    Ovechkin CHEAP SHOT

you obviously have an axe to grind... i'm not biting because i just call it as i see it... that was an unfortunate CLEAN hit. the only reason we're even having this conversation is because of WHO made the hit, not due to the end result. it was clean, regardless of who dealt or received the impact.

    Ovechkin CHEAP SHOT

for whatever it's worth... sounds sincere to me. (from TSN) Clad only in a towel, Ovechkin waited in the hallway for an update on Heward, who sustained a concussion and was taken to Sibley Memorial Hospital, where he was to be held overnight for further evaluation. "I didn't know what to think," Ovechkin said. "I saw him and he turned around and .. I didn't mean to hit him. Sure, you're concerned. I want to know how he is." Heward was face-down and motionless on the ice for about four minutes before being carefully rolled onto a backboard by paramedics and doctors. Ovechkin, worry etched on a face used to jubilant celebrations, waited in front of the Capitals bench before skating over to check on Heward. "It was an accident and I'm very sorry," Ovechkin said. "I never want to hurt somebody, especially my old teammate. It's hard and I'm very sorry, but it's a game and it's a moment. He turns and I have speed. .. I hope he is OK."

    Ovechkin CHEAP SHOT

this hit was not cheap, regardless of who hit who... unfortunate, that much i'll agree.

Babcock: Conklin To Start Winter Classic...?

Given all the circumstances, Conklin is the right choice. Even Osgood's biggest fans should be man/woman enough to admit this, if they're honest. Babcock should be commended for his decision, especially in the face of such pressure from people who want this to be a nostalgic experience. Yes... it's outdoors, and yes, it is unlikely to happen again with this team anytime in the near future. BUT, this game is worth two important points at this critical time of the season. This is where a different statement needs to be made... one of complete domination over a highly ranked opponent. edit: spelling

    giving opportunity

haven't seen this mentioned, at least not that i've found here on LGW... but before i continue, please allow me to make one thing clear - this is not meant to draw any attention away from the work matt has done with LGW and the fact that you should do whatever you're able to in support of it... it's meant to augment and provide an additional avenue to support the DRW organization and a cause they have championed, with the help of the league. http://give.salvationarmyusa.org/site/TR?p...&fr_id=1200 thanks for however you may choose to make a difference.

    intangibles

I haven't seen all of the games this season but for the ones I have been able to make, 3 players stand out as being instrumental to this team's success: (in no particular order) ericsson mursak emmerton some things these guys have done show up on the stat sheet but most of it is positioning and follow through on their check or assignment. i'm not making the argument that abdelkader, haydar, etc... are not equally important. i'm just pointing out that often times those not sharing the spotlight of "3 stars" announcements after the game might perhaps deserve honorable mention here. i'm deeply impressed by ericsson if i had to choose one, but mursak's speed and awareness, coupled with emmerton's vision and execution... they make for a deadly combination. it's been fun to watch.

    Detroit/Chicago Unveil Winter Classic Sweaters

the only way i would be seen with this jersey is if she comes with it... great idea but adding the laces kills it... subtleties matter and they failed IMHO

    Parade Attendance? 1.4 MILLION?

200,000? i'll take a hit of whatever you're smoking! let it go already. clearly you have an axe to grind and you're not winning much respect by carrying on about this nonsense. I GUARANTEE THERE WERE OVER 500,000 THIS YEAR. as has already been pointed out, the same measurement from previous years was used to calculate last week. they have this down to a science so let's leave this one to the professionals and officially close this thread on a good note.

    Parade Attendance? 1.4 MILLION?

1M+ is NOT a stretch at all... there were people everywhere, at each turn of the parade route. the culmination in Hart is where they generally try and get a feel for how many fans made it out to support the team... albeit not everyone makes the trek down to the public address. it's likely only a matter of time (if its not already available) that somebody posts an aerial view of Hart during the festivities. it will be at that point that most of you who are skeptical will turn the corner because all you will mostly see is a blanket of red and white. and as somebody has already pointed out, it is ignorant to believe that only people from the great state of Michigan were the ones to make the event. in fact, i would be surprised if there weren't at least 15 areas of North America alone being represented, and that's not counting the other European nations in attendance. what an amazing day for the team and the city. the only spoiler was the pathetic showing of Kwame but he did little to dispel his complete irresponsibility. the beer comment was one of the most ridiculous propositions to try and win back the heart of the community, regardless of whether or not he was caught in the moment. what a poor excuse for a leader. God bless Hockeytown and the entire Detroit Red Wings organization, new and old!

    Cleary

i had to double check when the last time i posted was because its been too long to recall. before now, it was 10/23/07, but your post clearly was enough to break the hiatus. i'm making every attempt not to offend you but have you seriously lost your mind? two words above (bold) completely negate any validity to the remainder of your post. ANYone (with the only exception being that of a cruel joke) with the least bit of hockey sense will arrive very quickly at the conclusion that you've had a momentary lapse of reason here. please assure me this was bad humor on your part.

    Grigorenko recalled from Grand Rapids

he'll have two weeks... i'd say that's chance enough. it's up to him to perform and i'm willing to see what he's truly made of. fail the test, you're demoted... it's rather simple actually. and this talk about not being able to raise his family on 50k post tax dollars, give it a rest. an american family can be raised on 1/3 of that if they know where their priorities are. most of us here receive considerably less money or have done just fine with the provision we've been entrusted with, it just takes a little discipline... nothing more.

    Grigorenko recalled from Grand Rapids

i wrote more about Grigs in a previous thread called "grigorenko" but for this i simply say... he has two weeks to perform a miracle... i'll give him that much time and not a day longer. don't cut it, go home... no time for sore losers, period. in no way based on where he stands tonight does he earn a spot over ellis, downey, or even kopecky. time will tell whether any naysayers will need to admit their rush to judgment.
