I just saw this video up on youtube. It's pretty cool and nice to know that he's got a fight in him if we ever have a '96-esque brawl with anyone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbxUayigeh0...feature=related

Personally, I think your logic is a bit flawed. Osgood has put teams in a position to win games, but he rarely (if ever) steals games. That is something that Luongo does on a consistent basis (granted it's in the regular season). The thing is, how did Osgood do when he played for a mediocre St. Louis team or New York Islanders? He barely reached a .910 (other years posting a .888 and .894) save percentage which was his best of the 4 years he played for those two teams. Also, in the seasons his team made the playoffs he lost in the first round each time putting up some less than stellar numbers. I'm not saying Osgood isn't a solid goalie that works well in the Wing's system, but I would never hold back on a trade that included Osgood for Luongo (realistically, I don't know anyone that would). Luongo hasn't really been given a fair chance in the playoffs to prove himself. Osgood certainly had his lows early in his playoff career (i.e. San Jose, LA). Luongo did have some clutch performances in the World Championships also. I know he started a semi-final game against the Czechs in 2003 or 4 and had something near 40 saves for the win. Also how can you claim that Conklin or Howard will be good and reliable backups/prospects (neither of which have put up consistent numbers in the Pros) while claiming that Luongo is unproven...

I doubt they'll totally dismantle previous lineups. Maybe something like this.. Satan - Crosby - Dupuis Fedotenko - Malkin - Sykora Kennedy - Staal - Talbot TBA - TBA - Godard That way you keep the chemistry between Crosby/Dupuis and Malkin/Sykora going while filling in with slightly worse players at each position. Satan and Fedotenko are pretty much just inbred versions of Hossa and Malone haha.

Nice support, well played.

There's no way you could realistically consider Detroit's goaltending number 5. Just based on starting goaltenders alone we can't compete. That's not to mention we have 2 relatively unproven backups. Take Starters. You think Osgood is consistently better than the following: Leclaire, Fleury, Backstrom, Gerber, Vokoun, Kipursoff, Miller, Giguere, Ward, Dipietro, Thomas. I would trade Osgood straight up for any of those goalies (the list doesn't include the goalies on the teams ranked 1-4 for you).

If we were to split up Dats and Z, there could be some nasty line combos (although I don't really think they should based on chemistry). Hossa - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Franzen - Zetterberg - Filpulla That would be a pretty sick top 2 lines.

This looks good, but my primary concern is physicality. With this change we basically have lost spots for our "tough guys". With Drake retiring (assuming), we lose our only big hitter on offense. I wish there was someway to replace that but I guess we don't really have the money for that. Maybe factor Meech, Lebda, or Quincey into a trade to free up some money and space.

You fail on 2 accounts. Not only was he a rent-a-player for Pittsburgh last season and put up big numbers, he also put up those big numbers (12 goals, 14 assists over the span of 20 games) in the playoffs. Not to mention, he had a 15.8 shooting percentage over the course of the playoffs and a higher PPG than both Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

So today completely changed this debate. I'm still saying that Columbus is going to give us headaches especially after adding Commodore. But whoa, Chicago definitely loaded up a bit. They are looking to be some big competition, possibly the biggest in the West. Depending on how all those players mold together, they could be looking at a highly ranked playoff team come march.

I'm with you. Don't fix it if it ain't broke. Filppula and Franzen have stepped up a ton lately and both are rounding out into great 2-way players. Hossa is great and should go for 6-7 million, which isn't worth it to us right now coming off the cup. But hey, if we can somehow get him or Sundin under 5 that would be amazing!

St. James: Sundin, Bertuzzi on radar, Rolston not

I don't know if it's just me, but I don't want to see Bertuzzi back in Detroit. He seemed a little lazy and not motivated, which isn't exactly a motivator for the Stanley Cup champions to win it again... Sundin would be great, but I doubt he'll settle for what we're willing to pay him considering he's already been offered $10 million a year. Hossa?! -
Lilja re-signs w/2-year, est. $2.4M deal

Bouwmeester please? Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Bouwmeester Lilja - Lebda/Chelios/Meech/Quincey That top 4 would be nasty, even though I know it won't happen. -
That video just made me want to get Sundin more than ever.

Supposedly Omsk of the Russian Super League has offered Jagr some big money to leave the Rangers and come play overseas. Yes, that is $35 million U.S. for 3 years after taxes... http://www.nypost.com/seven/06272008/sport...ffer_117409.htm

For this year I'd have to agree with the consensus that Chi-town is going to give us the most headaches as Kane and Toews continue to develop. If they're goaltending can manage to be a bit more steady and Sharp continues to produce some goals they could have a solid playoff-contending team. With that said, in 2-3 years I would not be suprised to see Columbus giving us the most trouble (or at least equal to that of Chicago). With prospects like Filatov, Voracek, Brassard and Mason alongside the continuning improvement of Nash and Zherdev they are going to have an amazing offense with some young blood (Leclaire isn't too shabby either). I'm still not sold on any of St. Louis' youngin's. Boyes will probably continue to be a prolific goalscorer but when you're number one defensemen is Eric Brewer you aren't in the best shape.

I like Ryder. He has a decent amount of offensive upside and brings a bit of grit as well. If we put him with some good forwards he could be a 20-30 goal scorer in the D. Corey Stillman is old, we already have enough older players.
-
Tucker isn't the type of player I want on the Red Wings. For a classy organization we don't need anymore agitators that just make us look bad (we already have Maltby for that). There has to be some better option...

Get Sundin, Naslund, Ericcson and Larson on the team and before you know it the Red Wings own the Swedish national team.

I was almost flattered.... but then I realized that was you, Jake.
