I had something similar happen to my computer recently, but luckily I didn't lose very many pictures because most were on photobucket. I did lose a bunch of other stuff though. I learned the hard way to save everything on something besides just the computer.

Are the pictures on photobucket, facebook, myspace, piczo, or anyplace like that? If they are then you won't lose them.
