If Bertuzzi ends up going cheaper than Florida hopes for, with conditional picks, it would take some of the risk out of the trade. I don't know if we'll be able to meet the demands for Guerin, and it would be painful to give up a lot and have him return to St. Louis in the offseason (if the trade doesn't make a big impact). I actually think Bertuzzi would have a better chance of re-signing, though it's all just speculation, of course.

It would probably take more than that, considering he's locked up for another 3 years. If teams are trying to get two first rounders or top-level prospects for rentals....I don't want to think about what Jokinen would cost.

Just curious....who made the backpass right in front of our blueline that led to the Oiler's applied pressure (and third goal)? I couldn't tell if it was Lang or Williams, but my gut says Lang with his habit for making untimely, blind backpasses. Both had a terrible game. As someone said, Cleary was much improved as soon as he was moved to the 3rd line. I'm more worried about Lang right now, he played just as bad as Williams.

Er...the top 4 in last years playoffs wasn't even as he said (Lidstrom, Kronwall, Schneider, Chelios), was it? I seem to remember Lilja being in the top pairing and Chelios in the 3rd pairing. Markov in place of Lilja alone would make the defense better than last year's playoffs. Yes, Calgary and Anaheim probably have a better top-4 than us. Guess what? They have a better top-4 than 27 other teams, too. This guy is crazy if he thinks we need to acquire another top-4 defensemen before the deadline. With what is likely one of the top-3 defense corps in the league, our need for a top-6 winger is much great at the moment.

You're overreacting. Who cares about the power rankings? It seems like the teams that are underestimated are the ones that have been advancing in the playoffs anyway. I don't know why you're upset over the use of "leapfrogging". I've heard them use that before, usually when the other team is idle. Kind of like playing leapfrog, one person has to sit still That wasn't a special article for the Preds, it was the game recap.

I wonder if we would be able to resign Bertuzzi, I have to think he's still going to command a lot of money. I'd support trading for Bertuzzi, but I'm not sure it's worth giving up Hudler as part of the package. Hudler might never develop into an impact player, but I'd hate to give him up for a rental and give him no chance.

Zetterberg, in my opinion. I don't think anyone believes Datsyuk will be traded at this point in the season, especially considering how that line has been producing. I wouldn't count on Datsyuk taking much less than his agent has been asking for, but I hope he'll resign if it's for a reasonable amount.

That doesn't make any sense. Then the Preds would be paying less to get more in return. I've heard that the 3rd rounder becomes a 1st rounder nstead if Forsberg stays in Nashville. Nothing about the conditional pick is confirmed yet, however.

I think there is confusion because Zetterberg HAS been centering the line (for the most part) since they were reunited. Datsyuk has almost exclusively played wing, only coming in for the occasional faceoff when Zetterberg is thrown out.

There's a big difference between those two things. We're talking about intentionally hitting someone in the face with your stick. What our goalies have done is not in violation of the rules, nor is it a blatant attempt to hurt someone. Slashing someone in the face with your stick is reckless, and if not for the visor he could have been seriously hurt. Gritty play is welcome and there is obviously always risk for injury in hockey. However, there are penalties against things like slashing and spearing for a reason. Exactly.

I believe you're thinking of Jimmy Howard. I don't think I've ever seen people saying they can't wait until McDonald is the full-time starter. I don't think many people ever expect Joey to become the starting goaltender of the Wings. Howard was backing him up tonight. With that said, Joey played a great game against the Blues and didn't play bad against the Flames (despite the 3 late goals). He wasn't very good tonight, but neither were a lot of other players. Cut the guy some slack.

He was going to leave in the off-season, no way Phoenix was willing to pay what he was asking for. Nagy wants way too much for being an unreliable player (not that he doesn't rack up the points, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy). Phoenix must have decided were unlikely to make the playoffs and the deal would be the best they could get.

We won't be getting Doan. Nagy has been the likely candidate all year. He's been nothing but trouble when it comes to contract requests (especially considering his injury history). I'm glad we didn't pick Nagy up, I watched him (and Doan) a lot when I lived in Phoenix. Definitely not the kind of winger we need. Doan would be a nice addition, it's unfortunate he probably won't be moved. Good addition for Dallas, though.

Both of those reports about who was starting came from the Detroit News. Early they said it was Howard (and markov would be back) but later updated to say that McDonald would start (and no Markov). Perhaps they just assumed it was going to be Howard, but someone with Wings could have changed their mind. I wonder if the Dallas trade for Nagy had any impact on this. Maybe they want to give McDonald more playtime for the scouts. With the trade talks heating up, there is only so much time to showcase players. Yeah, McDonald isn't worth much on the market, but he could always be included as a minor part in a package. Howard is much less likely to be traded, so showcasing him isn't as important.

Considering how long ago it was, don't hold your breath. I don't think many games were even televised at the time. This was in the 50s I think.
