I don't think this is really a big deal. Every opposing player doesn't have to worship the Wings. And lets be honest, how many people think, "Great, I get to stay in Detroit!"
-
I've never really seen the guy play. Is it a reasonable comparison to say he's similar to a Mike Green type of player?
-
It's a significant loss, but I think this is one they can make up for by committee without too many problems. He'd been pretty cold and has issues competing. This might even end up being beneficial, you never know.
-
Perhaps that would make more sense if this thread was actually about the Hart.
-
How did this become about Crosby again? Oh right, Carman has to bring him up in every damn thread.

...they just got a shutout.

I would like to point out that despite the Wing's difficult season, they'd currently be second in points if they were in the East, behind only Washington.
-
Troll. Go away. Yeah, leading the league in scoring and he's missed 10 games. What a piece of crap.
-
I'll bet it's run by blueadams.

Williams plays exactly the type of game that caused our early round upsets in the past. Skilled, but refuses to engage in the play. Actually, this year he doesn't even look particularly skilled. Bench his ass. Besides, Abdelkader showed that if anything, he steps it up for the playoffs.
-
I believe if it's tied there are then multiple winners. I don't think there is a tie-breaker.
-
Wow, you sound just like Crosby. Maybe you really are him. Kidding, kidding. Edit: Does anybody actually have any new news on Hossa's current injury?
-
Admittedly it's been a while since my last Physiology course, but I think it would be difficult for a hit such as the one he received to aggravate a rotator cuff injury.
-
Unfortunately my "pint sized brain" interpreted and as meaning that you were saying that he was injured then. My apologies. Clearly I should have understood that you actually meant "reaggravated an existing injury", something which you in fact came nowhere close to suggesting. Anyways, back onto the topic of Hossa's current injury.
-
I don't forget that... I was just explaining why some people might have a more favorable view on Datsyuk. If you read the thread, I've never said anything bad about Hossa. In fact, my first response was to you a few posts pu.

You know what's cool? Knowing what you're talking about. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2009/07/red_wings_gm_ken_holland_says_1.html The TITLE of the article And: So yes, I am for real.

I'm guessing he meant Tardiff. I don't think there was ever an indication he'd get a chance to play with the Wings anyways.

Because Hossa's injury was much earlier and he was fine until the playoffs. My impression was that he was injured the vast majority of the season with little apparent issue. Or at least he was still good enough that you couldn't tell. Not so much the case with Datsyuk. As for the Anaheim hit, that's pure speculation. From anything I saw, Datsyuk looked better than Hossa the year before. But also consider, that you're on a Wing's board. You seem to regularly forget this. People are going to be easier on Datsyuk because he performed for them. Hossa performed for the Penguins and specifically not for us.
-
Hossa's injury was during the regular season, yet his play only dropped off in the playoffs. He didn't look like a 7+ million dollar player. And your posts have a net rating of like -278. That screams "troll" to me. IMO, Datsyuk wasn't particularly great last year in the playoffs either. Part of that is injury related, part of it probably not so much. But he wasn't nearly as bad as Hossa. And Datsyuk was dominant the year before in the playoffs, so he gets a little bit of extra leniency for that.

I can nearly guarantee that it won't happen while Babcock is the coach.

There's a couple of things they'd need to evaluate if they're going to choose between the two. First, how much they trust their talent evaluation. Second, if they'll be a contender any time soon (unlikely). If their scouts are right, Price will end up being better than Halak. Or at least that's my impression. He's pegged as the goalie of the future. If they won't be contending soon, keep Price and have better goaltending in a few years when the team might be better. If they'll be challenging soon in their eyes, keep Halak, because he gives them the best chance now.
-
Clearly I'm missing something. Why do they have to choose? Is this just hypothetical?

I voted for Lidstrom the get the Yzerman leadership award. If we're being honest though, the fact that Lidstrom currently has ~81% of the vote suggests that this poll may be just slightly biased, being on a Red Wings board.

The fact that he's put up such good numbers while still having a couple of things that he clearly needs to work on, just makes me that much more optimistic for this guy's future. Yeah, there are some holes, but it comes down to the numbers. He stops the puck and he puts up wins. I'm confident with him in net. Of course, there's a little nervousness going into the playoffs since the Legace thing is still in everyone's mind. But Howard has a different personality, so that's a bit of reassurance that nothing like that will happen again.
