2/11 GDT: Flames @ Red Wings

Since when has Z had more career goals than Pavs? Wow. C'mon Joey Mac! Let's get the monkey off his back and take a sigh of relief.

    ok, besides...

With all this talk about a gritty winger, it makes me really confused. As much as I would like to see it, it doesn't really solve the wings problems of the past. 05-06 - Lost because Manny had a meltdown, Lilypads was in, and the wings, besides a select few, couldn't find the back of the net. The oilers were rediculously fast compared to us, and picked off our passes with ease. 03-04 - Lost because Kipper was a monster and pretty much shut down everything we had going. Again, no one really found the back of the net. 02-03 - Giguere was a beast too. Stopped everything that was coming at him. My point is, that we need great goaltending - CHECK. We need a SCORING winger - Now Hiring. If the player is gritty, thats a bonus at this point. However, we need a speedy, scoring winger first and foremost. Grit doesn't factor into the way the wings play nearly as much as puck retention. Edit**** Forgot to offer something other than a scoring winger. I too would also like to see an additional depth D-man. Markov is great when he's here, but we all know what happens when one of our guys is out... Thats right, Lils. I am enjoying our 4th line griffs boys at the moment. I think they will continue to contribute. (So dont break them up.) Our 3rd line of Malts, Drapes, and The Franz is great as a checking line. Just wish that we could get more offensively out of them.

    Yzerman food for thought

This is YZERMAN we are talking about here. Not Gretzky.

    Henrik Selke-berg?

Hank really could start getting the hardware! Selke is great... Knob Smythe is BETTER! "I'll have what he's having - Champagne from a giant silver cup with names on it...."

TSN: Red Wings interested in Bertuzzi

Oh and a sidenote with this thread. I was thinking about last summer when we all went nuts with the signing and whatnot. There would be articles about who the wings were interested in, and a lot of it was smokescreen for who we were really interested in. I'm beginning to wonder if they are generating the interest to shield what they are really looking at....

Ah. Now I see. Thanks NFM. I was wondering that all morning.

    We have no power play

^^^ They have more goals since December than Joey-T's line in San Jose. Briere's line has been falling off of late. Anyone else I'm forgetting? So currently yeah..... It is the best performing line in the NHL.

TSN: Red Wings interested in Bertuzzi

I am by no means a fan of Bert. He played for my most hated team - The Canucks. Even with that said : Why is something that happened between 2 teams that are NOT Detroit years ago a discussion point on why or why not we should trade for him? This is hockey, and the Wings and mgmt need to address what they are lacking for the playoffs. Seems as though a lot of people don't want him for what happened with Moore. Why is this even an issue? It should be "Is his back alright? Will he see his chance to win here in Det and clean up the stupid penalties? Will he fit into a more finesse and puck-possession style?"

    Hudler

Math does NOT = hockey. Filling in extra numbers with loose extrapolation does not equal reality. Besides, I would argue that it is not a linear calculation with developing theoretical points that he would earn with additional ice time. I would propose that it is more of a exponential argument. He is extremely productive with the low time that he recieves and that with additional time his production would fall off. I just think there is a fundamental flaw with using linear functions. Using the exponential ideas that I have offered are closer to reality, but make it much harder to calculate. Oww. My head hurts.

2/7 GDT: vs. Phoenix Coyotes, 7:30pm EST

EuroTwin and I will be at the game! Section 226B Row 12 Seats 19 & 20!! We will be wearing our jerseys - # 13 for Eurotwin and # 40 for me! Anyone else going to the game stop by and say hi! Oh and we are going to make a sign that says "Preserve the groin(s)!" Here's hoping we stick it to Whiney's team!!! Another Scneids hattie?

    Samsonov on Waivers

You could put Liljypads or Blueberry Muffin on that line and the offensive numbers would come.

    Red Wings skaters shooting R

I half-agree with the scientific analysis of the slapper. Its more that just bending the stick in the middle. The pulling back (in towards the body) motion with the top hand is extremely important. My right bicep (on the top of the stick) is far superior to my left. Thats where I develop power for my shot (besides the waist). My left arm is pretty much just providing a brace for the stick to bend at.

    Sean Avery traded to Rangers

Yeah I was thinking the same thing... Who else is he referring to? I just seem to be having a brainfart on who it could be ATM....

    Red Wings skaters shooting R

Sorta related to this, but even though I use a Lefty stick, I have an Yzerman blade.... go figure. Its just the best curve ever. Oh and WOOD RULES - OLD SCHOOL - NO COMP HERE

    Red Wings skaters shooting R

I thought the same thing when I first started, then my cousin (who plays league hockey) said I should try lefty cause most people on leagues use right (and I am right handed). Your dominant hand should be on the end of the stick because it gives your shot more power and the control stems from the top-down. I also went with lefty cause I am a Defenseman and when I poke check and reach - its just that much more controlled and accurate with my right hand on the top of the stick. That and when I'm on the point, my shot has that much more power when shooting a slapper, and my back-hand dump is much easier to lift.

    Henrik Zetterberg

<------ My Favorite player ever. If anyone saw the incredible replay... The one that was head on with Zata... He deked and then stared straight through the opposing players in front of him and right at the net. Without flinching, he immediately passed to Cleary (The Beast) whom he knew was there somehow mystically. Thats an assistant captain right there. He knew what he was going to do 3 moves ahead of anyone else out there.

SFE: Wings looking at 'star player' by deadline

I never want Bert or Forsberg. Fedotenko would be great, as would Nagy and Tucker, for different reasons. Fatty-McGee Chucky is okay, and Guerin is gettin up there (who am I to lecture as a Wings fan - we have Chelios!). Outta that list that is pretty much all I would take, oh or Vinny. But - we all know Holland's thinking patterns - we'll somhow end up with Lapointe simply because he's a former wing. It's not a problem with me... but he probably is past his prime. We dont need him to score tons of goals, just bring that extra edginess that we lack right now. Im more inclined at the moment to sit back, relax, and just relish who we get at the deadline instead of picking out of a hat

    Prospects

The shift(s) that he was given he skated hard, finished his checks, and showed some offensive ability and sight. He did make a couple AHL moves that didnt work in the NHL, but beyond that he really made me take a second look at him when he was out there.

    1. Kopecky 2. Flip 3. Ellis 4. Hudler (just not impressed, yet)

    met Danny Cleary today

Wow, its awsome that you pulled this thread up. Im sure it hurts to eat your words. Hindsight is 20 / 20, but the gritmasters really laid into Cleary-the-goal-scoring-pk-machine-pp-specialist. Overall though, I am really glad he is producing the way that he is. SOMEONE needed to in light of all the injuries and slumps.

Lang is Lazy and He Sucks

I dunno, but I am doing pretty well in the weekend picks and as far as Z being the best playoff performer last season, at least one person agrees with me. Chris Osgood : "He'll go through that in his career, and it might even be longer," Osgood said. "He's a great player and he's leading our team real good this year. He was our best player in the playoffs (last season) and that's more important than having a little drought early in the season. "There's not a burden on him. He's not going to win by himself." http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...0326/1128/rss16 but as I said before... I'm am still a Badass Bob fan!
