Did the players not like him? Scotty is probably still on the wings payroll, and is ruining the club. I can't think of any reason they would fire savard. Flat camp? Flat start? Its the beginning of the season, calm down. Even the wings aren't looking so hot right now, but they aren't about to fire babs. The wings should pick up Savard as an assistant, or help in the minors. He did a good job working with the young guys in Chicago.

Prediction time: I don't think that Malts is going anywhere. Why would the wings resign Cheli? Loyalty. Holland and Co. are going to have Malts until he retires. At 36, it could be soon. I bet malts and Draper retire together. I see Malts being an assistant coach, and Draper being a commentator... I think that guys like Draper, Maltby and DMac are the guys who bought into the work ethic, and team over individual mentallity that Yzerman and Bowman were trying to instill. I don't see Federov, (I may be wrong) as one who bought into that culture. Someone brought up that he would be higher on their list if he didn't hold out, and I think thats pretty crazy, over 15 years, you are dropping him because of under 1/30th of the time he didn't play. I would drop him because he left 5 years ago, and hasn't been here for 1/3 of the time this thread is discussing.
