Terrible trade idea. They're both equally valuable, they just play different styles of games. Getzlaf is more suited for the Ducks' style of play and Zetterberg is more suited to the Wings. The trade would make both teams worse.
-
Don't forget, we still have Ritola too. Somebody is getting traded.
-
Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but apparently the only team to actually offer him a contract has been Detroit. http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/07/mike_modano_in_wait-and-see_mo.html

You'd seriously rather have Luongo than Pavel Datsyuk?

Souray has cleared waivers. What this means more specifically:
-
Losing Gonchar opened up some extra cap space and created a big hole on their back end.

Given the direction they're heading under Yzerman, I think they'll be a solid contender a few years down the road. Their defense is really the only question now that they've got Ellis. I guess next year will be important to see how Hedman does. They've got quite a bit of young talent to look forward to.

Rafalski Considered "top six signings since the 2005-06 season"
Zetts replied to cjm502's topic in General
Clearly comparable to the defenseman who played 24:53 a game when we won the Cup. He was great for us. He also put up 14 points in 22 games. Not bad for a defenseman. Oh, and that's also more than Lidstrom. -
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=325588 His numbers were decent last year, but still kind of a large contract in my opinion.

Steve Yzerman. Initially I was a fan of him, and just wanted the Wings to succeed because he was on the team. But after cheering so hard for a team for so long, it ended up sticking even after he retired.
-
Great article, even if it is from the Oilers' (*gag*) perspective: Then after the callup: So, it looks like he compares decently to Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson, who is, from all accounts, supposed to be unreal. The only issue is the size. Still, an exciting prospect. He just has to put on a LOT of weight.

I wouldn't want to sacrifice the leading scorer from the playoffs for Nabokov, but they do need a goalie. Given that somebody up front probably has to move, I'd make it Hartnell. He's great, but outside of this year's playoffs he's never had the numbers (regular season or playoffs) to justify paying him over 4 million given their current cap issues. I'm sure many other teams would be more than happy to have a guy like that at that price though. Edit: Apparently it doesn't matter anyways, since Nabokov wants too much.

Just to make sure it's clear, they have a verbal agreement to attain his negotiating rights. They haven't reached any sort of deal with him yet, nor can they until they have the rights. It's far from a done deal that he ends up there. Edit: I do think he'll end up signing there though.

I'm pulling for a Hakan Andersson pick here. Come on random Swede that nobody has ever heard of...
-
Hmm. Don't know much about him. Apparently he had a .905 sv% in the regular season and 3.00 GAA in 30 GP. But in the playoffs he stepped it up a bit: 0.928 sv% and 2.39 GAA.

I got the impression from this: http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2010/06/red_wings_know_high-end_player.html But there's no actual quote from the Wings' front office.

Awesome pick. I'm guessing the rest of our picks will be defensemen and a goalie at this point.

He scored 9pts in 6 games at the 2009 U-18 Worlds.

Did I completely miss this? What happened with Abdelkader?

Is there a place to watch the other rounds online?

We're not talking about alcoholism though. He was caught for underage drinking once. And realistically, 99% of the population has boozed while underage (and probably an even higher percent of athletes - i.e. jocks). I have absolutely zero concern on this one. Besides, one beer would have qualified as underage drinking. We have no clue what the scenario was. It's not like he ended up punching someone at a house party.

Oh dear god no. I would love to have an enforcer. But given that these are NHL players, I think they should be able to skate faster than Pierre McGuire. Boogaard does not fit that criteria.

Jim Nill:

Sheahan didn't have great numbers last year, but that's not to say he doesn't have offensive potential. He was one of the youngest players in all of college hockey and played in a defensively oriented system. I trust Nill, and he seems to like the kid a lot. Jim Nill: http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/06/red_wings_pick_riley_sheahan_2.html Edit: Apparently the youngest player in college hockey.

Maybe if we were in the 1970s...
