I'm not so sure ESPN will grind down hockey if they have it as one of their sports. I guarantee that if they didn't show Eating contests, Scrabble, Spelling bees, and Rock Paper Scissors, their "personalities" would be more than willing to make fun of a sports network that shows events like those. I mean they go out of their way to insult hockey. You don't hear them say, "Well lets go on to Wimbledon highlights, not that anyone cares." They don't even badmouth the non-sports that they show. I believe that the way ESPN has been portraying hockey has a lot to do with public perceptions. And I'd have to believe that they wouldn't give such bad publicity to thier own product.

Here's my thoughts: At this forum we respect the viewpoints of fans of opposing teams. Drsingle is a well respected member of this forum, which unforunately cannot be said of you. @drsingle It's unfortunate that Nashville had to lower their budget so drastically, but I will admit that they've done a good job getting compensation for their players. I think the article however is only focusing on a team's ability to win next year, rather than any rebuilding strategy they've been using.

I think that bonuses that are conditional on playoff performance count towards the next year's cap.

Anyone who makes up their own nickname deserves to get a bad one. See "George Costanza", "T-bone"

Eklund was right!!!!

At this time last year we all pretty well knew who would win the Calder, but this year I'm struggling to even think of rookies who are supposed to be good. Off the top of my head, all that comes to mind are Erik Johnson and Jack Johnson. Who are going to be the top rookies this year?

From what I understand of the old CBA, there were two types of compensatory draft picks: 1. Draft picks given up by one team to compensate another (this was how RFA losses were compensated) 2. Draft picks given by the league to compensate a team (this was how UFA losses were compensated) (feel free to correct me if I'm getting any of this wrong) So here are my questions: 1. What are the rules concerning RFA compensations (i.e. do all the draft picks have to be in a single draft year, can you provide draft picks that were acquired elsewhere...)? 2. Are there any compensatory picks provided by the league in the new CBA? 3. Tendering an offer to an RFA is often called "signing a player to an offer sheet". Does this mean that the player has to come to an agreement with the other team or does the RFA have no choice in the matter? 3a. If the RFA has no choice in the matter and has already changed teams, can he still go to arbitration to try to become a free agent? Thank you for your answers.

Logic would dictate that since he scored 15 goals averaging 5 minutes a game, he will score 45 goals averaging 15 minutes a game. So all Babcock has to do is let Hudler play 20 minutes a game and the Richard trophy is his!!!!

I'm starting to believe that Lowe's strategy this offseason is not to make his team better, but to make all the other teams worse. If, for every other team in the league, he offers a grossly inflated offer sheet to an RFA they can't afford to lose, none of the other teams will be able to maintain their UFAs who will be forced to drastically lower their prices (since none of the other teams can afford them either) at which time Edmonton will sign a team full of all-stars with cap room to spare.

Personally, I think Roenick is going to be great on TV.

Brad Norton with the Red Wings summary: All he did was fight every game. He usually lost. We had a losing record when he was in the lineup. When we first removed him from the lineup, we went on a long winning streak.

That's what I've heard.

That looks like Corey Perry in front. But seriously, to be the Anti-eklund, wouldn't this guy have to get stuff right? As far as I'm concerned the only difference is that Peklund is honest about his methods.

The black one looks too much like the mavericks jersey.

Wow. What ever happened to the rumors that the new jerseys would be $499?

Of course the most important thing the hockey world gained from this game was a certain Native American phrase:
-
Three words: Statue of Liberty This turned the tide of the series. Wings were facing elimination then Patrick goes showboating and drops the puck.

I'm not such a big fan of the idea. Right now the NHL is the world's premiere league. When you have the NHL competing to be the world's best league, then we might not be getting the best talent anymore. Cause it would be just as easy to win it all staying in Europe.

Lang is so lazy he's like a negative number and when you subtract a negative, it's actually adding. So therefore, by subtracting Lang, Ken Holland added to our team.

It's probably cause the '90 red wings got away with a ton of clutching and grabbing. 12 total penalty minutes tells you it wasn't reffed by today's standards. Oh and the '90 team had Yzerman.

Does anyone know how Pittsburgh got our 4th rounder? I don't remember any deal with them recently.

That article was about Chelios? I must have missed that. I thought it was an ad for Cold-fx.

I think the definition of charging is either leaving your feet to make a check, or taking more than 3 strides into a check. By the way, I thought bad-mouthing the refs was a fine-able offense in the NHL. Could we be on our way to Round 2 of Chris Pronger's NHL Discipline.
