Havent seen this posted yet, but NHL network is saying that Tuomo Ruutu (The better player of the 2 Ruutu's) has signed with the Carolina Hurricanes for 1 year. Who do I want it to be? Obviously Zata. Its hard for me because for the last 4 years I have loved Zata. My avatar has changed over the years from being Zata with "Conn Smythe 06" to "Conn Smythe 07" to "Conn Smythe 08" and now he is so close but Ozzie is abseloutly fantastic. Something to ponder for the future: Will they retire Ozzie's jersery? The guy has how many Cups with D-Town? How many playoff wins? Overall save %? Not jackin the thread but I think somone will have to take a close look. Passing Sawchuk really opened my eyes. Different era, I know... but dont they look at stats when they think about things like that?

I cant believe I am about to say this... Sammy is a decent player down low. He forechecks reletlessly, gets his stick in traffic areas, and can make the occassional nice pass. HOWEVER--- He is completely terrible on the point. Turnovers, dekes when he should have dumped, etc. All have been covered here. I wince everytime he is the one down low in the defensive zone on the PP and Kronwall is up high with a strong forecheck coming in from the opposition. And to answer the questions about Chelly on the point on the PP-- Babs has consitently had him on the PK but not the PP. Obviously he wants to keep Chelly fresh for the task of shutting down the other team's top PP line. He's not Lids- he doesnt have enough gas for both. Secondly, has anyone seen Chelly's shot from the point? Its very, VERY hard. But where Sammy can aim directly at the goalie's chest pad on an extremely consistent basis, Chelly is the exact opposite. He will hit the glass, or the protective netting, or one our players, or a Dallas Ice girl, the guy in row 26C with the hot dog with too much mustard, etc...

I miss Schneids. He didnt dick us as many people think. He wanted to get back to Cali, and he was offered more money. I know Lids is the god of hockey and took less to stay... but not everyone can be as perfect as a captain of the Wings. That aside, F#ck the half ass Ducks. Thats what you have when your 2 superstars only play half a season. That and that is actually the scientifically calculated amount of ass they put into playing in the series against Dallas. I have never been so happy and taken so much pleasure in with watching something crumble so badly as the Ducks have this season. I wish I could go deeper into the shared mutual feelings towards the majority of the players on that team, but I would be taking this beloved Wings forum and turning it into a Duck-bashing one. I just needed to vent a bit, and this has helped. Any one else feel as if Calgary is more scary a partner than the Sharks? I know I do. I hope the Sharks make it through. Dan Cleary kills penalties. Can't remember last time I saw Homer do that... Dan Cleary is putting up those numbers on the second line, and they are comparable to Homers (whos on the First). He should get paid marginally more than Homer, because he is more valuable in the sense that he can be on the ice 5o5, Shorthanded, and PP. Dont get me wrong. Look at my screenname. I love Homer. However, I would be hard pressed to digest an argument that Homer is more valuable overall than Cleary.

Why do a lot of people just hear the name Ducks and think that they are the team best built for the playoffs this year? They are minus Selanne, Penner, and McDonald. They have added Weight, Bertuzzi, and Schneids. They got older, slower, smaller (Schneids), and less hungry (after all, the rest of the team did win it all...). They also got less deep in net, with Giggy being the only line of final defense. If he tweaks a leg, gets hit in the wrist, gets his tie stuck in the airplane toilet, whatever... they are S.C.R.E.W.E.D. Point is I am not a blind homer. I know they can still ice a strong team. They win games with crushing defense, 1-0 or 2-1. However I just dont see how the team they have this year is still the team that can steamroll the Sens in the SCF. Or overturn the Wings in the WCF. The only bright spots are the growth and realized potential of Getzlaf and Perry (oh how I loathe him). My man Schneids can still bury it once in a while, but without Lids and our forward core feeding him, ANYONE's point totals would decrease. And lets not forget, the man aint gettin any younger. My final point, they just arent the same team they were in April last year. I just dont understand the comparisons. Anaheim's team last year proved they can beat Detroit when it matters. This year the Ducks of '08 will have to prove they can beat the Wings of '08 when it matters. Its a whole new playing surface this year, and we all know that the Wings at least will have a chance to raise the Holy Chalice.
