Salary Cap Figures - Next Seasons Max/Min

As of now next years total salary is about 40,275 million (per nhlnumbers). UFAs: Drake, Mccarty, Downey, Hartigan, Chelios, Lilja, Stuart, Hasek RFAs: Fillpula, Ericsson, Quincey, Howard What i think will be goners; Hasek, Lilja (if Stuart resigns), Hartigan These are maybe goners; one of Mccarty or Downey, Chelios, Drake, Quincey (there just isnt room for him on the big club if cheli stays, and he will want to play the nhl). Resigned; Stuart (or Lilja if Stuart goes), Mccarty, Downey or Drake (probably 2 of them), Fillpula, Ericsson, Howard, maybe Chelios. So, lets say Stuart stays, then we'll presume something like this; Stuart 3,5 Fillpula 2,2 Mccarty 0,6 Ericsson 1 (? what do you guys think he is worth) Howard 1 (? same here) Chelios 0,85 Downey or Drake 0,6 That leaves us with a cap number of 50,025. If cheli retires, we can replace him with quincey. Now we have 14 forwards (counting helm aswell, if you count abdelkader and ritola we have 16), 8 defensemen, and 2 goalies for next year. If Drake or Downey is being let go of, we will get someone else of similiar salary in theyre place. When Zs and franzens new contracts kicks in i can definitely see that we will let samuelsson go, kopecky will probably be resigned. That means minus 1.2 of the 50,025 = 48,825. Now, lets resign Z and the Mule. Z gets 7,2 mill and Franzen 3,5. Thats makes for a combined raise of 7,108 mill which translates into a total capnumber of 55,933 million in 09-10 (im asuming we're replacing/resigning the likes of downey, drake etc. with similiar salaries). In other words, it all depends on home much the max cap will be. A 57 mill cap next year, that will probably go up a little bit more, may translate into a quality signing. So much of the calculations depends on Fillpula, Stuart, Z and Franzens salaries though (i personally dont think franzen will get as much as 3.5, if kenny is quick and resigns him this summer). All in all, it's hard to predict the future . But reason says we wont get a big name player this summer (although im hoping for Malone/Rolston!!).

    Brunnstrom Visits The Wings

Brunnström has played on "my" team this past year in Sweden. He had an awesome first half of the season, what the media doesnt tell you is that his second half wasnt that much to brag about. He was actually outplayed by a former wing draft pick, Mikael Johansson. And he didnt really do much at all in the playoffs (even scratched at some point), altough he got his fair chance (färjestad were knocked out in the semis). It is understandable, he is a young kid that made his first season in the swedish elite league, but he is way too overhyped. Actually he has even said this himself, that he think the media is hyping him too much. He really seems like an ok guy though, all this travelling around seems to be so that he can make the best choice for himself.. He is no floater, thats for sure. I think quite many of the comments here are unfair, its all about the mediahype, you dont know the guy (i dont either)..

Quick question, where does that nickname come from? Never understood it (im from sweden, so im not that good at montreal history ).

    Tampa Bay gets 1st pick

Holmqvist was dealt to the stars along with brad richards, Tampas goalies are Smith/Rämö/Denis.. And, since they dealth Richards at the deadline, one would think they would have a bit more faith in Smith, since he (along with dumping salary) would be the main reason they were dealing Richards to Dallas to begin with.

    Hockey News: Predictions

Turco had a pretty nice series last year, 3 SO:s, not too shabby. How can you not win a series when your goalie has 3 shutouts? Pretty well done i must say..

    Capitals ?!?!

Actually, Caps would be fifth right now if the Divisionwinner-rule didn't exist, beating the Sens through their season series. Caps are definitely worthy of a playoff spot, thats for sure!

just wanted to get this out there

The tiebreaker is going to be the season series between the two teams, which i believe is in the caps favour..

    NHL's disappointing players

Just FYI; Lidström actually thinks Crosby is the best player in the NHL, ive just read an article about it in aftonbladet (i know, not to reliable, but this was an interview ). Can't get you any link though, have to have some special access to read it ^^. They had a big poll with all the swedes in the NHL, Crosby got like 40% of the votes, Lidström 15%. Its really interesting to see what the players themselves thinks..

    Valtteri Filppula

Well i guess atleast one of lilja, stuart or quincey will be gone for next season (hopefully we'll resign stuart and let go of lilja imo), and hasek eats up 4 of those 8.975m (i think?). He will either retire, or atleast take a paycut, aint getting better with age ya know. Also, if drake stays (doubtful) you wont need helm with the big club, i guess his paycheck wont count against the cap if he is with grand rapids, and otherwise you have a little bit more money freed up if drake goes.. I dont think there will be cap issues, seems kenny has his numbers pretty figured out..

    Raffi back in on Wed...

For people who wants ericsson in, i just saw his +/- in his few games arent that good. I mean, -5 with 5 games played arent really impressive stats.. Take it for what you will though, as i havent really seen him play, and it is afterall stats, and i know they dont necessarily reflect reality. Anyways, man weve got a great d-core! (soo much better then last year)

    Thoughts on Thorton

Question; what upside does McGrattan have more than fighting skills? I dont get to watch NHL that much, so i havent seen him play..

Why did we let Don MacLean go?

My impression (im from sweden) is that you can get more cash in the swiss and austrian league, atleast more then in sweden. During the lockout many NHLers chose between Russia and Switzerland, i think mainly because of money. Theres probably lower taxes in those countries then it is in Finland and Sweden aswell. Money talks..

Lidström hoping to sign new contract

Dont know if youre asking me, but anyways, hes not saying anything about that. The interview was about babcock's comments about nick would make a nice GM.
  20. In an interview with a swedish reporter lidström says he is hoping to sign a new contract. From this blog; http://blogg.aftonbladet.se/18756 "Du är väl överhuvudtaget inte på väg att gå i pension? – Nej, jag hoppas kunna skriva nytt kontrakt . Det är roligt att spela och går bra just nu." Some swedish for ya . Just thought it was good to throw it out there..

    Fabian Brunnstrom

Hes currently playing LW . He is a leftie.. Here's a quote from elite prospects concerning him; "An offensively gifted forward with a decent scoring touch. Brunnström is a speedy skater with soft hand and good technical skills. Combines speed and stickhandling in an impressive way. Hockey sense is pretty good and he is also strong physically with a good attitude."

    Fabian Brunnstrom

He is currently playing on "my" team in Sweden, Färjestads BK. He is definetely the real deal. Played in the swedish third tier league last year (41 GP 73 points), now hes playing for one of the best clubs in sweden, and he is one of the top players(20 points in 27 games, +8, second on the team in points, 17th in the league). This is also not just any team he is playing a vital role on, Färjestad is currently second in the league, they won the regular season last year (went out in semis) and theyve been in they finals 7 straight seasons before last season. I think he could be a second line point producer in NHL, he is that good. Strong skater, strong on the puck, great scoring ability. It's really weird he hasnt been picked up yet..

    Christofer Löfberg

Was Carl Hagelin playing in J20? Because there is a big difference between the second tier league and J20 here in sweden, the second tier league being on a higher level, thats for sure. Much togher and more competetive, and most importantly, teams are much better defensively in the second tier league. For a young guy, thats pretty good numbers (Rögle is one of the top 3 clubs)..

dont know much about the griffins, but liv is back playing in Sweden for his homeclub, HV 71, in the Swedish elite league.
