[GDT] 9/26 - Detroit Red Wings @ Toronto Maple Leafs

Yeah, I tried that. Unfortunately they have some crazy slick device that prevents us 'Yanks from eating up all the delectable Hockey offered. I should just become a draft dodger who seeks a "terribly slow and inefficient" health care system just so that I can catch some games. (apparently, thay are the only people that would EVER leave the US for Canada, according to Hillbillies.)

Holy Schnikies did I miss GDT's. I know its in a different topic but are there streams available for tonite? There may be people that want to know that avoid vague titles that may refer to last nights game...

    [GDT] 9/19 - Sabres, 3 @ Detroit Red Wings, 1

Hey, they just had the Arby's commercial on. Are they doing the Hattrick thing again this year? If so its a curse and no one will get a trick this year!

    Kessel traded to Leafs

Done and done. For the years I have been reading Mack's posts, they have always been insightful and critical. I consistently learn about intricate parts of contracts and trades that I normally wouldn't have thought about or cared about. The challenge to think about them and how they effect the overall hockey picture has been one of the best parts of the posts the he (I am assuming) contributes to the forums and one of the most entertaining for me. Just sayin. There is a reason that Mack keeps posting, and it starts with why the Wing's fanbase more often than not some of the most hockey intelligent and welcoming of others. I personally take pride in this and this is why I have been posting for years here. I would rather read an informed Leaf's opinion than some of the detritus that comes out of our own base.

how do you use the mediaplayer one? do i just click on the link at gametime and I get to watch the game thru the Internet? or is there a program that I need to DL to get it to work? I REALLY REALLY want to watch this game, but I am on my Brother's campus this weekend and they block all P2P programs. Any help is really appreciated.

    Jason Williams

I am just worried that once J-Willy bobbles a puck at the blueline on the PP, or gets beaten on the backcheck during an error on the PP that these boards will implode again and most people wont be able to see past said error and will harp on him endlessly just like Sammy. They cant all be Conn Smythe's, Norris's, Selke's, Rocket's.... etc. What we need him to be is a solid player that contributes as much as possible, with as much limitations on errors as possible. What we need from ourselves is to accept that he aint perfect, and to expect those errors; but remembering that we will still be at the top of the totem pole in standings in the West. He cant single handedly take us out that far.

Create a line-up that you would hate to play against.

Wrong. Pronger. Why do you think that we all giggle a little to ourselves when we talk about the fact that Pronger was traded to Philly, then signed an extension? Because we wont have to deal with him nearly as much in the coming years. (until playoffs, perhaps.) Pot, Meet Kettle. No offense, but many people (fans of other teams mostly) were saying that about Detroit 2 years ago. Just page through the threads during the 08 Playoff Run.

Canucks sign veteran D Mathieu Schneider

HOWE: GP G A Pts PIM Playoffs: GP G A Pts PIM 929 197 545 742 455 101 10 51 61 34 Schneider: GP G A Pts PIM Playoffs: GP G A Pts PIM 1264 221 513 734 1229 111 10 43 53 155 Schneider = 0.17 goals per game Schneider = 0.41 assists per game Schneider = 0.5 points per game over 1200 games Howe = 0.21 goals per game Howe = 0.59 assists per game Howe = 0.80 points per game okey dokey. Howe obviously wins. Playoffs though- dont I have an argument? 51 points versus 43? What about pm's in the playoffs? doesnt that mean that hes "tough"? (Im kidding) I rescind my previous comment and grovel for forgiveness. When was the last time someone admitted incorrect assumptions on LGW? I dont really care. I just hink that Schneider was a decent d-man and was extremely sad to see him go.

Alright, Alright... I lost it there momentarily with the rosies. Suter, Leetch, and possibly B-Raf. --> Mark Howe? Really? Can I ask for your arguement? (Im thinking I missed something.)

Will Zetterberg Score 40 This Year?

You realize that when Dats and Z are on the same line that Z is the center and Dats is the winger?

Canucks sign veteran D Mathieu Schneider

Schneider is still one of my favorites. I have watched his career and learned about his past since he has been here. I think people remember - Seriously, I cried the day he left. I was the one with the crazy Jewish threads on Hannukah for him, and was arguing that he was a major loss, even though somepeople hoped it as a bulldozer instead of the door that hit him on the way out. I have still been scrounging enough cash to make my own Schneids sweater.. to no avail. Still like the way he plays. Name a better American Defenseman other than Chelly. Love the pearly whites. Go Schneids. Sincerely, your most irrational fan. EDIT: (Kelsey) Grammar.

    Cooke kicked Osgood?

2 Things - The first stick to the nose of Staal was because Ozzie was sweeping the puck and Staal came from behind to chase after it. It was inadvertant that the Knob (thats right I said KNOB!) hit him in the schnoz. Ozzie lost his stick on it from the great forecheck by Jordan. NOT DIRTY - just a hockey play. Second - I dont care what anyone says here- but the elbow by Sammy to Staal's head in the crease was dirty. Noone caught it, but sometimes that happens. STILL DIRTY tho.

    Does This Feel Different?

I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way. However, I take a que from Babs and just keep thinking about how tough the series will be. I just dont like this in-between time before the game. I think after game 1 we will have a much more accurate understanding of the matchup.

Mike Milbury- "get (refs) out of playoffs"

56.1 Interference - A strict standard on acts of interference must be adhered to in all areas of the rink. Body Position: Body position shall be determined as the player skating in front of or beside his opponent, traveling in the same direction. A player who is behind an opponent, who does not have the puck, may not use his stick, body or free hand in order to restrain his opponent, but must skate in order to gain or reestablish his proper position in order to make a check. A player is allowed the ice he is standing on (body position) and is not required to move in order to let an opponent proceed. A player may “block†the path of an opponent provided he is in front of his opponent and moving in the same direction. Moving laterally and without establishing body position, then making contact with the non-puck carrier is not permitted and will be penalized as interference. A player is always entitled to use his body position to lengthen an opponent’s path to the puck, provided his stick is not utilized (to make himself “bigger†and therefore considerably lengthening the distance his opponent must travel to get where he is going); his free hand is not used and he does not take advantage of his body position to deliver an otherwise illegal check. Possession of the Puck: The last player to touch the puck, other than the goalkeeper, shall be considered the player in possession. The player deemed in possession of the puck may be checked legally, provided the check is rendered immediately following his loss of possession. NHL RULEBOOK A side note: 21.1 Match Penalty - A match penalty involves the suspension of a player or goalkeeper for the balance of the game and the offender shall be ordered to the dressing room immediately. A match penalty shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who deliberately attempts to injure an opponent in any manner. A match penalty shall be imposed on a player or goalkeeper who deliberately injures an opponent in any manner. SO, with the leeway the refs get to properly judge a game, they decided that Kronwall deliberatly attempted to injure Havlat....

    Datsyuk is a gametime decision

With all of those NHL games under his belt, who wouldnt understand? No one can doubt his skills, and hopefully his skating has improved. This game will be moving faster than anything he's played. Im hopeful he plays his game and continues to do well. But lets not do the horse and cart thing.

    Ericsson's Number Next Year

Aktuali..... Zata wore 20 for Timra Red Eagles, then 15 during the Rookie camp, then doubled his original # from Timra since it was retired in his honor, and therefore has worn 40 for DET ever since. Theres videos of his interviews in his first 2 years with someone asking him this exact question. Sorry, Im a Zata-Fanatic.... ***EDIT*** Since this is about B-52 Bomber... I think he should keep the # he has. If he chooses a different # then I am all for it. As long as he chooses a number that he will wear. If not, then Sweater sales will be down next year. We shouldnt have to blame a hockey player for the economy's failures.

Dan Cleary gets a little redemption

Thats why its so hard, the fact is that if it was reverse, it would suck. Call the game true, call the game even... Either way the wings come out ahead on this one.

    Where is Hossa?

Besides all of the pissing matches going on, there is somewhat a reasonable debate to be made. Against the Columbus series, watching Hossa was kind of hard. He made some really strong moves with the puck against a markedly weaker playoff team. It worked. Against the Ducks thus far he has been working his rear off. Problem is that he is not making the strong moves anymore in the Offensive zone. On the other hand, he has been extremely dilligent in the Defensive zone- something that is great to see. However, to me it just seems like he is being too tentative. He is playing strong in the defensive zone, and backchecking like mad. The only issue is that he needs to do that due to some poor judgment on his part in the offensive zone. He continues to do the drive to the Offensive zone, stop 5 feet inside thier blue line, and hold the puck and wait for something to happen. If Homer cannot catch up and Pavel is covered, he does not dump the puck. He consistently tries to move it down the boards where he gets sealed off and has turned it over. This has been happening on both the Left and Right wing boards. THEN that is when he kicks it into high gear, rushing back to our zone to backcheck like a demon and be awsome defensively. I appreciate the commitment to Defense. However his play Offensively needs to turn up. I'm not talking about stats. Im watching the games and he is not really making anything happen. He has that rare ability to take over, and so far he has been so concerned with not doing anything bad that he is not taking the risks that turn into offensive production. In all, I am not worried. I dont know about the rest of you, but I have trust in Hossa. He has a whole 'nother gear that we have yet to see. I just hope that he hits it before the Wings are down 3-2 games.

    Rafalski OUT tonight, Chelios in

I just hope we get the "Strong down low" Chelli and one of the "I cant make a decision to block the guy in front of the net or go in the corner" Chelli. Maybe its not his decision making, but there are many times when you see him kind of in between. Maybe its his legs? Not what they used to be? Anywho- Hopefully B-52 Bomber has a great night to instill even more confidence. Playing with Nick will allow him to take the rush a bit more.

    New Faces, Old Hate

Duck Guy, I have never addressed you on these boards, but I must say from a lot of us on the boards it is really refreshing to have a great fan of hockey here! I know your a Ducks fan, and really respect your opinions as they come from a really insightful angle. I loee reading your posts because they usually have a different vantage point, and sometimes I can really have on the rosies. That being said, I dont think that it is underestimation. I think that what you are witnessing is a culmination of rage from 2 years ago, that has simmered. In addition, (From my point of view) it didnt help that a lot of people said last year that you "Should have to go through the raining champs to win the cup". Obviously that didnt happen, so it kinda took (ever so slight) away from our Ultimate Prize last year. If you think that the Wings are going to be the same team in this series that they were even against Columbus, chances are thats not going to happen. This team has a long memory, a lot to prove in this series alone. The majority of this team is still together from the embarressment of 2 years ago. This series will wake up this team like nothing else. Babs and co. will make sure of that. The player's pride will take over. Trust me, this team will have an edge. This is not to say that the Ducks will roll over and die. They wont. Excuses fly about our battered D from that long ago as well. No-one talks about the fact that our second line was Lang and Bertuzzi. Even if we got past the Ducks, that second line was not producing any where near potential. If that wasnt an issue, then I guess putting it on the absence of Kronner and Schneids will work. ****** First line matchup- MegRyan/Getslapped/StevePerry - Homer/Dats/Hossa Needavacation / Wizonme - Lids / B-Raf Wow- Typing it out kinda makes me worried. That forward line matchup is kinda terrible. Almost makes Homer a liability. Makes you wonder if Babs will go with Mule/Z/Cleary vs thier top line. That would be a much better matchup. Its going to be a tough one. I dont see any broomsticks around this one. A little adversity may just be what the doctor ordered. Now I am glad we had the extra time to take off.
