Just browsing the "news" sites and came accross an article by some out of touch sports writers discussing how the Maple Leafs are pushing for the playoffs. I know they have won a few games recently but come on, they are on the edge of disaster and have to win every remaining game to get into the Playoffs.... wow it must be difficult to be a Leafs fan. Article: http://sports.sympatico.msn.cbc.ca/TopStor...onto-new-jersey Standings: (Eastern Conference) 1 Pittsburgh Penguins* 81 2 Montréal Canadiens* 81 3 Carolina Hurricanes* 73 4 New Jersey Devils 80 5 Ottawa Senators 80 6 Boston Bruins 76 7 New York Rangers 76 8 Philadelphia Flyers 74 9 Buffalo Sabres 71 10 Washington Capitals 70 11 New York Islanders 69 12 Toronto Maple Leafs 68 13 Florida Panthers 66 14 Atlanta Thrashers 65 15 Tampa Bay Lightning 59

I second this, now we need a decent March to get the guys ready for a long stretch through June..

I love your response.. gave me a good chuckle. Only Wings fans are so dedicated that every player, play, coach and managing decision is judged BEFORE we even see the person in a jersey or have a clue what is going to happen. lol

Well this years trade deadline has come and gone, we are going to be processing the results until the cup is awarded. So lets take a min. to look back to last year. If you were in Holland's shoes last year knowing what we know about the players and the way the playoffs went, which player could Holland have added to our roster to get us the cup? For me I would have added a defencemen, someone to give us some depth down the stretch (since I know we had so many injured against the Ducks) this may have been the one thing to put us over the edge. I do not know who but Marc-Andre Bergeron would have been nice. Anyone else have suggestions? Trades Last year: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/trade_deadline/featu...24&hubname=

Wo so much anger in this thread! Defense wins championships, Offense wins games. Anehiem beat Ottawa last year with better defense then the Sens had offense. We lost to the Ducks even though we had better defense (In my opinion) because we had too many injuries. Stuart is insurance on the defense plus he lets us come back with a big hit here and there. To anyone who is made we did not pick up more scoring... we lost mathias last year trying to get secondary scoring and now he is an awesome prospect who will be big in the NHL next year. I am glad we did not sell the farm for a big player or pick up someone over the hill (Federov has no heart for the cup left IMO). We need our young stars o step up like Dats and Zet did in the playoffs last year. Babcock can make them do it.

If we bought a rental player like we did with Bert last year then we isk not signing him and then giving up young super stars and the rental. Bad move. TSN analysts spent some time this morning making fun of Holland for trading Matthias last year. We lost Bert, draft picks and a young star who is turning out to be an excellent player and could one day be an NHL star. Bert got us 3 points in the playoffs and did not show any more heart then Lang. Do we really want to sell our future to get a rental who gives up on us. I am happy Holland picked up a decent big defensemen to help us down the stretch but showed belief in our young stars up front. They all have potential to step up and be the second line scoring that we wanted to get today,,, no farm selling required.

Yeah I think it is mostly me reading into the title/caption more then I should, I totaly ignored the '?' oh well this would be a cool trade if it happened. We would have a huge defense core.

Why would you pt your description the way you did.. so deceiving..

Who wants to sort through ~1000 posts and 20+ pages of them just to find this link.

So did the Wings put Ellis on waivers to make room for D Mac? Could we be seeing him in a uniform sooner rather then later or is this just to make room for another player (or just regular player movement?)
-
You have said it best here. His heart and grit are worth more then the league minimum. If he does play like crap well at least the Wings showed some love to a former player and gave him the respectable chance he deserves. If this happens Mac is going to be my sleeper pic in my playoff draft this year!

Well with the trade deadline nearing every player who is on the fringe with their coach/team has their name thrown into the ring for potential trades. TSN reports that Prospal was already being shopped around and then said some things to anger the coach. Now the expectation is that he will be traded if for no other reason then to get him away from Tampa. So what is he worth? Would he fit in as the second line scoring we need for a playoff run? Just thought I would share. I think he would fit in well with the wings (puck posession, speed), his salary is fair (1.9 mill) so we may even have a shot at keeping him through next year. He is on pace for 30 od goals this year... would he be too expensive (in terms of players to give up) for he Wings? TSN Article: http://www.tsn.ca/blogs/mckenzie/?id=229581 Also sorry if this is being discussed elsewhere, so many people could be traded that it is hard to keep track of what has been discussed. Lastly Youtube Link of his post game interview that has made TB upset:

anyone have a mirror of the original story or still have it in cache so you can post the story in the forums here? ESPN pulled or moved the story and I cannot find it.

I know it is very early but when we are on a roll I get excited. Do you guys think we can beat our 95-96 record for most wins in one season? We had 62 wins... Can we top Montreal's 76-77 record for more points? They had 132 points... At this point: 43 Games Played, 32 Wins, 67 Points We have 39 games ramaining so to beat the totals we would need: 31 wins or 80% winning percentage in remaining games (63 wins total in season) If we pulled off the most wins in a season we would be sitting at 129 points. This means we would then have to get 4 more points in the remaining 8 games. These could come in the form of 2 wins or 4 OT losses. Well it is slim but it would be a fun regular season if it happened.... what are your thoughts?
-
I did not mention the playoffs and I do not want history to repeat there. Draper does not need to get hit from behind again and we do not need to get injured out of the playoffs. I am just suggesting that a fun way to finish this great regular season would be to press against our 95-96 record. For the record though Colorado should have never won in those Conference Finals. Detroit was the better team and if it not for old cheap shot Claude we would have won. However I say the same thing about the Ducks last year, the goal that was counted when Hasek was pushed into the net to give the Ducks the chance to win the game in O/T should have never counted. I say if we can use video replay to determine if Crosby kicked the puck in then we can use video replay to determine if Rob Nedermier pushed Hasek into the net. Stupid rules got it wrong! Oh man now I am way off topic in my own thread how embarrassing....

Posted this on another thead prviously but this is my favorite method: 1. Install Firefox Web Browser: http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/firefox/ 2. Install DownloadHelper Video Download Extension: http://www.downloadhelper.net 3. Visit NHL.com watch a video 4. Pause Video During playback and let it completely download 5. Riht click somewhere on the background (not on images or video) 6. Go "Downloadhelper->Select the file you want to download" This will give you the flv format of the video clip. You need to download an flv player like wimpy: http://www.wimpyplayer.com/products/wimpy_...flv_player.html Then you can watch the file whenever you want. However if you would like it in WMV format or anything else simply use an flv to wmv converter (search google they are out there)

I am with you, I would love to learn a beter (less complicated) method of pulling data from NHL.com. There are many videos I like to grab a copy of just to archive and collect. If there is an easier way please enlighten us al Canadian Wings.
-
So what is the solution?
-
I agree with you, it seems everytime I am trying to do something with video files I am totally surprised to learn that VLC can already perform the ask. (as is the case with playing flv files or converting them to WMV). It really is a great open source project!
-
Complecated, once you have the tools installed it is as simple as right clicking and selecting download video. You should really try it, there is nothing difficult. I broke it into many steps to make it easy to reproduce. Although now I am very interested in hearing about another method. The one I describe would give an exact clone of the original file (ie best quality), so I am very curious about another method.
-
You can also use the great media player VLC to play the downloaded files. http://www.videolan.org/ Then follow this guide I found to output to WMV or whatever: http://www.lytebyte.com/2007/04/25/how-to-...y-other-format/

Ok man I got it to download: 1. Install Firefox Web Browser: http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/firefox/ 2. Install DownloadHelper Video Download Extension: http://www.downloadhelper.net 3. Visit NHL.com watch a video 4. Pause Video During playback and let it completely download 5. Riht click somewhere on the background (not on images or video) 6. However if you would like it in WMV format or anything else simply use an flv to wmv converter (search google they are out there) Did I win? It works for me.

Hey all, I do not want to complain but I thought I should post a message to the forum to see if anyone can get me any updates on the contest held shortly after the playoffs ended. I have been racing to the post office everyday just to check if the book arrived but so far I have not seen it. I am dying to read it and take in all the Yzerman information but I have not heard anything about it since the contest closed and I won. (Thanks again to everyone for voting) If anyone knows anything about the contest or who to contact in my attempt to get an update please either post to this topic or send me a message. Thanks Contest Info: http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=43634 Voting Info: http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=43635
