I have not seen this mess posted on the forums as of yet and I have been waiting to hear what you guys think. I am sure you guys have heard or read about the crazy situation so where do you think things will go? http://www.tsn.ca/headlines/news_story/?ID=212659 Summery: Basically on July 1st the Oilers and Nylander's Agent agreed via e-mail to a contract. Edmonton sent over the standard players agreement and then on July 2nd it was announced that Nylander signed with Washington for less money. Nylander has since said (or his agent spoke on his behalf) that he was not interested in the cold climate of Edmonton both for himself and his family. Update: TSN compared this to the 1995 contract negotiation between our beloved Wings and the great Mike Vernon. Back then Detroit and Vernon's agent came to terms on a two year contract. Detroit faxed over a statement of agreement. However after this the Wings changed their minds and proposed a 1 year contract. It caused quite the mess since Vernon and his agent wanted it at 2 years and they had an informal written agreement. Well it was a bit of a fight and when an arbitrator final was called in to look into the incident the arbitrator ruled in Detroit's favour. Since no contract was signed nothing was official. What do you think will happen this time? Will Nylander be labelled a trouble maker and next time his contract expires will teams think twice and even go so far as to black list him?
-
Really? When did it happen, and which teams were involved?
-
I agree with the what someone else said. Even if Nylander was forced to play for the OIlers there is no way in hell they would want him. Sure he would be professional and try but at the same time his heart would be out of it. That does not help any team (Lang) lol The reason Lowe is complaining and not Mctavich is that his job is on the line and he is feeling the heat now. He was likely given a budget and positions to fill. Now it looks like he failed to perform his duties. We shall see if he can keep his job but wow that is all crazy. I saw on tv something about the oilers offering similar numbers to some big name players who stated they would not play in Edmonton because they did not like the cold/city. (Druy, and the like). If this is now the city is being viewed then the mayor should be approached to try to change that. The oilers shoud hire someone to help the players make the transition but at the same time begin talking with the fans and the city to come up with a game plan that helps them both succeed. As for the people who said that the e-mail should be an informal contract. I expect that since the league states that without a players contract signed nothing is final Nylander will never be an Oiler. I sure would love to see Nylander and his agent fined by the league for the unprofessional behaviour. However just like the Detroit case from 1995, I expect nothing to actually happen except some angry individuals and hopefully some big changes in Edmonton. Just my 2 cents on this developing situation. What can Edmonton do to improve their image (speed up global warming??)

I guess this means that Letsgowings is expanding even beyond the NHL. Sadly it is expanding into the spam world but hey at least it is still the best team site I have ever come across.

'How you became a Wings fan' Contest: Congrats, zaxx!
zaxx replied to betterREDthandead's topic in General
Thanks for all the kind words of congratulations and the wonderful offering of a prize/contest such as this. I am so excited and I was telling everyone who would listen this weekend (was in a soft ball tournament.... or drinking and playing ball weekend) I am totally stoked and thank-you to everyone who voted for me and to everyone on these forums. Can't wait to check our the prize, sounds so cool By the way I really liked the other contestants stories and expect many had a hard time selecting who should win. -

Wow only a few hours to go and things are looking good. I am so excited and this is such an honor. I was just posting my story because I am a huge fan and then out of the blue you guys decide to provide some cool prizes then you all vote me up there. I really appreciate this all and I hope that I can hang on for the win later today. Who would have thought that you would get rewarded for being a gigantic Red Wings fan (other then the reward of watching them play). -
I think we need to start a thread putting the blame for the loss solely on your shoulders. Sure some may blame the team for not waking up until the third, or babcock for not motivating them enough or some other lame brained idea. We here at LGW know that the reason we lost is one of our own failed to perform proper pregame rituals. Thanks buddy. **Note please realize I am just poking fun and do not intend to place any blame, in fact I failed to put my Wings jersey on until the game started so I to am to blame.

I have been thinking about this same topic. The Wings this year despite having some older proven playoff performers there are a lot of young guys who did not have that success. After this year though they stepped up and showed why they are on the best team in the world. Next year we should bring in Quincy full time, and look at some of our other prospects (perhaps trade some defencemen for ruining overtime against the ducks and get some good draft picks for the future) and we have a great shot for the playoffs next year. This will be the first time in some time that the Wings will have a younger team of proven players. Should be fun watching the Cup parade next summer. Oh and I feel I must remind everyone here that we are the most spoiled fans in professional sports history. We cheer for a team that consistently had made the playoffs more times in a row then any other team in professional sports history (something like 17 times in a row). We have a great general manager and total management system that finds a way to develop great players (despite trading away our draft picks) and bring in seasoned players. The system is amazing and we are fortunate enough to reap the benefits each season and playoffs. Go Wings!

Everyone is overlooking the good from the article. other fans came to her aid and held the asshats until the police came. At many soccer games mob mentality kicks in and a crowd brawl breaks out. Or in other situations the fans just watch like it is part of the show. These guys were asshats and I am sure that they will be prosecuted correctly. If I were running the Sens then I would make a big deal out of this. Denounce the fools, and then give free tickets (to the team booth) to the lady and the two who stepped in to save her. Let them come to the next playoff home game. This way they as an organization get some free publicity and they can reward the good samaritans who saved the ladies life wile apologizing to the lady for her pain. Not that it was there fault but they are putting on the show so they should do something nice. Anyways I am glad to hear that some fellow hockey fans did the right thing and kept the fools for the cops to deal with.

How about "The Dominator" the man earned the name years ago and still today he deserves it

Don Cherry pays props to Babcock. He calls him out for being the reason the Wings have been strong even when they fall behind 2 - 0. He is correct on this one, Babcock has been great for the Wings and he has done a lot of things correct. Even if we were to lose this series we at least can know that the team rallied behind Mike and did the best they could. View Coaches Corner Here

I have a few quick points on this topic: 1. Calm down and stop attacking each other over this zany topic 2. It is always nice to see a big head cut down to size however he would not be amazing if he did not believe in himself (see Mohammad Ali) 3. Martin is not the greatest goalie ever (Roy and Sawchuk take top honers in my book) but he is an amazing goalie who has taken his team to the cup on several occasions. He is superb, so yeah it is nice to see cockiness taken down but in the end he has done enough to deserve a little boasting.

Ha ha, wow my own editor failed me.... and provided ironic justice. Thanks for the spelling lesson.

Well CBC put up a great article about the game today. However someone in editing must have been sleeping, unless Nickolas changed his name since his injury. Stefan Kronwall is mentioned as the defenseman with the injury, as any Wings fan knows Nickolas plays on Detroit not Stephan. Article: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2007...harks-five.html

I laughed loud enough that my cubicle neighbor was not impressed

I agree, as soon as the stick hit there was a large red gash on his forehead. You can see this on the slow motion of the play. I think he is just fine, likely just deep enough to warrent being checked out. But at first he seemed fine, I mean they were doing the stiches on the bench. I never heard that he was going to the hospital.. that sucks.

Well written, I enjoyed this off the cuff comment. Sadly a true opinion of some...

Sadly I missed the game (travelling for vacation), however I just finished watching the archived version on cbc.ca (thank-you cbc!) I think Playfair told McLennan to go in and slash whomever stands in front of him. Playfair was trying to send a message to Detroit, the league and the refs that Calgary feels we are illegally bumping kipper and creating scoring chances as a result. I mean come on, when a goalie is pulled 100% of the time they take their helmet off and sit on the bench to watch the game. Kipper left his helmet on (just lifted it up), handed his stick to a trainer who did not move (ie the stick was never put away). Then Kipper stood up and waited to go back in. I have never seen something so blatant. The Flames are looking for any advantage and if it means they send in a no name goalie and tell him to swing at anyone in front just to do it, they will try. He lasted 18 seconds, no one did anything to him before he started slashing (yes franzen hit him but it was after 3 slashes by McLennan). If Playfair feels the flames need to do this crap to win then his is nothing but a bum. Sick and dirty play...although the sociopath in me loves all this fun at the end of the game.

Now we need a pic of recovering baby Annison in a baby Wings jersey. Get the little one showing some wings love with a smile on and the little bundle of joy can perhaps have her picture on some t-shirts. If Bernie the bird can do it then Annison would be more inspirational and cuter. Good to hear you are safe and recovering.

Yes the suspension would have been horrible. Still it would have been sick to see..... man I am messed in the head. Detroit does need someone who can get in a big fight and get the team lit up. We do not really have that player and it makes comebacks very difficult. Momentum is so important.

When I saw Dom swing his stick I thought he actually was taking a swing at Ig. I really wanted him to follow through and clip Ig in the upper body or throat. I am a bit of a sociopath but I want the Wings to get in a big fight this series. Show some spark and get the team going. It would have been awesome for Dom to be the one to do it for them. I know I would feel bad for Ig as he would have one hell of an injury, but man it would have been worth it.... Come on guys beat someones face in.. Bert squared off with Dion before a ref came in. Big Bert could and would have taken him!

Good Call! -
Babcock did the same thing Bowman would have done. He changed the lines a lot and made Calgary adjust. We outplayed them and out chanced them. We did not get beat by Calgary we got beat by ourselves. We played horrible on the penalty kill, in the playoffs PK is all that matters. Babcock is doing a great job with our team and he should keep doing so. Oh and for the record I believe that Yzerman asked not to be on that famous draw, he was hurt remember.
