the playoffs, he will get plenty of Norris votes. In the Cup run last season he showed all the things that the NHL wants to see, crushing hits, solid defense, and offensive touch (15 A). That said, the best he will ever get while Lidstrom is still playing is a Norris Finalist. Good article, hit some good points. -
I can't get into it either. Its probably locked until the preseason starts. Hopefully they give it an upgraded look from last year...

Exactly

HAHAHAHA Burke is the worst GM alive! Gives away Mathieu Schneider for NOTHING! haha this is just as bad as throwing about Bryzgalov for nothing. I think someone was right before, must be less work for Burke to just give him away. God forbid he uses his mouth for negotiations.

^ THIS ^ (sorry, it was buried on page 2, so it got skipped over )

Great stuff, I can't wait til Ericsson is a permanent blueliner for the Wings next season, I was hoping he would be up this coming year, but doubtful with the logjam in the D. Babs can't get enough of him either "we have this guy Ericsson and I can't believe we don't dress him"

Interesting stuff...

Actually, if you want to split hairs, Hossa had 26 points, Zetterberg had 27 I believe
-
Like I said before, Hossa is a greater talent than Franzen right now, but as others are saying Hossa and Franzen "bang-for-your-buck" in the salary cap world are different. Hossa signed for what in the free market is considered a "discount", making him tied for the highest paid player on the Wings, and thats after doing mediocre in Atlanta before going to Pitt and getting back into the groove. The cap has gone up roughly $6 mil a season since the lockout. Assuming that doesn't slow, which it very well may, the means we will have roughly $21mil to sign Zetterberg, Hossa, Franzen, Hudler, Samuelsson, Kopecky, possibly Chelios, possibly another goaltender, possibly Leino. Minus the guaranteed raise of Zetterberg to around $7.45mil if we're lucky, and Hossa staying the same, again if we're lucky, than we have roughly $6mil to resign Franzen, Hudler, Samuelsson and more, all looking for a raise above their current $1.2 mil, and thats not counting the other question marks. We can't cut up our team for a single player who made our already championship calibur team better. Whether that makes me an "idiot" or a "homer" is free for interpretation I guess...

My immediate reaction is keep Franzen. Hossa is the better player of the two at the moment, but he'll have to buy into the Red Wings program if he wants to stay. I do think Franzen is nice mix of Hank and Homer, which is refreshing and if his goal scoring and overall skill (Game 3 of the Finals goal) wasn't a rare fluky couple months where he became some hockey savant, I would love him to be a career Wing. I think Holland has already expressed wanting to sign Hank and Mule first because of the "home grown" factor. But then again, I am biased as of now because Mule helped us molest the Avs/win the cup, I'm sure in a month my "OMG HOSSA" syndrome will be in critical stages and I'll be screaming for him to sign as top priority, but until that happens, Hank, MULE, Hossa.

Quincey willing to fight for spot with Red Wings
b.shanafan14 replied to Shutemdown's topic in General
Great read, Quincey sounds like he is another great character and I thought he did great in the '07 playoffs. -
< 1 month until hockey season = let's get fired up

Love that clip, love Datsyuk throwing a few, glad I didn't need to see Cherry's anti-Euro, pro-Roberts ass talking s*** about Pav afterwards either. Best part tho, Malkin jumps into the scrum onto the Mules back, Mule bucks him then proceeds to spin around and start laying into him. On a sidenote, watch the Stanley Cup Champs 08 DVD, one of the games, can't remember which, Dallas Drake gets called for a charge or something behind the net and afterwards is skating away and you see Malkin go to skate after him and two of his teammates intercept him and push him against the boards knowing Drake would murder him. -
Yeah, it was terrible all playoffs, especially in the Finals. I love when a team gets all the ridiculous phantom powerplays and yet they do all the bitching. If we really want to get into it, what about when Datsyuk got called for interference just for checking Staal which lead to their first goal by Malkin on the powerplay, or with 15 seconds or so left when Datsyuk was bolting down the left side toward an empty net and was blantantly tripped in the neutral zone? Either way, we won, the refs were horrible, the Penguins were whiners, the Stanley Cup is where it belongs.

Hossa skates with the team, feels right at home...
b.shanafan14 replied to Shutemdown's topic in General
In a perfect world, with no moron GMs throwing enormous amounts of money and term at players whose skillset is rare, thats exactly how it would work. I'd love for Hank to sign a mirror to Pav's contract, but that was two years ago by the time we get it worked out with Z and if Pav went unrestricted in todays crazy money pit, he would get Ovechkin money and term. We all want to say: Lidstrom is the best, no one makes more, None of our forwards are better than Datsyuk, money relative to his paycheck by skill. But sadly, it just doesn't work like that anymore... -

WHAT???!!! That doesn't make any sense, especailly when you look at the fact we have him for 4 more seasons at what is already a bargain price for an elite puck-moving defenseman. Kenny will get it done, in Kenny we trust... yikes... -
I knew that was fishy, but was too lazy to look up the numbers. thanks.

Must.... watch... hockey... soon........

Glad someone posted, I read this and "WTF" is definitely the reaction. At first I was surprised he wasn't number two behind Thorton, but then he wasn't even on the list. Could it be lack of faceoffs taken, due to being on the 3rd/4th line?

... so much for the brand new pants i was wearing I'M SO EXCITED FOR THE SEASON TO START! OMG HOSSA!

If everyone worse than Gretzky sucks, everyone sucks.
