Ovechkin had no time to back off the hit. Gleason jumped as he was making contact. Again, Ovechkin never "still tried to make contact" He was set in his position the entire time. Never moved once. Seems you just saying generic phrases about a knee on knee collision. Did you even see it? Or watch replays of it?
-
So you're just going to say it. Not back it up? It's that simple? Please do share all the things the league has allowed him to get away with.
-
It was incidental contact. After Ovechkin took his last stride he didn't change the position of his leg, it was already out there. Gleason tried to jump out of the way and jumped into Ovechkin's knee. Smart for either player? No. This is entirely different then Laraque's. You can see Laraque raise his leg and stick it out to get Kronwall. That's my opinion and I argued the same thing when it happened to Gonchar last year in the playoffs. His body position never changed. Maybe the two games is for the league saying don't lead into checks like that. I don't know. I love everyone calling for blood because he's a superstar and they finally want something done to a superstar. I'd rather have the league wait to suspend a superstar when they actually do something wrong. That check a couple games back when he got tossed, he hit the guy in the shoulder. The visor caused blood and made it look worse. Most people are calling for his head. I'll go the other route.

Does anyone remember how importanrt, even from a 3rd, 4th line, Draper has been to the Wings for the past 15 years??? I think it's fantastic that we have a Draper-style player ready to take his place. Not every player the Wings bring up needs to be a high scorer. a great role playing core is what finalized those 4 cups(maybe not 2002)

That makes sense after the fact. No way they can credit May with a shot because the puck went right in off the shot. That would be openly admitting the ref decided to blow the play dead after May shot it before it crossed the line since it went right in. More proof how terrible the call was and even more terrible the cover up. Abdelkader shot at 13:40. LaRue was standing in the corner. The puck was with May and Daley covering him, they both were reacting to the puck. LaRue was watching those two, May backhanded a shot. Ken Daniels called the play. As soon as the shot was on net the LaRue skated to the net and blew the whistle. Clock stopped at 13:36. FOUR seconds after Abdelkader shot the puck. LaRue reacted to May's shot by skating towards the net. He did not react to Abdelkader's shot at all. Is the league really saying four seconds after a shot was taken the ref decided to finally blow the whistle to a play he already had the intent to stop four seconds earlier? I love this league.

Two many men was a missed call plain and simple, a little worse because, all 4 officials can make that call. The Cleary penalty was easily real, he had his off hand wrapped around the guy just holding on. The Ericsson penalty was also legit. the only thing is since the anaheim series they had let that go both ways. Whoever he hit had not played the puck and was just pursuing it. regular season that was a penalty. unless both dman and forward where going for the puck. I noticed in the Anaheim series as long as the dman was pursuing the forward who was pursuing the puck he could hit him. Confused? yeah Campbell does that to me too. But that is what Ericsson did. frustrating because they decided to call it this time, but it is a penalty. The Franzen penalty should/will? get called everytime, you have to have control/are responsible of your stick I guess, the main complaint would have to be the missed calls. But like I've said before, there is no conspiracy(hopefully) but the league will try to help the team that is down, extend the series so they can make more money. IF they get the chance and at 2-2 with 10 minutes left the refs had a chance. THAT should be the focus. The Wings dominated the 2nd, not scoring there is why they lost.
-
Like it's been said...Not another excuse why the Penguins will lose Game 3...Game 1 was lucky bounces, Game 2 was the Wings got away with penalties, Game 3...let's just have them win. I don't care either way about Malkin, it's not about getting him off the ice, the Wings have shown they are ok with his point a night. My main problem comes with the way the league tries to spin things; like we'll eat up anything, like we're idiots. When we are knowledgeable hockey fans that can see exactly what's going on. Main problem I have with this is they are saying it is not the same thing because Malkin was out there to score a goal, not send a message. But it wasn't Zetts and Malkin in the scrum at first, it's not like they were shoving eachother and then started fighting. Malkin came from around the net to get at Zetterberg and started swinging away on him to send a message for the next game...the exact reason the rule was made. If that was a tough guy - suspension stands, but since Malkin can also score goals??? Typical NHL behavior that makes them look like the joke they are. but it doesn't matter. Wings are still winning the Cup. What did they think would happen? Why did they think it would turn out any different!?!? GO WINGS!!!

DET/CHI 4-2 PIT/CAR 4-3

Of the last eight series the Wings have won, all have been on the road! Not since they won the Cup in 5 games in 02 have they closed out a series at home. Tomorrow will be no different. BOOM!

tsk, tsk. Guess you didn't feel the need to listen to my piece of advice in my first post. I was only doing it to help you. I said stay away from using video in your argument, it just proves that Ovechkin never changed his knee position. But go for it. You did and you discredited yourself. Thanks.
-
You've really got to be joking...your entire argument now centers on the fact that you are saying Ovie intentionally tried to injure Gonchar. Whether he really did or not, we will never know. It really makes the rest of your argument worthless. However, the rest of your argument is so funny it's worth a second look. I can't even imagine the thought process it took to reach this conclusion. Players have been hurt worse with less of a collision and players have been hurt less with a worse collision. The injury will NEVER tell the full extent of the impact, it's not an exact cause and effect. Again, based solely off your belief it was intentional. Erroneous. Haha, replay of the hit on vs. right now. Shows Ovechkin never changes direction. Boom. Gonchar will be the same skater after this incident. Wait...ignoramus is a good thing right? No truer words have ever been spoken. You've totally changed my perspective by simply stating your beliefs with no facts and complimenting me on being an ignoramus...still a good thing right?

Ovechkin never changed his path, he already had a wide stance. Gonchar was the one who changed his path, tried to jump out of the way. Ovechkin was about to destroy him with a legal check, had him lined up perfectly into the shoulder. Sportscenter froze it right before the hit when Gonchar was slightly leaning forward to tap the puck. I thought to myself, "lights out." But as soon as Gonchar touched the puck he tried to jump out of the way and got knee on knee. Kinda funny to think about the knee on knee call and I think the deciding factor is how a player moves his knees to make contact (bob mckenzie has a great article on it on tsn.ca). The humor comes from the fact that between the two players Gonchar was the one that changed his path, so really he did more against the rules then Ovechkin. All you people can shut it. Starting your comments with, "I hate Ovechkin, so he did it." Whose gonna take you seriously? Start with some facts about how Ovechkin moved into Gonchar once Gonchar tried to move out of the way. I'll give you a tip and don't say anything about watching the video, cause that will just discredit you. But who am I to let facts get in the way of a good arguement.

I met Niklas Kronwall and Johan Franzen at the Post in Novi. Franzen was absolutely drunk and was all over the place, never much got to talk to him except for hi. I talked to Kronwall for a while just about how the season was going and the strengths and weaknesses of the team. He talked to me like a fan, not like a player. It was the night the Sharks came from behind to win. Him and Franzen were injured and did not play. He ended up buying me and the girl I was with at the time a shot and when the bar was closing I stood in the middle of Kronwall, Franzen and a friend of theirs, arms around eachother, screaming the song 'don't stop believing.' I look back and think I must have been way too drunk and imagined it all because it was way to crazy to actually happen. But it did.

Contract talks between Wings and Hossa, Franzen on hold
KillerB14 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
That's a little of what I'm saying. Let Hossa go. I know it hurts and I'm sure I'll cry like I did at the end of Harry and the Hendersons, but that's what I think should happen. Hudler is a solid 3rd to 1st line player. He puts up points with very little ice time. I think the Wings need him badly. Flip is good and I still think he's worth what he's getting paid but he's on the 3rd line and we can't see his value. He's not like Hudler, he needs the minutes to score. Flip does however, make the 3rd line better defensively. A lot of people say trade Flip and while I think that would be the best option moving forward, I do not think it's practical. I don't think teams would go for him at his tag and his recent stats. I could be wrong, I hope I am, that would be a huge help. I'm looking past next season, what about when the cap goes down over the next couple years? What happens when all our GR Griffin studs start hitting RFAgency. Can Holland lock all them up on 4 yr 1-2 million contracts until the economy and the revenue gets better? If any of our young goalies get huge they will not be signing for that little. I don't think it's a question of cap space for this year as much as how many long term huge contracts can we have? Hossa's talking about wanting to find a place to retire. Zetts is locked. I don't see Dats leaving in 14/15. What about Franzen? He's their age. What if we want to lock up any of our defense? Even if we add a couple years to the back with everyone at 1 million the cap hit will still be 4-7 million. In 6 years we will have 4-6 huge contracts(Dats, Zetts, Hossa, Franzen, Rafalski? Kronwall? a goalie??) eating up 24-30 million. It's smart to having anchors(Dats and Zetts, a defenseman) But when Dats, Zetts, Hossa and Franzen are all 33-35 wouldn't you imagine us to have a 25 yr old entering UFA that is just as good as they were if not better, that we would want to extend but can't? It's a dream that I wish could work, I don't see it. I'm just gonna enjoy this year as it is. Like I did in my NHL09 and hope Hossa doesn't sign with the LA Kings for 9.2 million next season, like he did. -
Contract talks between Wings and Hossa, Franzen on hold
KillerB14 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Reports were Holland was meeting with Hossa's agent today. Rich Winter lives in Edmonton. Guess it didn't go all that well. I'm leaning towards Franzen and the extra money for Hudler/Leino/other players. I'm not trying to take away from what Hossa can do, but I think Franzen isn't done getting better and he'll come slightly cheaper. Like the article said, "Every $100,000 matters." I'd rather have a more well rounded team. I think after the playoffs, the Wings will have a better grip on whether they should use that money for the forwards or maybe a goalie. Better to wait. -
Are you referring to the game when the Wings played LA, at home, in Detroit. Then went to Nashville the next day? Or maybe did this happen in NHL09 on your XBOX360? The Wings are always near the top with back-to-back games played. It happens every year. It doesn't effect them.

Rewound my DVR and watched Lidstrom the entire play from faceoff till whistle and nothing. Draper and Malkin got tangled up in front and Draper knocked Malkin down. Ask Holmstrom, Franzen and Cleary if getting knocked down scrambling for a puck gets you a power play....love the call. This could be the Wings PK welcome back party though. I'd love to see that.

If everyone wants their voice to be heard. Then do so here. Who knows if they'll take anyone seriously but I'd recommend to keep your responses mature. Maybe we can flood this email box and make them understand it's a big problem. http://www.nhlofficials.com/contact.asp

Which player in the NHL would wanna play for detroit the most?
KillerB14 replied to a topic in General
I saw Ryan Miller at an East Lansing B'dubs when the Wings eliminated Colorado this past playoffs. I said something about how awesome the score was at the time and he said he was rooting for Colorado because Liles and him played at State together. I asked about him being from Michigan and he said growing up he wasn't a really big Wings fan and didn't feel any connection to them. So after that I dismissed all the rumors about how he was gonna become a FA to sign with the Wings. He then signed an extension with the Sabres this summer. If he wanted to wear the Winged Wheel he wouldn't have signed the extension. -
That first picture is a terrible angle because it looks like the stick is feet above the crossbar which we all know is not the case, but it helps because we see where the puck hit the stick. That second picture; if the group of black pixels you are referring to is the one about a quarter of an inch away from your arrow then the path the pixels were taking would have sent it to the ice before the goalline not into the net. From your first shot we see the puck goes off the heel of the stick from the second angle if you have more then one capture follow the angle the puck went and where it had to of made contact with the stick being swung at that angle. the only place he could have made contact would be above the crossbar. which it did, which i can see was an inch or more above the crossbar. That is NOT too close to call, these are professional goal reviewers, this is what they do. They simply got it wrong.

What I don't get is the people saying that the Wings played a terrible game DESERVED to lose, cuz they didn't. They played bad, I saw it, you saw it, even everyone complaining about the refs saw it. But how can you just say they deserved to lose on a goal that was clearly a high stick, replay shows it and someone just posted a picture that shows it. I get it. You're mad at how lousy they've played, I am too, but why say they deserved to lose because a goal scored illegally was allowed? They didn't deserve to lose, they deserved to be tied 4-4 to Anaheim in OT. and slow clap to the poster that said it was over by an inch but that's not conclusive enough and high-five to everyone who agreed with him. I'm pretty sure the highstick rule has a +/- error of accuracy built right in. all good points. seriously... I want them to play like they did in the playoffs, it was an awesome ride. But they're not right now and they're still bad enough to be 7-1-2 with a possible 16 out of 20 points. Gasp, I know. Still, that doesn't mean when a BS goal is allowed they DESERVED to lose as many critics are quick to point out. I have yet to see a Wing's penalty that I couldn't see why was called, I didn't agree with them all but yes the Wings are doing it to themselves. But after the 4 goals Wings scored which evened the Duck's 4 goals, you guys are right, they didn't deserve to win, just be tied.

I saw Ryan Miller at Bdubs in East Lansing during the Wings win over Avalanche 8-2. He said he was cheering for the Avs because Liles was from State with him. I joked about how he grew up here and wasn't he a Wings fan? He said(very seriously), I didn't grow up that close to Detroit, I'm not really a fan. I have no affiliation to them. Now maybe he thought some clever journalist disguised himself as a drunk Wing's fan in a 10 year old Shanny jersey and was looking for a quote, or he doesn't like the Wings anymore then any other team. If he does sign with Detroit, I guess it will be because of their history and his chance to win and nothing else, I doubt anything is guaranteed. I think Howard is ready to be a backup, we are talking about a backup. Not starter. Raising home-grown goalie talent hasn't been one of this management's strong points(I know, ironic that Ozzie is homegrown) but he started some 15 years ago. Since then, name one goalie the Wings drafted and raised as there own. I don't think many fans have had the experience watching a team grow a goalie. This is how you do it. Bring him in now while we have a solid number 1. 50/30 split. If management is really scared about Howard. Sign a steady keeper like Conklin, who would flourish with the Wings style and have him and Howard share the back up duties. The last thing I want is the Wings to sign a $2-3 million back-up/possible starter without even seeing what Howard can do. I want them to use that money on Malone. If anyone can get a Hometown boy away from the team he grew up loving I want the Wings to try.
