When considering the final forward spots....
DatsyukownzU13 replied to hckypete96's topic in General
Yes Modano had the GWG but Morrow made the game 3-1 with 5 minutes left basically solidifying the game. Here's an exerpt: "Morrow scored an insurance marker with 5:26 left following another Detroit turnover as Mikael Samuelsson failed to clear the defensive zone." -
That's kinda what I was thinking.

Well, in recent memory... Sammy turned the puck over in our zone, which led to Morrow's goal that won Game 4 of the WCF. I could think of plenty more, but I dont feel like wasting too much time thinking about Sammy. -

Do you watch hockey? This post just lost all credibility. Samuelsson turns the puck over more often than not when he has possession. -
Could I still get tickets if I wanted to get some?

The Samuelsson talk is nauseating. This guy consistently is pushed around the ice (despite his 6' 2" frame), as well as consitently loosing the puck on a majority of his possessions. He has a terribly inconsistent shot that is highly overused because he rarely ever looks to complete a play with a pass; opting to bury his head in the ice and wrist a shot from 60 feet to the goaltenders chest. I could go on forever, but the fact of the matter is that 1.2 million is not a good deal for Samuelsson. I would much rather have a player who is aware of his teammates on the ice and doesn't mimic Maltby with all the talk on the ice and no action (and Matlby can at least hit...). I don't know much about Leino, but from the sounds of it he has potential. We should give him a shot to break an NHL roster, rather than settling for a 37 year old walking relic of a ******. -
Leino draws praise at 2nd day of Camp

Would love to see the Wings package Lilja and Sammy out for draft picks or prospects and go with this lineup (assuming Leino is as good as RedWingsCentral is making him out to be): Holmstrom - Datsyuk - Hossa Hudler - Zetterberg - Franzen Cleary - Filppula - Leino (Finnish connection haha) Matby - Draper - Kopecky Lidstrom - Rafalski Stuart - Kronwall Lebda - Quincey Chelios Osgood Conklin -
First Intrasquad game action - Goal Scorers were Darren McCarty (from Abdelkader and Jozsa) and Marian Hossa (from Datsyuk and Holmstrom). Larsson was 12 for 12 in net, Howard 4 for 4. For Sawchuck, Conklin was 12 for 12 and Larry Sterling was 11 for 13. Montreal defeats Toronto on Saturday.

Dick Axelsson had two goals leading Abel to the Win. Ericsson and Cameron also scored for Abel. Cleary, Sammy and Draper were the goal scorers for Sawchuck. Conklin 6 saves on 8 shots, Sterling 11 saves on 13 for Sawchuck. Osgood 7 for 8, McCollum 10 saves on 12 shots. If I was a betting man I would say Kopecky (because of the Hossa ordeal and his spot prior to the injury), but if I had my wish it would be Helm with Dmac/Downs rotating in depending on the matchup. Don't know enough about Leino yet, and I highly doubt he steals a spot from one of the aforementioned players.

For the record, the mystery goalie from the other thread is Larry Sterling. You can catch a shot of him in that photo gallery.
-
For the sake of trying to be impartial... here: (I still think Datsyuk has shown a little more physicality though)
-
Malone begs to differ. Edit: Not to mention all of his suprise hits when he has the puck.
-
It's nice and all, but it's pretty off to be honest. I just don't see how Z can be considered all-around better than Crosby, Ovechkin or even Datsyuk for that matter.
-
I am going to go ahead and doubt this claim here.
-
That's pretty much dead-on what I was thinking when I saw that pairing. I would love to see Leino outplay some of the higher paid forwards (i.e. Sammy). If we could dump Lilja and Sammy and replace them with younger, cheaper, better players I would be feeling amazing about this team.

If Chicago wants to ruin their current ending of a rebuilding stage then Burke would be a good idea.

Hossa rockin' that popped pink polo ahhahaha.

Started at 2 p.m., I'm a little late. You just have to keep refreshing the page unless I'm doing something wrong. He's actually surprisingly competent with hockey for being someone associated with ESPN. If you are looking at this past 3 p.m. (when it ends), I'm pretty sure the transcript of convo will be there. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=22612

Update: For those that don't want to read through the whole transcript, here are the questions that regarded the Red Wings: With the signing of Marian Hossa in the offseason, the Detroit Red Wings stacked their star filled lineup even more. Do you believe that there are any glaring weaknesses anywhere in their lineup? Pierre LeBrun: No. I really don't ., I think on paper, this is the most complete team. I think if there are any struggles with this team, it will be from within. The Cup hangover has been significant since the lockout. But I know from speaking with Mike Babcock this week, he'll get on that right from the start of their camp that their offseason was only 7 days shorter. But the Wings are definitely poised for a back to back. Pierre, who do you see playing in the Cup Final this year? Pierre LeBrun: I'm still debating among four or five teams before I put in my picks. But I'm being put on the spot, am I? I'm going to go with, how about Montreal-San Jose. Pierre LeBrun: Even though I know the Wings are the team to beat. What do you think the Blackhawks chances are of making the playoffs this year? Assuming they make the playoffs how far will they go? Pierre LeBrun: I think they're very good. I'd be surprised if they didn't. Campbell was a huge offseason acquisition. They always say once you get in, anything can happen. But I think the Detroits, San Joses, Dallas, Anaheims of the world are still the top tier, but them getting to the playoffs would be a lot of fun. Pierre, What numbers do you expect out of Chris Osgood this season? Pierre LeBrun: I don't think that Detroit signed Ty Conklin to be a spectator. I think they signed him to give Osgood the odd break. I think Conklin will probably get in there to spell Osgood enough that you won't see him play more than 60 games.

How can you not love Downey. Even if you know he's not going to contribute offensively, which he probably won't, Downey has the best attitude a hockey player can have. If he could just learn to skate I would love him even more.

That's what I was going to ask... those are some sick pads and a sweet helmet. I was hoping that was Conklin, maybe it's Larsson? I already saw pictures of him though from the games and he had white pads. Hmm... mystery.
