Who is your favorite all time player, AND your favorite active player?
swedishconnection replied to a topic in General
You guys are all too easy! Favorite all time? # 16 Vince Bellissimo! Center for Western Michigan Bronco's - team captain - leader in points from 2003-2005. Could save a game with a late goal or huge hit, all around player... fan favorite! Plus his little bro played in net in 2005-2006 while he was a Senior and someone (I believe it was Ferris State [oh how I loathe thee] took a run at little Daniel and Vince went nuts... skated from the red line... and had the BIGGEST body check I've ever seen in CCHA play. <--- Dont mess with Vince's little bro! Vince went on to play in NHL farm teams for Carolina, and Daniel was still playing at Western as of last year... tearing it up as one of the best goalies Western has ever seen. Favorite wing? I hate to admit it... as it seems to be the popular thing to say... but as many know, and many can attest to... Zata has been my favorite since seeing him pre-Red Wings. Everyone was touting Dats (still an awsome player and my g/f's fav) in 2003 and I was all over Z. Just struck me as having awsome potential... doing the little things that mean tons, plus having the touch. Zata is all time second-fav. Since I am a defenseman in real-life, I love Schnieds as the player I long to emulate. However - I am a left shooting left defenseman which puts me directly in the category of Lidstrom, who is my 4th all time favorite! GO WINGS! GO BRONCOS! -
**** PATS ON BACK **** I have never been so drawn to one internet site. People post things here before the news does. Then we get to break down evey trade, player, play, goal, miss, save, check, penalty, shot, line combo, stat and many more. Most people are all in good spirits, or at least have points that they will defend valliantly. Such passion, perseverence, and knowledge can only be brought to one place by the very best in administering (sp?). Try not to deflect praise... as it is truely warrented. LETS GO RED WINGS!! I thought I would be punching walls and cursing beyond belief today. I am proud of what we have achieved this year... both in the team and this site. Never have so many people been united under one banner of a team online, with inside jokes, tears, heartbreak, and domination. Quick quips back and fourth, humor, disagreement, props, and everyone's unique personality bring life to these boards. I for one will be lurking around... reading daily as I have for a season and a half, and posting where I feel it is beyond self-restraint. WE'RE PROUD OF YOU, RED WINGS! I BLEED RED FOREVER!

This is very true. But it does not excuse him of actions. If this hit is worthy of a one game suspension during the regular season, then the punishment is the same during the playoffs. Im tired of this crap about Pronger being a superstar. If Fitzpatrick would be penalized one game for the same hit on Homer, then Pronger should recieve the same. Hypothetically, If Mark Mowers slashed Tootoo and broke bones, then he should get a game. The same goes for Zetterberg or Lidstrom. The penalty should be for the action, not the players committing them. Our series vs. the Sharks could have ended without Homer back in the lineup. He would have been a huge loss for us if he had gone down with a concussion or worse off of the Pronger hit. Keep that in mind. One game to Pronger is less that what could have happened to us if Homer would have been out for the length of the playoffs. That is what is important to think about when taking into consideration what should be dealt to Pronger.

WCF Game 2 (5/13): Ducks 4, Red Wings 3 OT
swedishconnection replied to aflac9262's topic in General
I love that PP combination. Lids, Sammy manning the point... Lang on the left Half boards... Pavel bottom of right circle, and homer doing his buisness. We need a right handed shooter our there on the left boards to set up passes better. Thumbs up for the backdoor Pavel Play! -
Jack Johnson. I guess I'd have to pick him cause I am a fan of the CCHA and actually watch those games. Everyone else I really havent seen play. But when you watch Jack, he is on a totally different level than anyone else in the CCHA. He's got my vote... and thats HUGE coming from a Michigan State Hockey fan ! (Woot go State National Champs woot woot...)

GAME 1 (5/11) GDT: Ducks @ Red Wings - 7:30 PM ET
swedishconnection replied to aflac9262's topic in General
All I have to say is: AHHHHHHHHH!!!! And: Go Wings!!! I also feel that Dats and Zata have been idling in 4th gear and will soon kick it up to fifth or sixth gear, and score massive amounts of goals. Also, Bob needs to score. -
Yeah, because Calgary was a bunch of nancies wearing tutus. Obviously you havent met my good buddy Markov and everyone's favorite whipping boy turned idol Andreas "The Pain Train" a.k.a. Lilypads Liljia. These 2 will respond from the blue line if it starts gettin physical. No doubt. Oh and some Ducks fans have said that our blue line is weak. Noone gets to thier respective conference finals with weak D, so drop it already. On top of that, the wings have some of the best backcheckers in the league. Even pavel has been fantastic back in his own zone. So we may have taken a hit on D with Schneids out, but everyone is picking up the slack. The finnish flash is not to be underestimated, however. He has the wings number, and he will be running and gunning for us the whole series. Too bad we dont have Hatch to knock out a coupla his teeth (Olympics, anyone?) Finally, scoring this post season has been wonderful for the wings. Every line is producing, and in different and critical times. Who would have guessed that the Mule would have won in OT vs. Calgary? Or Lang singlehandedly turning the series around? (Or even scoring on a breakaway?) How about Sammy sealing the deal? Seriously.... SAMMY!? He was the flavor of the month for beat downs and verbal carnage here on the boards. The wings have what it takes, and should not underestimate a team with fantastic D, great goal scorers, and a goalie that has what it takes to get through most of the playoffs on different occassions. Its a grind, and the Wings have played extremely difficult teams the past 2 series. Hopefully we can capitalize on the fact that the Ducks have been sitting and have not played as many games (and may not, therefore, be as fresh). LETS GO RED WINGS!

Game 5: (4/21) Flames @ Red Wings - 3:00 PM ET

Im so friggin nervous. Im stuck at work, no TV, I dont have TIVO, and my work computer is so old that I cant update java to use the chat here on LGW.com. DOH. We need to come out firing on all cylinders. Its time, boys. Lets rock em. GO WINGS! -
I love this theory and have been saying it since early last week. Lebda is another choice, but his ability to keep the puck in the zone when it comes around on the boards / dasher is lacking. I think this is the main reason Babs hasnt put him out there for more time. Z can one-time with the best of them, and can out-deke any opposing pk guy that comes to challenge out high. This would cause the pk to stay down low, and that in turn would allow him to move in closer to the circle and drop it back to the point or cross-crease it for one timers. Great idea!

I AM GOING TO BE AT THE GAME TOMARROW!!! I am already getting nervous all over again. Calgary is not a team you under-estimate. They have pride, and they will come out defending it right out of the game come tomarrow. Detroit needs to do what theydid last game. Hit first. Charge into thier zone. Calm play down with control of the puck. Use all 4 lines. Use everyone to contribute. Do this and we will repeat last game. Calgary will come at us fast and hard, and this is not nap time for the wings. Game 3 will most likely be the pinnacle of the series, but this game is crucial for us. We lose, then its time to head into the saddle for 2 games. We all know what that means, time changes notwithstanding. We gotta hit 'em while thier down (figuretively speaking [except for Phaneuf... feel free to hit him as much as possible for that little extra he layed on my boy, Z] ). Go up another game on them, and the wings blow out the candles. GAHHH I LOVE PLAYOFF HOCKEY! Oh and some people say sit Bert. Why? he hasnt hurt us yet. No real glaring turnovers. Dont need to tell you that he's huge... why not put him out there to soften up Iginla, Phaneuf, and Regehr (sp.?) ? Plus then someone else gets to sit and rest for a game. GO WINGS!

Molson 12 pack [X] homecooked burgers [X] barbeque potato chips (RED) [X] big screen tv [X] pre game in 40min [X] playoff hockey.... PRICELESS!

For someone who speaks of grit and toughness above all else, I am shocked that you would quote Sound Of Music for use in a rough and tumble hockey thread

I only have one. The almighty Zata with the "A"--- RED. Yeah yeah, I know I got it recently... but I didnt have any scratch laying around cause I just moved to a new town and didnt have a job. Its one of my prized possetions. The only thing I dont like about it is that people assume that I just started liking Z because of the recency of the "A" on his jersey. I've loved Z for many years now, and it seems like he's getting a major following (which is great) but I was one of the orginals when everyone was talking Dats in 2002. Speaking of Dats.... Eurotwin has a matching red Dats to my Red Z. We wear them to every game we go to and every single game day. In fact, Im wearing mine now!

I hope to see a fantastic game tonite. Hopefully we just didnt show up for bottom feeding teams. However, we really do need to play a whole game tonite. I wasnt able to watch vs. the Blues, but I turned to my one-stop-shop for game information -- here. It sounded pretty horrible. Its the only game I missed watching this year... Anywho I hope we make up for it, and I wanna see more of BERT!

im at work the airport and our flight is delayed until 10pm. I thought I would be able to get off at 8 and then be home for the beggining of the game, now I will miss most of it..... crap. Anywho... GO WINGS! Hopefully the second line steps it up a bit, but I think the grinders (drapes, Franz, and Malts) are going to bury one. Lets make it a good one, boys!
