Is Datsyuk a lock for the Selke?

If Kesler doesn't win the Selke then the voting is seriously flawed. Pavs has the takeaways, but Kelser has every other stat.

I'll keep the dates in mind and let you know. It'll be a little tricky this month because we just signed on a new house and will begin the moving process on the 20th.

Please explain the crease rule to me in 2010

The crease rule is simple: If your sweater has a 9 and a 6 on it and you are within 2 feet of the keeper then no goal Poor Homer has had goals called back when he was well outside the crease and the keeper skated into his rear, so no there isn't consistancy except when he's involved.

Bettman might say no to Sochi Olympics

The way I interpret GB's language is he wants a cut of the profits- "When I point out these things, it's not to say, no, we're not going to go, but we have a multi-billion dollar business that we're responsible for," he said. "We have 20-plus million fans who watch our games in person and another couple of hundred million who watch on TV. We have to try to balance all the competing interests and evaluate them moving forward to see what makes sense." Isn't he basically saying that the NHL is "losing" money. Although this clearly isn't the case since the season is still 82 games. I have never really supported GB, but have let many of his "adjustments" slide by. If he thinks that these players won't play for their respective countries when the IIHF allows it, he's effin' crazy. Not only that, he's paving the way for players who are in contract and Olympic seasons to head to Europe to play. Just a bit of advice for Mr. Bettman: DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE, GIVE IT UP, THE OLYMPICS WILL HAPPEN, THE PLAYERS WILL GO AND YOU ARE NOT GETTING PAID!!!!!!!!!!

... born and raised in SOUTH DETROIT!

I can't say for-sure when it started at the Joe or even when people started singing along, but I've been going to rock concerts since the early 90's and whenever it was played, either as an intro to a band or during intermission, the crowd would jump in.

With Homer returning Sunday, who's the odd man out?

I would think these are the only guys to be "on the block". Its obvious that Babs isn't real impressed with Leino or Meech this season, almost to the point that it bothers him when he's forced to put them in. I have a feeling they will try to send May down so that he can be recalled for the playoffs. I know none of them have any real trade value but the Wings don't really need/want much in return. Not to mention that Meech, May, and Lebda are FAs after this season anywho.

The PP has to get better with Kronner and Willy back... because that means Meech is off the second unit.

12/20 GDT: Red Wings 0 at Blackhawks 3

I have a feeling this game could be UGLY! Unless 2 of Chicago's big 3 have off-nights this lineup is going to have a tough time keeping the puck oot. Ozzy is going to have to be at the top of his game and the D will have to keep the crease clear of Hawks and rebounds. AND FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING HOLY!!!!! NO STUPID PENALTIES (looking at you Bert) Recap: Keep one of Toews, Kane, Hossa off score sheet -only allow 1 of the two to get an assist -zero goals scored by any of the 3 Ozzy only has to make 20 saves Wings go 2-2 on PK Wings go 1-4 on PP

    KHL contract offer for Filppula?

If you look at Hudler's stats, his production decrease when his TOI increased. He was effective playing against the 3rd/4th line of the opposition but up against the big boys he just couldn't do it.

Looking like the Mrs. and I are definite maybes. Hopefully better news to follow...
  12. Gotta go with a big fat NO on this one. Malkin is prob the best at producing points, but Crosby doesn't hold a candle to Pav or Z. Both are MUCH better defensively, Pav is a superior play maker, Z is on par with skating and comparable when his sights are on.

    Dan Cleary Disallowed Goal

Pretty weak call as far as I am concerned. But on the same note what was the non call when Kipper whacked Homer with the same zebra standing directly behind the net, looking at the play since the puck was btwn Homer's skates?

    RWN_HQ December gathering?

Not really a tournament per se, just a group that likes to hang out, drink, and play silly polish games. Kinda just kidding, for the most part it is a group from Lori's work that actually know what euchre is and play relatively well.

    RWN_HQ December gathering?

As of right now the misses and I are free for Dallas and Nashville. We'll be at the Columbus game so no-ah-ah there. Sundays aren't awesome, but doable. And due to a euchre party on 12-5 gunna have to pass there and prob won't be in great shape for 12-6 due to said party. edit: horrific "text" spelling

    First trip to JLA

Cobo Joe's is a good option also. It's halfway between DT Inn and JLA (about a block and a half from each).
  17. Personally, I like having the local announcers. Not only can they pronounce players names, they can usually provide a random story here and there that is interesting. If it were possible to have national announcers for every game, then bias is avoidable. Although when everyone's buddy Melrose was around that wasn't the case, even Jones can be brutal some times (I know they don't call games, but just the fact that they are national broadcasters). And as far as I am concerned NFL and NASCAR really cannot be compared to any other sport. The one-game-a-week schedule makes being a diehard fan WAY too easy.

    Olympia Room

I believe that The Olympia Room has varying rules. For instance, you can wear jeans and tennis shoes... if its a weekend and you have on a jersey. For the most part think "business casual", which I think is a ridiculous term because my father who works for the state of Michigan has to still wear a tie. But for certain they will hold you back for wearing a hat, T-shirt, or sandals with black socks.

    Boogaard and Datsyuk?

From THN 9. Sept: Derek Boogaard and Pavel Datsyuk are two intimidating players, but in very different ways. This summer, Boogaard was invited to not only take part in Datsyuk's hockey school in Russia, but also train with the gifted Red Wing. "Anytime you get to skate or even just be around a player of that caliber, you can't pass that up," Boogaard said. " You should have seen how he treated the kids. I was expecting a cockier guy, but Pav's a really good guy." Most of the kids didn't know who Boogaard was. "Once they started pulling up the YouTube clips, they got more intimidated," Boogaard laughed. "I can't wait to go back next summer. -So is Pav getting some tips from Boogey, you know, to toughen up those soft Euro hands? Actually I bring this up to re-enforce that fact that the Lady Byng can be something respected by everyone. Boogaard has his place in the league and everyone knows what that is, yet Pav seeks him oot to invite him to his personal camp which seems the anti-thesis of his style.

    Boogaard and Datsyuk?

I think that what Pav does is damn-near amazing. The man is a defensive beast, offensive wizard and can do it all within the rules of the game. If you look at the stats he puts up and his competition at the top of those lists there isn't another player that is so complete. I have said for years that the Selke is a great honor, but if you add the Byng on top of that, isn't that a Selke+? It's great to be defensively sound, but if you're the one in the box it really is worthless isn't it?

McKeen's NHL Yearbook Red Wings Predictions

St. Louis will make the playoffs this year. There is almost no way they can have as many injuries as they had last season. Not too sure who would be left oot of the POs though.

Olympic Hockey-Where do your allegiances lie?

Although there is a VERY slim chance, I'm going with USA. Normally I would put Tre-Kronner second, but I think it would be great for the sport if Canada won the gold this year.

    THN Yearbook and P. Kane

I don't know who may have saw this, but it s rather comical after the cabbie incident. "There are no worries in Chicago about what kind of players and people Toews and Kane will turn out to be. They already are the face of the franchise and a marketer's dream- good respectful kids whose heads are on straight." - Tim Sassone, author "These kids are for real. This is the greatest group of kids I've ever been around in any aspect of this sport, on and off the ice. I think it's their impeccable character. They're beyond their years as far as their composure and their intelligence... Since we've drafted these kids, they've showed unbelievable maturity and approach..." - Dale Tallon, ex-GM Apparently Mike Babcock is the only good judge of character: " I think Kane is a great player, don't get me wrong, but to me the guy you build a franchise around is the Toews kid." I realize this could have been buried in the original Kane thread, but what would be the fun in that?
