Infact diving there would probably be the worst option because if the puck dropped in the crease it probably would have counted but instead it wasn't a serious scoring threat, hence the play getting blown dead... There was 0 to gain by diving?I'm more concerned of our horrible net front coverage then a "possible" injury on a goalie that if he didn't go down would have made the easy routine save on the rebound that was on the ice if I'm correct. That wasn't the turning point... Andersson not being able to take a man in front of the net twice is a lot bigger of a problem

I know he has... But there are also times (yes rare) where he didn't decide to fight through and stayed down, and was fine a minute later and played te rest of the game in phased... It's the workings of goaltenders... They almost all do it in one way or another... Yes some more then others but I can not sit here and blame that game or even a part of it on Smith supposedly faking an injury. We had way to many holes else where... Just like the breakaway goal for Hanzel... That is not the linesmans fault he is in posistion toc all the offsides. That is Z's job to know his surroundings. We had far too many break downs in front of out net that lost us that game... Like the one poster said the vibration from The shaft could have rendered his arm numb, but I think more from his reactions and grabbing around his head... He probably extended his blocker arm out to make the save and with the added impact from the shot could have caused him to pull or strain something in his shoulder, neck area which could easily send a sharp pain through your neck, shoulder and arm... It happens in daily life let alone NHL goaltending...

Yes it was very strange but muscle pulls, tweets and such things happen in strange ways and not from contact usually... How many times a season does a goalie stay down because of injury and it's never a problem. Just so happens it wasn't him gettig run over. A goalie can't go to the bench and change on the fly like a regular player can when injured and there pos. is too important and can not be covered by some one else in the play to "play through an injury" I much rather Howard stay down then give up a goal trying to play when he can't. There posistion is too vital and the reason why teams usually can only carry 1 starting goalie

2 things then I'm going to bed because even though this team frustrates me at times sometimes our fans frustrate me more. If people really think that smith fakes an injury because he thought a rebound goal from The hash marks on the ice was a guaranteed goal before it even got over there, then I'm at a loss for words. I guess the only way you can pull something or tweek something in your neck or shoulder is if the puck hits you there not by extending to make a save and then again that the rebound actually would have had a chance of going in if Smith was hurt (or faking as some think) For the guy that said he should leave the game? Wait till it happens the other way and tell me it should force Howard out of the game and should then apply for every time the game is stopped or an injury? Any player that gets hurts has to leave the game. Finally the people getting on Howard, no he did not have a great game but I'm forgetting the first goal but two empty net back door rebound goals because Andersson can't cover his man twice, and a breakaway and every one wants Gus back in...? I kinda like what babcock is doing... throwing Alfie or Franzen out there occasionally in place of Bertuzzi... Keeps Bert fresh and Alfie is fresh from playing 3rd line.

Sorry let me try to reiterate. I don't want him Traded and want him on the line up. What I was trying to say was that quote made it sound like the situation went further then Babcock just wanting to play him. I just kinda was asking the universal question of maybe he is being shopped. I figured keeping him out of the line up would prevent injury and keep any deal that could be in the works from falling through. I'm not sayin it's what I want or that it will happen. Just trying to put my thinking of one scenario that could be in the fold. If he was getting moved then I would think Tatar plus roster player plus a pick for a more established offensive scorer, but once again I don't think we should not do I want to.

I'm worried that maybe management is keeping him out as trade material...?? He does hold the most value and I think the wings rather hold on to nyquist then Tatar...???

We all no no way Tatar beats out Bert on the first line... Sigh... This is really startif to piss me off... Drop emmerton to add tootoo for speed... Move Bert to first line to slow then down... I'm praying that that Abby can get Weiss going forecheck wise and that cleary (sigh) and Andy can get Alfie the puck and keep him fresh for PP

I understand what your saying completely but For right now he is on our roster. So unless we trade him for someone and move nyquist or Tatar up or we buy him out in the off season we know what we have. I'm not blaming Weiss I just feel he is having a really hard to adjusting to Detroit. He has great moments where he drives the net like you said but there are a lot of times it looks like he is too worried bout where he is going and what he is doing within the system that it knocks him off his game. I totally agree though that Franzen is a big problem, but it's a problem we already knew exsisted, choose not to fix if. If your bored go look at his difference in hits after he broke out. His entire game changed where he thought he was a sniper and not a power forward... That's where the problem is... Plays like Heatly... Thinks they are way better then they are

After watching this game I'm not ready to say our 2nd line will be garbage all season but if they don't put it together then they are. I feel the absolutely biggest problem on that line right now is Weiss. We brought him in to be the "abby" on that line. He is supposed to be using his speed to pursue the puck and set up our shooters. Alfie and Franzen both have great shots when they get the puck but Weiss needs to get it to them. I think he is too worried on trying to learn the system that its taking a hit to his game. When Weiss isn't skating and trying to forecheck and pursue the puck we have 3 floaters on one line which is horrendous. As for the bottom six, not gonna even bother. Everybody has already stated too much useless talent on this roster. Going to be even tougher when Helm gets back because its going to be near impossible to get Tatar in the line up, let alone Nyquist. Im not going to panic on this team yet, because slow starts for us is pretty common, thats why the season is 82 games but for us to be a cup contender. Our second line needs to get there s*** together so we don't have to split up Z and D. We need helm back and playing with Nyquist and Tatar, and then Andersson centering the fourth with Tootoo and insert one of Miller/Eaves, Bertuzzi, Sammy, and I'm probably forgetting someone. (figuring Emmerton is in GR)

Sorry I need to explain that better... They wont be getting sent down. It would be considered a paper send down. They get "assigned" to GR to come off the cap until guys can be put on IR. This is what philly is doing with couturier and some other guys. Assigned to the minors for a day, guys go to IR, and then reassigned to the Flyers the next day. The problem is though that doesn't give us enough cap room like you said so we shall see what happens.

I think your misunderstanding the face off rule... It's two guys getting kicked out consecutively on the same face off... Example: the ref boots the first guy and then boots the guy that replaced him.

I honestly think HBO does an incredible job of combining the sport of hockey and the way of life as a hockey player. They do it with class and make it extremely enjoyable and I haven't been this excited for any tv show Except maybe the finale of dexter, but that let me down... Sadly

Or it is lose lose for them... Either they beat an team for of kids, or they lose to a team full of kids... Not a huge boost in my opinion
