I dont appreciate how the threadstarter got killed for stating a fact....our 2nd line is at the point of being a liability and could potentially kill Detroit's playoff chances. I define slumping as creating chances but getting the bad breaks and bounces associated with "puck luck" and things working their way out. Lang, Williams and Cleary arent creating much at all offensively, and really struggle in their own end. IMO that's not a slump...that's a weak line that only provided offense when Cleary had a Sean Donovan-esque stretch where everything went in.

Analysis: Price for players Wings might want is going up quickly
RedRum #1 replied to Mighty Wings's topic in General
Glen Murray would be like re-aquiring Shanny....big body that stays on the outside. Murray may be even less of a physical presence than #14 had become over the last 6-7 years. -
This would NEVER happen, but I'd love to move Flip up to #2 center, just to give the team a different look with more speed, energy and effort out of that position. A ???-Flip-Sammy line with either the winger we aquire through a trade or Cleary could potentially be solid. I

There are D-men out there who arent as skilled as Schneider but would be better for Detroit's situation on the back end.
-
Schneider's playoff numbers against the Oilers did nothing to offset how bad he was defensively in that series. He is what he is...a gifted PP guy who can generate offense from the back-end. He's also a liability defensively who is prone to monumental gaffs and lapses in decision making, many times brought on by teams punishing him on the forecheck.

A one game regular season snapshot wont determine how teams gameplan for the Wings...the strategy for success against the Wings has been out since the early 90's.
-
Homeboy, the "Dead Wings" thing died at the beginning of the 90's. You do realize that before '97 Detroit had become one of the elite franchises in the league. At the very least in '95 Wings fans were talking about a Cup Final appearance. Leaf fans on the other hand......
-
Capped by Kyle Calder (who isnt the greatest skater) effortlessly beating Lebda to the outside....I couldnt believe it either. Philly looked like the fastest team in the league tonite beating Detroit wide at will.
-
Since we're just doing snapshots of each game at least Lilja was better than Lidstrom tonight.
-
Maybe a trade has already been swung and Forseberg leaves with the Wings after the game tonite. If not, maybe we could just leave Lang in Philly...either scenario works for me.
-
Lang has been decent in the playoffs aside from an excellent Nashville series 3 years ago. His performance looks better because Datsyuk, Shannahan, Hull, Zetterberg (until last season) ect. did absolutely nothing. Lang essentially made his hay on the PP against Edmonton...at even strength he (and Williams) struggled mightly at both ends of the ice.
-
Buffalo wanting Lang doesnt make sense. They have depth at center and more importantly.....is Robert Lang a Lindy Ruff kind of guy? I cant see that working out.
-
I have to see it to believe it. If Kronwall can continue playing like he did in the World's, fine. Before Fischer went down he was playing at an extremely high level, arguably the Wings best d-man. I havent seen Kronwall play nearly as well as Fischer did before he went down.

Certain elements of this trade make no sense.

This "grit", "heart" and "desire" the pro-Shanahan contingent is talking about is fleeting.....it comes and goes depending on Shanahan. My favorite Shanahan moment was when he pushed a Duck player out of the way and scored in O.T during the playoffs.....the problem is that's almost a decade ago. He rarely shows that strength or force in his game now. He's been invisible in the playoffs as many times as Datsyuk's been in the league. Shanahan represents the staleness that has come to personify the Wings right now. Even during his prime in Detroit he was never the physical presence a Tkachuck, Guerin, Bertuzzi or Neely were in their respective primes, but he was strong and nasty enough to compliment his offensive talent. That has all but gone. I'd rather move on and not bring Shanahan back under any number.
-
Datsyuk was on pace for 100 points before he got injured and hands down was every bit as deserving of (along with Zetterberg) being considered the teams best forward during the regular season. To say Shanahan contributed more is insane. Both had poor playoff performances, but an injured Datsyuk still played better than a healthy Shanahan, who did nothing. Paying Shanahan $4mill is ridiculous.

According to MLive, there is a comment from Davidson saying the Blues are out of the running as well. So Boston has apparently bowed out as well as the Blues. Guess that leaves Detroit......Holland will get his man after all. The saddest part is the fact Holland is still leaving messages to Shanahan and his agent telling Brendan how much the Wings want him back.
-
That Kahn's number.....like I said, I think he received some questionable info. I think Shanahan priced himself out of Detroit a while ago...Holland and Yzerman claiming Detroit wants him back at this point are just hollow gestures, because he's not about to get $4mill here.....I have to think Holland has some sense.
-
Not just more money, but $2 mill........a raise like that for a player turning 38 is unprecedented. That's why I think this number by Kahn is wrong.
-
That's certainly possible, but Detroit hasnt been linked to any UFA offers accept for Elias. Aside from that, there has been no mention (from local media or national) of them actively pursuing a Guerin or Parrish or anyone else considered to be top 6 winger that has signed.
-
The more I think about it, the more I believe Kahn received some bad information from his Red Wing sources. No other Wings "insider" is reporting that number. Unless Bendan has dirty pictures of Holland, you dont go from a stance of "small increase" to offering an increase of $2 mill.
-
Holland needs to consult Joe Dumars so he can learn that after a certain point you have to let a guy walk. Let's not put all the blame on Holland yet, because this could be Mike Illitch doing this.
-
This has to be a some sort of mix up....he has to mean Robert Lang.
