2008-2009 NBA Season Thread (Pistons trade for Allen Iverson)
spydrwebb replied to timothy1997's topic in Other Sports
especially to the bynum comment... believe in this kid and after last night he proved he can hang with some of the big boys. both he and stuckey battle and play a very physical game, which is what the pistons need to get back to, and no doubt bosh would certainly help that become a reality. personally, i checked out from sheed a few seasons ago, regardless of what he's done the past 24 months... he has NO heart. he is a very talented post up player and perimeter threat but that is all overshadowed by his consistent complaining and playing the "victim" whenever opportunity presents itself. he's older now and you would think that amounts to less mouth and more action... not in his case. if only somebody would have accepted his contract but nobody wants to pay him that kind of money, and i'm glad we only have to for a short time longer. -
i just wish somebody would solve the mystery of what happened to pyett. a highly touted prospect that has all but disappeared... i wouldn't think lashoff would be the answer but stranger things have happened.
-
the 4.97 option will suffice... perani's usually has a lot of patches as well, if you don't find them elsewhere
-
a lot of upside here, good to hear they got it done finally

seems to make the most sense given information leading up to this story. i doubt we'll know anything more about this before april 1. it would be better to see the modified logo w/o the grey splash, to get a better feel what it would really look like. anyone want to photoshop that it post it here? or even better yet, photoshop w/o the grey on an actual lions colors football helmet. any takers?

RE: logo redesign HERE is the front runner endorsed by the detnews. this of course might not mean more than a hill of beans but it looks good. for what it's worth, the aforementioned design by zelley placed 2nd. both are an improvement to what we have now, without changing things too much. will be interesting to see what comes of this. will be sure to report if i hear any official word before its released to the public.

2 1st round picks is gross overpayment for a guy that doesn't even want to play for the lions, even in a package deal that includes denver's 2nd round pick. expect other teams to lure away cutler and force detroit to start the season with dante, if cutler moves at all.
-
what your brother sent you is a portfolio created by a local design firm, zelley designs. it's official in the sense that it has been confirmed to have been submitted for the logo design contest (lions/freep), however the design choice(s) are not yet available to the public. this work is rumored to be one of the front runners but no sources to substantiate that claim can be found. bottom line, it's unconfirmed at this point. you can see the entire spread that was submitted to the lions HERE. to the "lead time" comment... these designs have been in some form of pre-production since early 2007 so the lions could roll them out for 2009/10 if that's the decision they make. the only thing preventing a move from happening sooner is dissension amongst some front office personnel regarding the history and significance (at least from a branding standpoint) of the "leaping lion."

that explains it... makes sense. not judgment, just observation. all i said was that this wasn't the worst defense... never that they shouldn't be playing better. i also never said that i wasn't concerned. being concerned, however, is quite different than "jumping off the bridge" as several here have done. the defense should be a stronger overall force, agreed. will they be the ultimate demise of this team and prevent a solid defense of the cup... alone.... not likely. it would be a team effort (or lack thereof) that would get in the way of an honest repeat with the cup.
-
do people actually read before they reply, or is that a lost art form? several people have already agreed with the obvious work that must be done to secure more victories and be playoff-ready... but how does what you said even begin to address my request for somebody to explain how ________________ is enough to undeniably give up on this team? my point (and others' for that matter) is that even these few points of contention don't begin to rule out the possibility of this team defending the cup. people... we're just as susceptible to disappointment but we're (those of us who are tired of the chicken little's of the world) not about to abandon anyone or anything based on the reasons people have discussed thus far. that won't change, and it shouldn't.
-
what i find interesting is that people are actually defending that they should feel anything other than what is described above. it's beyond me.... electrophile spells it out with precision... we're not pleased with the loss but we refuse to hang our heads and believe that this defeat (or any like it) spells immediate doom to this season. please, go back and watch some of the footage from last season... i'll entertain people who want to present a valid argument for why anyone should believe that the wings are as good as hopeless (borrowing others' words, not my own)... however, i highly doubt anyone can present a solid enough platform that undeniably proves why we should just all pack it an and chalk this season up as a lesson learned. seriously... all are welcome to try.
-
seriously... is this a joke? you said this was the worst defense you have ever seen with the wings.... i will accept that with validity (arguably) if you began watching this team in the 90s but if not.... this year's defense doesn't come close to being the worst ever. help me understand what exactly you meant if you've watched this team for longer than the past two decades.... i'm sincerely interested.
-
so no you're into name calling... it's getting better with each post. and YES, i believe the wings have as much opportunity to win the stanley cup this season as they did last, or even compared to the beginning of this season for that matter. should that surprise you? shocked? why? i've witnessed all facets of this team since 1977 and these trivial setbacks don't evin begin to scare me... don't look further than last season to find the answer to how a team can address some difficulties with chemistry.... what happened? oh, right.... the STANLEY CUP.
-
fixed. big difference.
-
you've managed to do absolutely nothing to support how my claim was incorrect. bravo. care to try again? it's simple... i said that it's one game... care to argue that point? i also said i'd like somebody to introduce me to a team that has gone 82-0... can you? care to put any more words in my mouth, or have you gotten your fill? do a little more homework before you start with the accusations... it will do us both a favor.
-
how soon several of you forget the conklin had a 13 game home winning streak before tonight. yeah, he's useless.
-
it's embarrassing to me how many people on here treat one loss like the demise of the entire season... pathetic, simply no other way to describe it. name the last team to go 82-0, please, and you'll have my attention. otherwise, save it.
-
thankful you're not the wings GM
-
i'm fairly certain the world will cease to exist now... give it a rest. there were far worse defenses to wear the winged wheel in the eighties.

2008-2009 NBA Season Thread (Pistons trade for Allen Iverson)

rip is making a believe out of me again. i know its hard to find anyone who moves as quick or as much as him without the ball, which is very important. however, i've often allowed his unorthodox offensive game and irrational decision making with the ball to overshadow any defensive or offensive (without the ball) efforts... until now. he's looking like its his 2nd or 3rd year in the league all over again, which is exactly what this team needs. clearly the young kids need to still step up their game for the pistons to have any chance at a postseason but team chemistry has returned with the addition of rip back into the starting lineup. i honestly didn't think i would ever make such a claim but perhaps i should just admit that i didn't give rip a fair chance. i don't like the idea of rip being our general but again, it might grow on me if i'm not given another choice. stuckey is inconsistent and not prepared (yet) to lead this team on the point but the bench gets pretty thin at this position (AI not taken into account for obvious reasons) and so too do the pistons chances of surviving a 7 game series with just about any team in the eastern conference at this point. -
+1 Go BLUE!

curry is no doubt the most versatile player available and would add a great deal to this struggling franchise. i would prefer that the lions address OL, LB, CB, QB in that order... but history proves they haven't used the best deductive reasoning in the past. i see them taking a strong look at whatever QB might be available at #20 and then trying to strengthen their DL and DE corps with the later rounds. i hope i'm wrong and they decide not to look at a QB until the 2nd or even 3rd round. that would truly separate this new staff from the completely insane decisions of the people they replaced.
-
i've received alleged (not confirming, at this point it is still rumored to be true) reports that the lions will be going with a different shade of blue, in addition to the deletion of black and inclusion of the throwbacks they've already worn for years. to clarify, black jerseys will be no longer, they will have the home white and away blue and wear throwbacks for special games. of course, i'm sure all of you are aware of the logo redesign contest that was commissioned by the lions and supported through the free press. at present, there have been no confirmed reports that the actual logo will change. the only thing coming from ford field by way of news here is that they have received thousands of submissions ranging from hand-held amateur drawings to professionally rendered computer-generated drafts. the ONLY thing i know at this point (friend who has been on the strength training squad for four seasons - don't talk to him very often) is that several of them have been met with serious consideration but no official word has been given that the leaping lion will be dismissed for reworked or completely new branding. before anyone asks, nobody in the front office is talking about the draft with the lions support staff. my friend is as in the dark about this as anyone else who isn't a coach, GM, or president with the franchise.

i think with #20 (from dallas) they will look at what quarterback is there. if this administration is going to separate themselves from their predecessors, they absolutely must bolster the OL with the #1. assuming they win 6 or less games this upcoming season, they will have another early pick in the first round of 2010. they can go for their franchise quarterback at that time, where there will definitely (in theory) be a better class of prospects available. i was sure chris simms would sign with detroit and wrap up their offseason by adding a veteran that could compete for the starting job. his signing elsewhere obviously proved me wrong. either way, it's too early for the lions to be married to anyone and they should take every minute they have leading into the draft to dissect all available college standouts. i'm not sold on stafford so i'll admit to my bias in passing over him with #1.
