I defer to my avatar. Lang WAS the best playoff performer, up till this season

Errr.... Lang Zetterberg = Wings best playoff performer. I'm not merely looking at points. Still a fan of Badass Bob

Rumor: Holland talking to NJD about Gionta
swedishconnection replied to SwedeLundin77's topic in General
i like your argument, but i really am trying to look at the whole picture, too. this year is a band-aid year. the hasek pickup proved that. next year 3/4 of our team will be FA. NEXT YEAR will be the one to watch in terms of the offseason. So why not pick up a decent guy during a year that we could use a little extra oomph with goals? even if he is here for only a year, who cares? its not like we can carry over our extra cap space to next year (unless im mistaken). i would also be fine with using the roster we have now and picking up a good, right hand shot powerforward later in the season. thats coo with me. either way i dont really care. but who are we going to use the cap space on later anywho? just a rhetorical question, but i sometimes think it may just be better to set the team now and then call it done, but there is some wisdom to be had on sitting on it till later as well. wishy-washy enough for everyone? -
Rumor: Holland talking to NJD about Gionta
swedishconnection replied to SwedeLundin77's topic in General
im not really buying the fact that that is all Gionta will be going for, a high prospect and a 1st round pick. if he is, then why the hell not pick him up? weve got the cap space. hudler hasnt made too many friends with the guys running the show with the wings. he has work ethic issues. holland only wants to sign a guys to one year deals. perfect. hudler is tiny too, and would get pushed around in the big league. Let gionta fill hudler's (not guarenteed, but most likely) slot in the top 6 forwards. all were saying is that BG would fill hudler's slot for the upcoming year. +'s .... gionta has played in the NHL, scored shanny-esque numbers, and has playoff experience. -'s .... give up yet another 1st round pick. just armchairing it here... id say lets do it. but we all know that with holland managing this 1 ring short of a 3 ring circus he will pick up some obscure former wing again before he gets gionta. oh and one more match against RB!'s argument. i realize its not exactly the same, but if you are pushing the point of size across the board... Lebda or Cross? im out. -
Dumont MAY be headed to Detroit afterall?
swedishconnection replied to SwedeLundin77's topic in General
Sorry, what I meant was that the Habs were trying to make room for Dumont by dumping Komisarek and Bonk to the Islanders and THEN picking up Dumont. Currently they dont really have the cap room for him enough for the management to feel comfortable, I guess. My bad on reporting, Ill try to be better at explaining in the future. -

Eklund reports Komisarek and Bonk for Dumont. I would be sad to see Dumont go to another team, but I am still waiting to see what Kenny has in mind. (Probably nothing) -
Pitts has been salivating for this kid. For all we know they are the reason he's gone missing from finland. And that is a crapload to give up in order to recieve one unproven (in the NHL) player. I just hope the pens dont pull another crosby. That kid was touted as the best there will be, but he was outshined by Ovechkin. All I saw from Crosby was a player who got over inflated about who he was and started (I believe he was trying to fire up his team) but came across as a brat know-it-all telling his teammates what to do. I didnt know much about Ovechkin till the Olympics and he played with Pavel, but damn I like the kid. How could you not? My 10 cents.

Uhhhh.... tell me... why do we need ANOTHER DEFENSEMAN? Liljypads and Lebda not enough for ya? I seriously doubt we are picking up another D man. Our D is set.

In order to entirely save face, I totally and unoquivically renounce anything I have said previous about Ek. Turns out he was right, and I was not. Damn. Now the earth will orbit the moon right?
-
Thank God Eklund said it. That means that it will NEVER EVER happen. Just like it was guarenteed that we signed Belfour twice...

I do hope manny finds a job somewhere... he still had an undeniably good regular season.

this is the most sensible argument out of all of you. he is expensive, but I respect lang quite a bit. we do need a lot more physical of a defense, and i put my money on kenny looking to lang to cut some overhead in order to get a bigger force down low. as for the comment about having too many centers, i think it is best to have too many natural centers. theyre more flexible, able to take faceoffs and can play either side (left or right). when the line was pavel, Z, and lang, they are all centers but they were able to play just as wingers, while being able to take faceoffs no matter who was tossed out. just my thoughts on having a line of all centers...

BLASPHEMY! I cant believe so many people are seriously considering "dumping" maltby. He is one of a kind on the PK and created some (albeit not a lot during the regular season) offense. I honestly think that cleary played his heart out during the waning games of the season, but he was not up to the skills of the rest of the team. We need someone who can be a physical force out there in the offensive side. Franzen is still quite new to the NHL so I think that with another season or so he will be a formidable hitter and playmaker. Im tired of watching the wings and yelling because the players are just not physical enough. I love the finesse players and the jaw-dropping plays that they make, but to go deep into the playoffs we need somone to punish the opposition up front, and behind. Cleary just couldn't cut it, but i did admire his spirit. anyone have any other ideas of who to fill his spot? I am guilty of saying his name that way when i talk, too. its just easier to say (or yell at the top of your lungs when he drives it home )
