I know when people post the I have a friend who has a second-cousin who is dating the half-brother of someone who works at Cheli's Chili and he said.....it's skeptical, that said take this as you want it, i dont care. During the Avalanche series I was talking with a friend (whose son used to play hockey with a Wing's son and him and the Wing are good friends) about what's the deal with Homer only having 2 pts, a goal and an assist, he said Homer's dealing with a groin injury as bad as Gilchrist in 98. The can opener that Gill gave him might have made it impossible to play now. Supposedly, he was already going to have major surgery in the off-season. Not that Gill knew of the injury, it's upsetting that they do cheap stuff that takes our players out. Roberts definitely knew of the injury to Franzen. And to whatever joker it was on this board that said Homer skated into Gill and Gill checked him....Homer does not waste time with a defenseman in the slot when he knows he needs to get to the net...nice try...thanks for playing...and any other cliche you need to get the point across that you're wrong. Interference plain and simple and Therrien whined about the Wings obstruction....how many quotes about the Wings can you find where they blamed anyone but themselves??? They even lose classy.

Look no further then ESPN and, gasp, Barry Melrose to give the Wings their due credit. They talked about the game plain and simple didn't talk about the Stars off ice they talked about what the Wings did. http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/...91&n8pe6c=2 After watching it I think the reason why i hate how no analyst gives the Wings their credit is because as they go on this awesome run through the playoffs it's great to watch but it adds to the pride you have for your team when you get to listen about how dominate they've been. We've been denied that for the entire playoffs, this helps some. Enjoy.

Did you only read the bottom of my post? what about the top when i talk about Gilchrist's GROIN injury from 1998. Forsberg's just cashing checks. (well he already finished at the end of the regular season) http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article.../804290399/1053 "I think I have to be in a situation where I cannot re-injure it," Forsberg said. "If I can't play, it's unfortunate. Nobody wants to play more than I want to play, but what am I supposed to do? "It doesn't feel good, and if I go out and hurt it even more and be out for the rest of the playoffs, that's not going to do any good." Forsberg said he had improved a lot from Saturday, but the groin pull has been a lingering issue. "I've had it since ages," he said. "I know it doesn't take too long, but I've played with it before, and if it's not good enough, I just re-injure it." If he doesn't play how long does he think these playoffs are gonna last? If he plays on it tonight and re-injures it I guess he doesn't want to miss game 4. I'm hoping Forsberg is back and I expect him to be. and papafunk these teams are nowhere near eachother when both healthy. you want to try and say the Avs might even be a little better if they were healthy??? I'm sorry but if the 2nd and 3rd lines can't fill in, you have no team. When Zetterberg missed a handful of games Filpulla and Hudler got more ice time and picked up the slack. When Holmstrom and Cleary went down, Franzen picked it up for both of them. That's a measure of good teams. Wings still finished first overall after all their injuries.

I guess these foot injuries better be broken/falling off. This is the playoffs. This is when you tie your skate extra tight if your foot's hurt to hold it on. I remember in the 98 run Brent Gilchrist was getting shots directly into his groin between every period. I remember reading an article about a Wings player saying how they got chills hearing Brent scream as this was happening. I remember he had major surgery after the playoffs because his groin muscle had completely separated from the bone. What's Forsberg's injury all about? Brent was our 4th line center playing through that, but their 1A can't? As much as people are saying the series would be much different if the Avs weren't injured, well thats what the playoffs are about, play through injuries. Alfredsson tried coming back with a torn ACL. People who had had ACL or MCL injuries know how much pain and wobbly your knee will be. My foot hurts too much to play tonight but in two nights i can play. I don't see this as a story of the Wings getting off easy I see this as a story of the Avs not having players that will go the extra mile and they don't have depth to make up for it.

On paper, when healthy, these teams aren't even close. But luckily for the Avs hockey isn't played on paper, it's played inside your TV. I said it in another post, if the Avs need to rely on an oft injured person in Forsberg, when he is out it does not make the Wings look bad because they built a team of good, overall healthy players. If anything it makes the Avs look worse because that is what the playoffs are all about, when a guy goes down the teams that win have other players that step up. If the Avs do not get that, they do not win in the playoffs, period. This is NOT a fault on the Wings. Maybe Theodore was sick, but the pressure and chances put on him by the Wings even Roy would've had a hard time stopping. I would venture to say the only "soft" goal was the second one given up by Ozzie, so maybe that means Ozzie was sick. Everyone wants to make an excuses for the Avs, thats fine, I just watched the NHL network on NHL.com and as they showed the four Wings goals they talked about how Theodore didn't look right, wasn't seeing the puck as well, wasn't playing like he did against Minny. They didn't break down any of the offensive plays the Wings set up they gave zero credit to the Wings. They ended by saying something along the lines, Wings hold on only by 4-3 and the Avs didn't even have Forsberg or Wolski. No respect. I guarantee you the only people in the world right now that know why Detroit won that game is the Avs. Because they wouldn't make the excuses that everyone else is. They know the Wings won it, not the Avs lost it. Because they are professional athletes, if they truly believe all this media hype, then this series is over because they won't change anything once they get a healthy Forsberg and Theodore and that will be a disaster.

I was thinking the same thing after reading this from the freep (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080425/SPORTS05/80425010/1053/SPORTS05), granted it was a Colorado columnist, but it seems to resonate the national feelings. They can make excuses for the Avs. That's fine with me Theodore was sick...tell me which one of those goals he could have stopped if he wasn't "sick." I wouldn't have blamed him for any of those. Just think of what would the Avs would have done if Forsberg wasn't out...well Stuart was out for the Wings...plus that's your team, if you need to rely on an oft injured player when he's out don't put it on the other team because they have built a better team whose not injured. I think if the Wings wouldn't have went up so quickly and had a 4-1 lead they wouldn't have sat back as much as with a 2-1 or 3-1, they would not have allowed Colorado much else. Maybe I'm not giving Colorado enough credit maybe I'm giving the Wings too much, but they went into the same shell as they did against nashville in game 3. I say it was the Wings playing down not Colorado playing up. And that's fine, I can take Colorado lightly, I'm not out there playing, the Wings are and you can be damn certain after how they played the last period and a half they are not going to take Colorado lightly either. They are a decent team that can burn you if you let them, and the Wings let them yesterday. Make all the excuses you want for the Avs...as much truth as you feel there is to Forsberg out, Theodore sick. I feel there's just as much truth as Wings stopped carrying the play and sat back for the last half of the game, but guess what...they still won. What a clutch save by Ozzie with 8.4 seconds.

I cannot wait for the series to begin and I also will be in the Joe for Game 2. Couple points to the series and some questions that maybe you can help me with. I was wondering about Colorado's D...do they have any puck moving defensemen? Almost any of the Wings D can bring up a rush with argueably the best in Lidstrom. How's Salei doing? I dunno much about him except on deadline day an analyst joked that the trade would have been announced earlier but Salei and (whoever he was traded for) took forever to skate off the ice. I've heard elsewhere that Salei isn't much of an improvement over who they traded. Goalies are a push for now, Hasek has showed he might not have it and Osgood and Theodore have showed they do...for now. I've heard a lot about how in the regular season the Wings played the Avs when they had all the injuries, but the last game a 4-0 Wings win, was in the midst of the Wings worst losing streak in 20 years somewhat because of injuries. I know regular season has almost no bearing on the playoffs i.e. Montreal v Boston. But I think the Wings have shown they can handle the Avs. A lot of sites are saying Wings in seven, but I'll go with six. Keys are: Sakic & Forsberg v Datsyuk & Zetterberg: I think the younger legs have this one. I think both sides have enough experience for it not to be a factor. Wings Lidstrom & Rafalski v Foote & Salei: Foote and Lidstrom are huge shutdown Dmen with different styles if they can catch Foote out of position, it will help their cause. Wings Theodore v Osgood. Push Statsny & Wolski v Hudler & Franzen. I am not a huge fan of the Wings secondary scoring and I don't know much about the Avs but i'd just guess they are better. Avs

It's all just talk that everyone loves to do about bashing the Wings, they've went from national telecast love child to red headed step child, the past couple years. Wings are 3-2 in their series and reporters and analysts are saying they might not make it out and even if they do this proves they won't win a cup well I guess going along that thought prcoess, the Penguins and Rangers are the only team that has a legitimate shot at winning the Cup. Because they won 4-0 and 4-1 respectively. Everyone else is at least at 3-2. They just need something to talk about they need to create stories. No one has said San Jose's problems discredit them, no one has even mentioned the fact that the Canadiens are actually facing an elimination game. I thought in game 5 the Wings carried the play, looked calm and confident and just played their game. Like a high-school girls bathroom, Nashville and everyone else is trying to create drama. No one mentions how the Wings were at 2-2 after dropping 3 and 4 in calgary but ended up winning the series in 6 last year, no one gives the Wings a shot. They're hoping for a loss, praying for it because then they can all talk how the Wings blew it again. Anyone who thought the Wings were gonna blow the Preds out of the water doesn't watch hockey out of their city, the Preds, like the flames are built for this. They have a terrible team that can shut down highly offensive teams by playing muck hockey and have a stellar goaltender that becomes a puck magnet. It is just that. And enough of the Preds shouldn't have even been in the playoffs big woop so they were better then who to make it? The Blues? The Coyotes? Great accomplishment. Some bottom feeder had to make it, that is like saying you are the smartest retarded kid (not to offend anyone it's just a point). Nashville and everyone else outside of Detroit thinks it some great accomplishment to be down 3-2 in a playoff series. Well after the Wings win today they can sure be proud of it. GO WINGS!!!

I thought Meech was phenomenal in the reg season. He read plays so well he always knew when to pinch or go backdoor. They moved him to forward and he just didn't know how to read it as well and he didn't do anything there and was benched when guys got healthy. I would love to see Meech in there for that 6th spot. He adds physicalness too. I don't care about the fact he never played in the playoffs yet. Anyone remember how well Quincey filled in last year when Schneider went down? I think that would help. As for our fourth line I dunno how much it matters, they aren't gonna play in close games after the halfway point. Regardless, I would like to see Downey in there, he played all season and gets benched for McCarty. They also have plenty of problems within their set roster. Flip's trying but just getting out-muscled to everything. If Sammy brings the puck in the zone one more time then spins along the boards while 4 preds close in on him and then he just keeps spinning until he loses it instead of throw it along the boards i am just gonna lose it. I think our powerplay should switch Franzen and Holmstrom. Franzen has shown he can play with Dats and Zetts and Homers a much better grinder along the boards to get pucks to Huds and Flip, he works more then half the rest of the team. Just a couple ideas I would like to see happen. It's always weird how much we can all say what they should do even though they are the hockey minds and we're just fans. 3-0 Win! Whose with me? GO WINGS!!!

1) The shot did not go straight in, it deflected off Kronwalls butt and to the right of Hasek. He didn't have a chance on the first 2. The 3rd one tho, beat him cleanly from too far out. Which might be one reason why he was pulled, the other was the fact that the Wings are playing terrible. 2)The Wings played the 3rd period like they played the season, the first 2 periods they weren't creating too much and they couldn't get past the d too easily, I can't fathom why in this "new" NHL the refs are allowing the preds to take the extra hand off the stick and grab on. But they are. 3)Good thing you don't run the Wings, stick to being a psych major and everyone will be better for it, except, with your anomosity, your patients. The problem is not the goalie, TWO GOALS! they scored TWO GOALS! I am a huge Hasek fan, that said i think Ozzie would be a better start. What the Wings are giving up back and forth in front of the net I think Ozzie is quicker and the Wings will be better off. This is nothing against what Hasek is doing but since the team is allowing the Predators to play much better then them, we need a quicker tender. So go with Ozzie. Hasek is far past his prime but still can play but the Wings are getting skated all over and I think it's time to go with Ozzie, he looked very good last night. And cboth maybe you should look into some psych help of your own. Calm down.

I think the point is entirely missed. Every single thing you listed happens when players are actually PLAYING the sport of hockey. Avery stopped playing hockey the moment he focused on Broduer's sightline and followed that around instead of anything else. Curve of the stick is to shoot the puck. Tear away jerseys were to fight an opponent. Crosschecking depending on the severity (and yes there is a penalty for an excessive amount) is used to fight the opponent for the puck. I guess we will never know what would have happened if Crosby did that, cuz he didn't and that's an asinine point to try and make cuz he didnt do it. In the reference to star treatment look no further to the skate stomping incident to complain about that, because both a lower-tier and all-star player did the same thing. Look what happened. You can't argue star treatment here because there is nothing to compare it too. The point holds no weight. I would say the NHL took a matter of hours to settle this because it was that simple. If a player stops playing hockey to try distracting a goalie instead of making a play simple as that...penalty. Now with suspensions, there is a lot more thought that needs to go into it. It's a more important process and I can't fathom why anyone would criticize them for not rushing through it. If you can make a point to how Avery's actions contributed him to playing hockey, himself making a hockey play, I'd love to hear it and then I might just have to agree with you but for now I think I'll have to agree with the NHL rules. somebody give me one of those cheesy thumbs up!!!
-
I agree with you for sure. It's a pathetic thing to see in hockey, it is unsportsmanlike. Avery wasn't playing hockey, at least Homer is trying to deflect the puck. It's a cheap thing to do. While I don't think there could be a penalty going with Mclean's reasoning, because the rule he read was attempting to incite the other team into taking a retaliation penalty on you after a ref warned you to stop. I don't think Avery wanted to incite a penalty he was just screening, but it's a ***** way to do. I'm curious to what his teammate said to him. Whoever was in front of the net with Avery skated to him, said something then skated back to the other side of the net. I wonder what other NHL'ers feel about it, including his teammates.

I was at the game and I thought there was a lot of bad penalties called both ways. The NHL is quickly becoming the NRL, I want them to control the clutching and grabbing. But as soon as anybody hits the ice and another player is around, the arm is in the air. Players are getting very good at their legs oddly giving out when they feel pressure. Correct me if I'm wrong (with the NHL rule book) but the instigator penalty is not for that situation. Phaneuf blindsided Hudler(which is a problem in itself) and Lilja stood up for his teammate on that play. The instigator would come into play if on the next time Downey came onto the ice he picked a fight with Phaneuf. Phaneuf instigated that fight more then Lilja back trying to crush a player who was passing and looking behind him, which is something that needs to stop. I'm so glad most players want the instigator penalty removed and hopefully they will get it. Plays like that need to be handled the next time an enforcer steps out onto the ice. Same with Hartnell...what the hell was he trying to prove lining up a player on his knees completely defenseless. Remove the instigator and next year is the year of the enforcer!

Doesn't anyone realize how these segments works? They were talking about who is the best NHL team and they're gonna use conflicting points to start a discussion. They have two teams with similar dominant records and numbers, of course they are going to have two different anchors talk them up. Yes, Melrose doesn't favor the Wings and I've seen plenty of it but in this situation it seems you're just nitpicking.

I went to the game with my $63 seat, section 221, row 22 seat 8. Just to the right of center ice 4 rows from the top but i could see everything. $63 ticket $17 2 beers $3.50 peanuts $12 parking $95.50 total So worth it though, I think the $100 i made on roulette at Greektown afterwards sure helped. GO WINGS!!!

Actually we're both right seeing how we said the same thing. I wasn't aware that the whistle was blown right after the goal in question was scored then pulled out and not counted. The original poster made it sound like play continued right after and was stopped later, reviewed and never counted. Once the play was stopped by the cover up and then the faceoff was dropped without checking then no, of course the goal can't count but not because "the play was over" it would be because "the next play started." They should of reviewed it right afterwards. I'm surprised they didn't.
-
That's not true. For whatever reason the goal wasn't counted, i can guarantee it wasn't because the play was over. I've seen it happen plenty of times when someone scores and minutes later there's a stoppage of play and they realize they scored and they count the goal. So I don't know the circumstances but it's not because the "play was over" I suppose it's an odd rule but I've seen it happen from time to time, once a referee decides the play is over, it's over regardless of how long it takes him to put the whistle in his mouth and blow it. I've seen both Wings goals and opponents goals disallowed because of it.
