Not sure as to why Jurco's been sent down to the 4th line, especially when I read a quote yesterday I think it was from babs who said he's been extremely happy with the Kid line offensively and defensively. Maybe just time for a shake up which is always good. Hoping for 2 points tonight!

This is definitely awesome news to wake up to! That said we can't afford to take our foot off the gas tonight. 3 points to go!

Lightning sign GM Yzerman to contract extension
wings4thecup06 replied to DatsyukianDekes's topic in General
I'm sorry but how can you sit here and complain about what Legwand has brought to this team over the last month, when considering, we're now sitting firmly in a wild card spot, on the cusp of hopefully making the postseason, the fact that he's a minus is irrelevant, as we all know +/- is flawed, and stats are not and never will be truly indicative of defensive ability, nor intangibles and veteran knowhow from someone who's played nearly 1000 games now and been a very productive 2 way forward. As for Jarnkrok, anyone would have thought we'd given up the world to get Legwand judging by the response on here. If we miss the playoffs, then maybe the 'Holland made a bad deal' argument has some leverage. You and everyone else are entitled to there opinions, but really do we have to keep bringing this up in every thread? The trade happened, Jarnkrok's not coming back, so let's move on and get behind the team that we have so they can make it into the playoffs. -
Signed Glendening signed to 3 year extension
wings4thecup06 replied to Nyquistfan14's topic in General
If Callahan brought more to the table than Glendening, I'm sure it'd be Cally who'd be up in Detroit right now instead of Luke. He came up, grabbed a spot and didn't let go. He'll be in the lineup next season for sure. -
Flyers' Rinaldo to have hearing for hit on Ruhwedel.
wings4thecup06 replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
yup. probably 5 games, if not more. So many factors going against Rinaldo on that one. Leaned into it. Elbow to the head. Avoidable hit. -
I agree. Developing prospects is so hard, and there are so many factors in play as to whether I guy will pan out or be a bust. Generally, I think the Wings have done an excellent job, and that has allowed them to 're-build on the fly' so to speak because when they do call a kid up, by and large, after a few games they're good to go. If it were down to me, I'd keep all of Sheahan, Jurco and Glendening on the roster next year. There really isn't any good reason to send them down. Whatever happens the rest of the way this season, it's going to be an interesting off season.

No they can only max out at 90 now, as they've got 3 games left and that's it. It's between the Devils and Capitals, as the Leafs are done IMO. Here's the remaining schedules: NJ: Mon vs Calgary Thursday @ Ottawa Friday vs NYI Saturday vs Boston Only good thing I see here is they've got the Bruins last which is a tough game. It's a longshot but the flames have been playing well of late. 1 loss in regulation from these 4 and the Devils can only max out at 90 WSH: Tuesday @ St Louis Thursday @ Carolina Friday vs Chicago Sunday vs Tampa Washington have got the toughest schedule here, and I think it's going to be hard for them to beat the Blues, let alone the Hawks. We'll see though. Right now they can max out at 91, and obviously with any loss they can only get 89. Lets take care of our business still and we'll be fine.
-
Let's not forget how well this team has done. Two out of three this week, 4 wins in a row. All we need is 4 points IMO, but those 4 are huge. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here as it's literally one day at a time. Starts tuesday vs Buffalo, then we'll re-evaluate and see. We damn well better make it in though.

GDT 4/5 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs Red Wings 3
wings4thecup06 replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
I watched the first period of that game last night. It was absolutely nuts. The sense came out charging and put 3 really quick goals on the board, only for the Habs to comeback with 3 straight. -
Technically, if we win vs the Habs (giving us 90pts) and then NJ, Toronto and Washington all lose tomorrow we are in. I say technically, because NJ can only max out at 90 (but we'll be tied with ROW), same with TO (We've got the tiebreaker) and Washington can only get 89. Then we'd need just 1 point from 4 games. Anyway, it wasn't too comforting to see the wings let up in the latter stages of this one, but hopefully they'll be better rested for tonight! There's hockey all day today!!

I don't know where you can pin the Caps lack of success, but they sure as hell are a mess. I was really happy when Ovechkin started scoring loads again, as there's no greater sight than watching a true sniper bury the biscuit on a night to night basis. That said, I'm slowly losing my respect for AO, and this is another example. Personally, I believe you put in what you get out, and with Ovechkin, his lack of effort of D is really hurting. NOt only that, but his captaincy has appeared to be 'token' more than anything. He was clearly the only one who quit on that play, to then call out the rest of his team to cover his own rear end is a joke. This team is in a fight for their playoff lives, and the captain can't even take one for the team?

Two Tickets For Tonights Game Available

Same if i wasn't 3,500 miles and an ocean…. -
I'm kind of glad Weiss won't be back really this season. it's been a washout. Let it slide, get healthy over the summer and start over in September. In the short term it also relieves a logistical log jam that would have occurred once Z comes back. But that is awesome news that he's going to skate next week!!!

So. Ansar Khan with this quip from Holland today (sorry I don't know how to embed tweets): 'Holland said Stephen Weiss not expected to play this season after experiencing multiple setbacks in comeback from hernia surgery.'

Riley Sheahan - Underappreciated and Overshadowed?
wings4thecup06 replied to Prashanth Iyer's topic in General
Definitely. Underappreciated hands, and a terrific shot. Seriously, some of the goals he's set up recently have been nuts. -
This kind of play is something the league really has to get rid of IMO. Iginla should get a game misconduct for that. Seriously. Accept the fact that you got smoked, and do what they did in the old days. Take note of the guys number and get him the next time. For the record, I have no problem with fighting and believe its a integral part of the game, but this is just getting ridiculous.
-
I would probably have to say the Jets at the moment. But I wouldn't classify them or anyone else as a 'second favourite team'. I'm Wings all the way.
-
Yea I agree. It's better for Pav to come back in a game that potentially will be slightly easier. Although we shouldn't underestimate the Sabres, it'll be better for him to get another practice in there.
-
According to Khan his knee is good, but now it's just a matter of conditioning. I'd say with another practice on thursday he'd be good to go friday.

Breakdown of NHL Injuries by Country of Origin
wings4thecup06 replied to The Secret's topic in General
Is Don Cherry paying you to ask this question?? Seriously though, if you go here: http://www.mangameslost.com/nhl-man-games-lost-chip-tmitt-april-1-2014/ You could calculate this based on the rankings, but it would be pretty tedious, there's 864 players that have been 'injured' this season and missed time because of it. Leading the way are: 75 Sheldon Souray #44 (Canada) 75 Mattias Ohlund (Sweden) 75 Marc Savard (Canada) 75 Brian Lee (USA) 75 Chris Pronger (Canada) 74 Marc-Andre Bourdon (Canada) 74 Raffi Torres (Canada) 69 Jack Hillen (USA) 62 Davis Drewiske (USA) 62 Now these are the first 10 names, and I see only one swede there….. -
Weiss - who would take him next season and does he have a full NTC
wings4thecup06 replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
That buyout applies to contracts from before the lockout. Weiss was signed last summer. -
They've got Boston next…..

I concur also. I think we've not just got really solid depth up front, but a perfect balance of scoring and grinding. The kids plus Helm and Abby provide tons of speed and energy, the sandpaper if you like, while we've got enough solid veterans to guide them through. The only real question for me is in net. If Jimmy steps up and plays like we know he can, then I think we've got a pretty good shot with most of them. Tonight will be a good look at that and how prepared we could be. I love how these lines look, although you've forgotten Miller, who I think would be first replacement in this scenario over Andersson IMO. 3 of those lines have the ability to score and all 4 would be pretty responsible defensively. The depth allows us to play Pav and Z together, which could be huge. Another little thing I notice here is the number of guys who can take face-offs, which could be important when guys get thrown out. Although the refs have been cutting down on that a bit.

and in one fell swoop, that linesman won't be officiating any playoff games anytime soon. (In all seriousness, does anyone know who that linesman is? Want to see if he actually DOES officiate in the playoffs)
-
For some reason I'm not as nervous about this game as I could be, probably because we played really well over the weekend and beat Tampa in particular. That said, this is going to be tough as hell, and if we get Datsyuk back, then awesome. GO WINGS!
