I think the longer season is really getting to him. Combine that with the fact that he needs to play with talent to really be effective but is stuck on the bottom lines isn't helping either. I think he will have a lot better season next year when he is more conditioned for the length of the season.

Yes we are loaded down with D, and I don't like the price but.... We still need another top 2 D... We don't have one. We have fill ins for short roles but we don't have a top pairing.

That is true, but that window closed really quick when he returned to playing decent. It would have been a gamble trade at best and I'm assuming the asking price was still too high or somebody would have bit. One would have to assume St. Louis would have faith he would bounce back and not just trade him for peanuts. Thats one of those situations where he is playing off his game but his price is still high because you know the talent is there.

I think people need to stop looking at Iginla for a rental. We rarely acquire guys as just a rental and anybody trading for Iginla wont be considering him a rental. If Detroit trades for him it will be because we are resigning him and most likely letting fippula walk. I know people want to trade Filppula for something but he will be important to us in a playoff run. I know people say they want Detroit to sell but we just don't do that. We have a small window left with Datsyuk in his prime and then we lose one of the best players in the game. Yes, we may not be named a TOP contender but this weekend we showed we can beat the number 2 team in the West, we have played fine against both Minny and Vancouver and our games against Chicago were all close ones that a player like Iginla could really help us win. At some point you have to sell a little bit of your future to play for the now. I have seen people on here asking for a Power forward, asking for a legit winger for Datsyuk but nobody wants to pay for it. We are not just going to mind a Milan Lucic hanging around out back of the Joe with a pair of skates over his shoulder. The price is high on iginla but once again we have people saying they don't want to sell future parts which aren't even sure about but we are sure that Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Franzen only have a short window of opportunity left. I say we give it a shot because I do not see us trading Filppula unless it was in a package for an upgrade. EDIT: With all of that being said... I still want to know the price on Clowe... Imagine the price tag...

The first domino has fallen? Don't know all the details yet but Joe Morrow is the main piece going to Dallas. Don't think we really missed on him. I think if Detroit goes after Iginla it is because we plan on keeping him around next season or two as well. He is obviously going to take a drop in salary and having our top 6 consisting of Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Brunner, Franzen, and Iginla/Fillpula. I don't think we can keep filp if we bring in Iginla. So I guess at the end of the day I think Holland with either pay Filppula 5ish or Iginla 5ish...

He cant replace Datsyuk ever haha... well I hope he can but thats high expectations lol... but lets hope he doesn't have to haha.

Im not going to lie... So far Filppula is looking pretty good out there and is helping us get some puck possession time. I just really wish he could become a game changer.

Just out of Curiosity, not even sure if SJ would even be interested, but going East we need to get bigger and get some grit... and idea what Clowe is looking for contract wise? I think in the long run he has shown offensive upside, he has shown size and grit and he could be a good force on a Line of Datsyuk and Brunner/Franzen. I'm not saying they are going to take a straight up deal or we want one but I am curious what he is looking at after last season not performing and this season struggling as well. A new environment could help him.

I really hope something changes his mind next year and he signs an extension. Doesn't have to be a long one but something. Aka Kenny gets him somebody to play with...

I'm not trying to pick on you but I think it's a little early to be saying the Tatar that we see now, which has been flying and high skilled, is the max we will get out of a 20 year old. I think another year or two in the NHL he could be an ennis type... Small, fast and skilled. On another look at things... Do you think there is anyway that we are doing this to one take another look at Nyquist but on second hand show case him for trades. Everyone knows our current log jam at forward and Tatar and Nyquist in the AHL deserving NHL spots, plus jarnkrok coming straight over to the NHL has been a topic for a bit Maybe this is strictly a move to increase his value???

AS for the face off rule, I understand completely why they have enforced it. The object of a face off is to give both teams an even chance at possession. In an Offensive zone face off, when there was no penalty, the defensive team has the advantage because they can use a hand pass. With the new rule in place now both teams are at the same advantage.
