Babcock is usually loathe to make snap decisions after a game (sometimes to a fault) so I dont think we'll see any changes in the line-up unless Detroit loses Game 4...then you might see him make a move.
-
Neither do i, and neither does Babcock...just look at what he did last night. He started Bert out with Flip and Franzen (two good defensive guys) and when he finally put Bert with Lang he moved Draper (good defensive guy) to play with them. The way I see it Babs wants no part of Lang and Bert together unless one of our best defensive guys is with them.

IMO Calder has been relentless on the forecheck and along the boards. Any puck possession the Lang line gets is mostly because of Calder getting in and on top of the D. He's been in front of the net as well. Frankly, Robert Lang has been awful and Samuelsson hasnt been much better, so you start playing 1 against 5 shift after shift and it's tough. Bottom line is IMO Calder is doing fine.

As someone said before, stick a fork in Lang. I know NeverForgetMac hates to hear it but Bob's ship has sailed. I hope this opens everyones eyes to what Lang has really been...outside of the Nashville series his playoff points have been as a PP specialist littered with seconday assists to go along with his atrocious play in the defensive end. Samuelsson is awful, but he at least forechecks...he at least skates!
-
Lang and Bertuzzi on the same line scares me to DEATH...especially going into tonite. Bertuzzi will need time to get up to the tempo of playoff hockey, and Lang seems like he cant/wont keep up with the speed of the game. IMO if Babcock puts Bert with Flip and Franzen it is a scathing indictment of where he feels Lang is at and gives me the impression early on he might feel like Bob is just washed up and cant play at the tempo Babs wants to play.

Rex has done well on forecheck...all Sammy would do is forecheck (something he's good at) and be responsible defensively...essentially what hudler has done. Hudler has done well but it's not like he's creating anything offensively that Flip and Franzen would miss.
-
That Lang is long gone my friend. Lang has looked washed up alll season and looks even worse with the higher tempo of playoff hockey. Lang will remain in the line-up because his name is Robert Lang, that's it.
-
I'd simplify the game even more in the Saddledome....get the puck out quick, dump the puck in and forecheck the hell out of the Flames D. Keep skating.
-
Shawn hit it right on the head on the postgame just now....if Detroit has any chance of winning it all Robert Lang has got to show a pulse. I just wonder does Lang have anything left.
-
Get Lang off the ice...he's so done it's sad.
-
Lang is getting absolutely ripped on Stoney and Wojo when they asked who should sit when Bertuzzi comes back. Out of every call each caller thought Lang should sit and basically said the same thing....he doesnt skate and he turns the puck over. Wojo was shocked at how big of a beef fans had with Bob. Curiously there was no mention of Samuelsson by any caller. I guess the Sammy hate is confined to the LGW board.

Guys like Clark, Commodore, Oliwa, Simon, Dononvan, Gelinas and Nieminen are gone. This is a different Flames team. Conversely, it's a different Wings team. Factor in that even if they had the players to get nasty, the new rules wont allow the Flames to maul the Wings like they did in '04. This series is far from over, but Detroit wont lose 4 games to Calgary because they were dominated physically.
-
If it was based on current play Lang would be sitting. Give me a guy who'll at least forecheck, back-check his ass off and play solid in his own end all night over a guy who doesnt take the right man coming back and gives the puck away all night.
-
The thread starter is stepping in very dangerous territory attacking a good man like Lang. Robert is a very cuddly man, almost teddy bear like. He's a gentleman always and has extended his hand out to young Hudler who resides in Lang's basement.
-
I know you love Hank but he's not 3 mill better than Pav. I could argue he's not even a mill better.
-
Why? IMO it's only the perception of Datsyuk as a skill guy that makes it seem outlandish to say Datsyuk is Detroit's best defensive forward. Let me ask you this...has Datsyuk done anything to prove otherwise? He's rarely out of position, he back-checks like a demon and leads the league in takeaways after being in the top 20 the year before. As I said, a case can definitely be made.
-
Are Draper and Zetterberg really better defensively....it's certainly debatable. Datsyuk has basically played Zetterberg's role since Hank went down and been just as strong on both ends of the ice. Datsyuk has been above average defensively for 2 or 3 years now and only recently has he received praise for his two-way work. Both get it done in different ways, both are dogged in their puck pusruit and back-checking. IMO both are equally as effective.
-
So Datsyuk hasnt shown you he's any better than Tanguay or Savard (who make 5 and 5+ respectively)? With all due respect, without Datsyuk this team doesnt sniff a division title, period. You can make a strong argument that he's turned into the best defensive forward on the team as well. If Datsyuk get's 6, i'm fine.
-
Someone will offer Briere upwards of 6 on the open market this summer...count on that, Briere will cash in. Datsyuk is a better all around center than Savard without question...try watching Savard and dont just focus on his numbers. Defensively he's a horror show. My point is you cant compare Briere and Datsyuk because both will make 6 or more after this summer.
-
If this board starts crying because Datsyuk get's over 5.5 mill, somebody better get the buckets because he's probably getting upwards of 6 a year.
-
You know...Franzen-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi would be an absolutely awesome line built for playoff hockey...I'm just sayin'....
-
Datsyuk has been a strong defensive player for at least the last two years.

What do we think about Bertuzzi replacing Holmstrom on the ZDH line?

I like the idea of those lines actually. I just dont see how it's unreasonable to think Babcock might go with Dats and Bertuzzi as a pair.....especially when Bertuzzi has spent no time with Lang. Plus let's face it, Bertuzzi isnt good defensively, and Lang is a horror show of turnovers and bad decisions at times. You put Lang and Bertuzzi together....I could envision that line struggling mightly in their own end. -

That was the point I was trying to make my good man. If Homer isnt doing his thing in front of the net and along the boards, he's a liability. He's not good with the puck, and his skating makes him vulnerable defensively. Homer is pretty much a one trick pony, but he obviuosly has great chemistry with Zetterberg.
