I'd rather see Franzen knee someone in the head, then throw a fit when someone touches glove to his face. Do enforcers prevent injuries? No, but they prevent reoccurring instances where the entire team gets bullied, thus leading to injuries. Enforcers are the street justice of the hockey world. The "police" (refs) aren't doing an adequate job for the most part in supporting player safety, so that's where the thugs come in. Is it really that hard to acquire someone that can fight AND play hockey? Probably not.. Edit: Having players with multiple roles seems to be non existent.

I'd trade Howard. I love him, and have 100 percent faith in him. But when your team sucks, you're goalie does double work, and in turn also sucks. At this point in time, the Wings do not need a goalie worth more than 2 million. Goalies are easier to find then a group of defenseman and 4 solid forward lines. Build a team, then hire a goalie. Don't build a goalie, then develop a team in front of him. Bad management. The Wingers are poor and can't compliment the centers. And since the Wings are built on skill; the heavier, faster, tougher league is causing our entire roster to be on the injured list. Can the Wings turn things around? Yes, in 3-5 years....but the Americans are greatly losing interest in the watered down NHL because mass media wants everyone to be a football play..er...a football fan, 3-5 years time could be detrimental to hockey in Detroit.

It's time to make some major personnel changes when there's no other choice but to have Cleary, Sammy, AND Bertuzzi all in the same lineup. At this rate, everyone that's injured right now, has history of battling with injuries. I would put them all on LTIR, give them adequate time (2 months) to rest, get over the menstrual cycle (Franzen), and get into game shape. Allowing all of our prospects to be called up (rules?) and allow them the right to actually play in the league that drafted them. They were drafted to be NHL players, correct? Maybe I'm delusional, but you can't produce NHL talent at the AHL level? (Brendan Smith) That's like planting seeds for a tomato plant, expecting bell peppers. It's seems like obvious mismanagement, at the multi-million dollar level. The payroll of the injured is most likely higher than the payroll of the dressed(verification?) They just don't match up with the rest of the league. We have skill guys to support our skill guys, and defensive forwards to support the skill guys that are supporting the skill guys. The rest of the league is filled with skill guys, fighters, grinders, playmakers, defensive guys, power guys, speed guys. The Red Wings perfectly represent the city that houses them; old outdated philosophy; rebuilding on the fly but not really changing much thus not really rebuilding; great potential but lacking great action; medium to high risk, medium to low reward. Babcock has the hardest job of them all. A Canadian with the goal to motivate, give direction, fill potential, and create a respectful atmosphere to a group of Europeans, to please the American market. Anyways, back to the topic.... I don't really expect more than 20 shots on net, maybe 1 or 2 fluke goals. Anaheim always plays Detroit the same way. It's up to them how far they want this season to go. Heart, determination, and a sense of urgency would sure make this season a little bit easier to watch.

Can anoyone stop the Red Wings...... from tainting a 20 year legacy?

Cleary- Cleary- Cleary Cleary-Cleary-Cleary Cleary-Cleary-Sammy Jurco-Datsyuk-Bert

maybe someone on the lightning will take a run at him and no one on the team will do anything about it.

blame Howard for this one guys.. EDIT: Howie is stuck in the gustavson role from last year. "You didn't play well in that last game so we're not gonna give you consecutive games to get consistent. We'll only play you in the venues that our team somehow plays like s*** everygame (home games this year)" Gus has been stellar, but it's always refreshing hooking up with your girlfriend, but in the end, you always conclude that your wife is better and that you made a huge mistake.

if i could switch lives with any one person. Pavel Datsyuk.
-
Red Wings would be really good at non contact ice sports. (eg figure skating, curling)
-
Im over anyone blaming Howard. Just silly. Our D is young (sucks) and our forwards can't win battles, (physical, or skilled). Build a 4th line around a guy that will body gaurd, and a guy that will hit relentlessly, we can obviously make 3 solid skill/scoring lines. I'll take Emmerton or Glendening over Andersson anyday (guy's a total wimp). Flyers made us look silly, and it was relatively easy for them to do so. The wings show flashes of brilliance. but once a team goons the game up, theres no more brilliance. On another note, Dan Cleary is atrocious. Sammy isn't far behind.
-
I feel bad for Weiss. He's so far behind. Playing with Sammy and Cleary has made him slow, and totally non offensive minded. And here he is, thrown on the first line expected to make up for the entire first line being injured.

Do Quincey and Smith have a future in Detroit?
CMatt89 replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
I wouldn't be sad to see both Quincey and Kindl be traded this deadline. (pipe dream i know) But Kronwall, E, Smith, DeKeyser, Lashoff, plus the likes of Sproul, Oulette, Almquist (not ready) and everyone else that's down there. Add a gritty veteran somehow, and we have a pretty solid D corps. Edit: Smith absolutely has a future here. At times last game, himself and Karlsson didn't look to different on the ice. That's pretty exciting. -
Who else would it be? For real though, what other Swedes would qualify? I'm drawing a blank.
-
Drop Cleary and Sammy, add Datsyuk, Bertuzzi Reunite the first line, Helm Franzen Alf, Tatar, Weiss, Nyquist Andersson, Miller, Abdelkader. Swap in Dekeyser for Quincey. 3 lines that can score, and a 4th line that wont get scored on. It's a good dream.

Leaf Ericsson.. depending on your accent.

They need new uniforms. One's with extended jerseys, appearing as dresses.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Mostly Datsyuk. He's IMO the best and most exciting player to watch in my quarter of a century year old history. (I was at the Feds 5 goal game, playoff games, skated with feds, watched Yze, all the HOF'ers) I judge this by his mindfulness, humbleness, witty rusglish (russian english) and his ability to continue to do things that make everyone question themselves as humans. Even at his old hockey age he's still the best player in the league and on face book he's really good at catching over sized fish!. When he's retired I'll never watch hockey again. EDIT: I'm also thankful for Dan Cleary. Constantly reminding me that I'm still very young, and very able.
-
All that praise Mr. Rules Shanny gave Datsyuk on thursdays telecast, only to have him knocked out with a headshot that goes un noticed. Conspiracy.
-
without Deke, we still have 6 d-men. Now we have the exact same team as we did last year before with landed DeKeyser.
-
Good players can play with anyone. Zetterberg or Datsyuk still produce when playing together or split up. Can't say that for anyone else on the team.
-
Smitty and Deke are the future of this D corps. Learn to respect it.

Overtime modifications on table at GMs meeting.
CMatt89 replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
Ken Holland must be sick of losing in shootouts, now he has to change the rules so he can win with the likes of Dan Cleary and Mikeal Samuelsson and Kyle Quincey in the lineup every night. -
A new strategy, screw the prospects in GR. Load up with some many low end forwards that we have to send them to GR thus, not allowing even more prospects to play.
-
I understand where you're coming from, but prospects to the red wings are like old guys to other teams. They really mean nothing until they mean something.
