    Holland Targets Gritty 4th Liner

I hope Abdelkader turns into the McCarty-Maltby fusion they seem to be molding him into. Get a gritty guy along side him and we got a pretty dangerous 4th line.

Winnipeg could get revenge on Bettman

To make money, you have to have fans. To have fans, don't try to find cold weather sports fans in a desert. Phoenix, Florida, Nashville, Atlanta...Get rid of them. Too many teams means too many medium quality players which brings continuously lousy teams, which brings in no money. Less teams..in better cities, means more money, and true fans. Remember exciting hockey? Teams that should be removed or relocated (original location) from the league: Columbus, Nashville, Florida, Tampa Bay, NY Islanders, Carolina, Atlanta Winnipeg, Hamilton, Quebec could see new teams. 26 teams, 13 per conference. Home and Home with each team in opposing conference (26 games) 2 home, 2 away games with each team in conference (52 games) remaining 4 games would be extra intra-divisional games. Fans will get to see every team at least twice. Wishful thinking is fun! Too bad it'll never happen Also, with less teams...That means less players in the league, which also means the skill level will rise in both the NHL and AHL. Teams will be better, players in minor leagues will be better suited for pro's with a more skilled talent pool in the minors to help with development. Imagine a league filled with a balance of skill and heart and soul players? Violence in hockey could decline due to skill, talent, and hard work being more of a key factor in getting to the NHL. Instead of having teams with 4 or 5 stars on their team and having teams with none...it will balance out. There is too many AHL level players packed on teams, while other teams are jammed with money hungry stars. I think less teams would be greater then a salary cap. Also, too many teams miss the playoffs each year...too many teams continuously miss the playoffs each year as well.

What Was Your Favorite Game This Season?

The game against Vancouver where Zetterberg backhanded it over Luongo's glove. I think it was 2-1. The crowd was alive. Felt like a playoff game.

WCSF Game 5 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Sharks 2

Poor showing. I miss the days where Mac, Malts, Draper, Yezerman and Shanny, were standing up on the bench, firing their team up, playing with heart, throwing weight around, shooting, going all out. A little less skill, a little more heart should be the off season strategy. Howard had a great rookie year. A few bad goals, but, he's a rookie, he's supposed to play like a rookie. Tonight, he played fantastic. Hope he comes back stronger next year.

they should be embarrassed. The Wings and the NHL. The refs suck, but the Wings are sucking a little more

    Pens get lucky AGAIN

Whats the point here? They are the best all round team in the East. They're offensively and defensively sound. No other team in the East has that. So, are you saying its unfair that they are good? How many times have we heard how Detroit has the weakest division in the league so its not hard to win every year. It pays to be good. Bottom line. I'm no Pens fan by any means, but face facts, they are scary good, without or without the refs on their side. While we play San Jose they play Montreal, whats the issue? Its unfair that we finished as a lower seed so we have to play a better team now? So its unfair to the rest of the league that the Wings had to play lower teams every other year because they finished first? I don't understand your rant here, sorry.

I don't think our awful powerplay could score on our even more awful penalty kill

WCQF Game 3 GDT: Coyotes 4 at Red Wings 2

Rafalski, Lidstrom, Kronwall, Franzen and Cleary are my five for the biggest letdowns so far this series. Howard is a rookie, can't blame him for playing like one either. When your defense is awful, a rookie goalie can only do so much, or so little. A+ for Z, Dats, Bertuzzi, Fil, Abdelkader. Why is Drew Miller still in the lineup? He's awfully non existent. I mean, at least hit...don't do nothing when your on the ice. Doan had more of an impact off the ice then our top guys did while on the ice. They picked it up, Detroit got sloppier. Congrats on two strong wins for the Yotes.

3/11 GDT: Wild 1 at Red Wings 5

Maybe Zetterberg should be put on Datsyuk's line with Holmstrom to get them both going. Zetterberg obviously is struggling at his center position, adding a playmaking winger wont make Z any less tired then he looks. Put him on wing and I bet they score.

well look what happens when they skate and shoot

3/7 GDT: Red Wings 5 at Blackhawks 4

Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Bertuzzi...any player in the NHL will be successful if they MOVE THEIR FEET. Stop floating, stop trying to make a fancy play, stop trying to do it all yourself. Stick to the basics. Pass>Skate>Setup>Shoot>Rebound>Skate>Defend. I'm sick of the lazy plays, the lazy turnovers, the lazy shots, losing battles. Sammy,Hudler > Bertuzzi,Williams,Miller . This Wings team is Lazy and they suck!

    Stefan Liv

He was really immature I would read. The britney spears paint job on his helmet. He was just...not a solid goaltender.

    Pre-Olympic Trade Deadline Talk

what big changes were people preparing for? The guys that are tradeable have NTC's and then we have a bunch of odds and ends that no one would want. I don't know what the build up was for. Now that someone is on LTIR, we don't have to make moves till the deadline, which means Lebda will be moved. Big changes? Not until the offseason.

    Kronwall out, Holmstrom doubtful

He needs to play with his head, and not his adrenaline. I wouldn't say careless... misjudgment maybe.

2/11 GDT: Sharks 3 at Red Wings 2 (SO)

I can't wait to see Meech and Lebda out of the lineup. Our D is so weak right now. I bet all the guys can't wait for this break (both Olympians and non) Z and Dats need to be split up. They need to start preparing for playoff hockey, instead of taking backwards steps. I think we'll see a completely different team with a completely different attitude in 2 adn a half weeks. Keep this one close SJ -5 Det- 3

You can't fault a guy for trying to make plays. Its not like anyone else is stepping up..

    Kronwall out, Holmstrom doubtful

I think it's great Franzen may play in the olympics...It gives him 2 weeks of top notch competitive hockey. Better than not playing for 2 weeks..

Could Williams be the one traded by Friday?

Lidstrom would never want to leave Detroit, how can you even say that? The difference between Bourque and Lidstrom is that Lidstrom doesn't need anymore trophies. Bourque on the otherhand never had a cup and was coming to his final stretch. Once Holmstrom is back, our top 2 lines can get some chemistry, finally. Let Maltby play in the playoffs alongside of Filpulla and Miller..even though I don't see Miller doing much after the team is fully healthy it would be a solid dump and chase, back checking line. Williams is dead space. Sure Holland wants him on the point and for shootouts...but, when he's not scoring (often), he's useless. And with shootouts, he does the same move everytime...he always has and come playoff time.....shootouts are irrelevant. No one is gonna pick him up, i say waive him. This style of defense they are working with needs to be traded. Obviously 2 poor defensive years isn't enough to start adjusting the system.

Wings To Make Another Move This Week?

thanks for discussing. I don't think Miller will continue to impress as the season comes to a close. He was a good fit for the style of play that was implemented due to injury. With a full lineup, I didn't know about Cleary's NTC nor would I like to see him go, but, him with a prospect (Kindl) could be used as decent pieces to a nice package deal. It's not gonna happen (because of the NTC)...but, it's fun to play Ken Holland like everyone does on here. Who knows how Kindl will play in the big club... I hope they don't move Ericsson like I've seen a few people on her mention. They need to let him play his own game. Let him fight more, let him sit in the box a little more so he won't be over or misused during games leading to silly turnovers. He's a good 3rd pairing guy thats likes to get a little reckless. Let him be that guy. He's huge, use his body to your advantage.

Wings To Make Another Move This Week?

-Miller and May waived -Meech possibly (I doubt he would get much in the trade market, if anything) or -Trade or Waive(doubtful) Lebda. (only reason to keep is experience over Meech) or -Trade or Waive(last resort) Williams Another thought, with Kindl on the rise, maybe Holland does go for a big move at the deadline that includes Kindl and Cleary (along with Williams and/or Lebda) and getting a rental or a prospect or decent draft picks. Even though Kindl seems promising and most likely will never be moved for a rental, he looks good on the trade market. Also, with the possibility of Lidstrom retiring, maybe they are looking to clear up even more space to get a big named defenseman (since Kronwall can't be relied upon to lead the defense) and/or a big named winger in the off season. -Lilja on the move at the deadline if plays a good few games? hard to imagine, but he is a cup winning veteran, also a huge risk rental for a contender..
