    Grigorenko recalled from Grand Rapids

agreed, you need not look further than the "grigorenko" thread to find my observations of the same game.

    Griffins 2007-08

brief observations from last night's home opener... -the PK left a lot to be desired -the boys played most of the game intimidated, on their heels -howard lost his head after two quick goals against -the refs are calling the league tight, similar to what we've seen in the NHL -flaherty came back to hunt the griffins, this time with another club -keefe matches the same intensity that downey brings to the DRW, plays same role -hartigan was the best pick up, hands down... he was one of few to bring his A game -ryno is extremely tall -mark cullen is my dark horse to make a difference this season, his focus and intensity is infectious and he did great things with the phantoms a season or two ago... and he's not afraid to shoot the puck! -ritola was fun to watch... he's quick but didn't see the puck much -players unmentioned in this thread had an otherwise forgetful evening it was one game and proved to be the first loss of a young season, no long-term conclusions are being drawn.

    grigorenko

I'm not sure if this belongs in the "Griffins" thread or here since the specific topic of conversation is Grigs... I just want to assure all of you of a few things. the Griffins finally played their home opener last night in what proved to be a completely uneventful game, and in most cases a serious embarrassment against the newly added rockford icehogs. i wouldn't dare view my observations as a political call to action but here's what i saw, realizing it was only one game... Grigs was the slowest player on the ice, and the next fastest was hands down quicker. he played out of position and made errant passes the entire game. he had two golden opportunities to score just above the crease and lost his blade both times, followed by a blank stare at the ref for not calling a penalty (when nobody touched him). i want to believe that Grigs has what it takes to persevere and return to an NHL skill-set following the horrific accident he suffered years ago... i really do, but the fact is he still has a LOT of work to do. i commend him for making it back to the game as quick as he did but my empathy for his situation isn't enough for me to falsely accuse him of being the great player he once was... he just isn't. i haven't by any means thrown in the towel, especially not after one game. my point is that even if he had an off night, considering the accolades that have surrounded this guy for years, he would have at least looked better than the opponents weakest link... and he did not.

    Babcock moving people around

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...0339/1128/rss16 "Tomas Kopecky has moved from a wing to a center position, while Kris Draper has gone from center to a wing. "Kopecky is 6-foot-3, and we feel over time he'll become a real good matchup center," Babcock said. "Can he do it? I don't know. You have to have the opportunity, and we'll give him one right off the start." Babcock feels Draper's speed can be best utilized playing a wing on a line with center" Thoughts?

Rumor: Ducks won't match offer for Penner

everything about your posts exude bitterness. i can't say i blame you, penner will not just fold in an oilers uniform. lowe may have paid more than he should have but not necessarily because penner may keep a steady progression and this deal looks real good after a few years, especially in the new NHL. the other key here is that penner hardly received ice time in anaheim's program and you can bet lowe will play him big minutes. penner scored more points as a rookie than anyone else with the same amount of ice time he was given. you are in complete denial if you think penner is going to join hemsky and horcoff and fall apart. he's going to receive top line minutes and make a BIG difference. you will eat your words so you're better off just admitting that you're a bitter ducks fan and sad to see penner leave the system. as far as being cocky... who cares? i certainly would like to see star players be as humble as possible but if he scores goals for your team (or used to, sad for you he no longer will) and help lead the club to victories, he can be the biggest PITA on the ice and you can't deny his ability to carry your team. i bet you didn't care how arrogant and/or cocky he was when he was leading the ducks to the stanley cup. if you say you did, you've lost all credibility in my book, and i'm sure others' as well.

    dallas stars NEW jersey

if numbers are going to be in the front of any jersey going forward, they should find better ways of doing it. for example, on the white jersey illustration, there will be four different sets of numbers in very close proximity of one another. the number on the front is completely unnecessary and far too close to it's identical counterpart on the sleeve. the dark jersey, with the number in the middle, is simply bad taste. no other way to describe it. i absolutely do not favor numbers on the front of any hockey jersey. what main purpose does this serve anyway? is it so refs can see the numbers better? seriously, what is it? how difficult is it to see numbers down the sleeve and GIANT numbers on the back? please tell me there's a better reason, anyone...

Eklund at it again. Forsberg to Detroit?

health is absolutely the key. of course you can't deny his talent if/when he's healthy. his health has been in question for years. do we have some red pill he can swallow to make it all go away, or what aren't you telling me? his injuries will follow him wherever he goes, and that's likely to retirement.

    Kenny on 1270

i agree with holland's comments, fairly standard. holland knows that howard needs another year of development. i expect great things from this kid if he has increased starts in GR and steps it up a few notches. i was more unsure about liv than i've ever been about howard.

"We have no interest in him -- I mean zero"

i guess that about says it all now doesn't it. it's good to see the wings brass stick to their guns.
