It is crazy how bipolar this place can get. And for people saying the Wings don't deserve to make the playoffs: Maybe you haven't watched teams around the same rank as us. It's how teams in 6-12 seeds play. You're comparing the Wings to their usual 1-2 seed play from previous seasons. There is a reason that teams in those middling places are there. You're seeing it. The Wings deserve to make the playoffs, and they will. Yeah, that was painful, but it's hardly the worst collapse. If it makes you feel better just think about that regular season loss against Pittsburgh last year. That was worse.

I think most people are aware he didn't have a pile of them himself. It's still an appropriate name, as micah suggested. We're not going to start calling them "Shanahan Hat Tricks". Sorry.

Oh, I know that you were serious. I meant that my jab at Hudler was a joke. I disagree with your assessment of Hudler, but there's no point in rehashing an argument that's already been gone through on here plenty of times. Especially since he's in Russia. And this thread is about where Datsyuk's ice time should go amongst the Wings. For the record, I think that Datsyuk's ice time should stay as time going to Datsyuk. He won't start putting up points from the bench. It's only Osgood who can affect the outcome of games from the bench, everyone doesn't have that power.
-
It was a joke. I'm aware that he's a Hudler slappy, I was just bugging him.
-
This would be the time where someone posts one of those facepalm pictures. Christ.
-
I think you have the wrong thread. This thread was for who would help us, not who can lose the most puck battles.

Considering that Lebda has supposedly cost us every point we've lost this year, I thought it was a fair statement. And when games are so close and a guy hasn't played hockey in a while it very well could end up making the difference in a game or two. ...and I agree, there is no statistical substance to suggest that Lilja would cost us points. It could be difficult to come up with those stats, seeing as how he hasn't played. That makes it kind of hard to know just how good or bad he'll be. But my apologies. I will try to keep my writing less cliche.
-
Even had he been cleared to come back it wouldn't solve anything. He hasn't played in a year or so. It would cost us points trying to get him back into the game. Lebda, despite people's over the top hatred for him, is a better option at the moment than Lilja who's been out for a year.

I'm not sure where section 110 is, but I'm thinking you might mean the section that had the guy in the rafters of JLA hanging over it and had to be evacuated?
-
This is true. It's always ridiculous to look at one game and then point the finger at a single player. Having said that, if we don't make the playoffs and both Datsyuk and Zetterberg end up under 65 points (which they both will at the current pace) it's largely on their shoulders.

Kopecky's capable. Hell, he made Slovakia's Olympic team. All-star caliber stuff right there.

Since the policy is to include at least one player from every team, I'm going to say yes.

My personal feelings towards Osgood are closer to frustration and incredulity then hatred. In my opinion, the Wings have done a lot for Osgood. Obviously Osgood has been there for the Wings too, and I'm grateful for that. But he has played behind some stacked teams that inflated his numbers. That's not a knock against Osgood, it's just a fact. Of course, in turn Osgood has played well enough to win, for little money and been perfect for the Wings because of his attitude. He was the perfect team guy, he had an amazing attitude where he would do anything and play in any role. He battled hard, and despite not being the most skilled guy, has had success because of who he is as a person and how he treats his job. I don't think you can deny, he's not a guy who's overflowing with raw talent. Now, for whatever reason, his attitude has completely changed, and he's no longer willing to do whatever is necessary. As his comments clearly show, he thinks it's all about him. And I have to disagree with you, he didn't mis-speak. It's happened too many times recently, and if you look at some of the reports, he knows what he's saying. It's not a slip out. He says things like "you can write that down". He's not stupid. He's been around long enough that I don't buy it. I guess what the problem boils down to, is that without the at attitude he used to have, Osgood is nothing. Not only that, but it's annoying as hell to see his lack of appreciation for a team that made his career. Let's be honest, interminded. Osgood might have had a reasonable career without the Wings, but nothing like this. With these comments not only is he not helping the Wings, he's making things worse. It's like suddenly he thinks that the Wings never did anything for him, it's HIM that's the reason they've won. So yes, it's not hatred. I'm just completely incredulous that he could be so stupid.
-
So what you're saying is that we should be happy about the comments? Or just that Osgood, because he's "likeable" should get a free pass from not playing up to par AND acting like an unprofessional joke? As far as "one of our own," it seems that it is Osgood that is turning this into an "us vs him" type of thing with these comments. If he'd shut up, things wouldn't be nearly as bad. Now this is going beyond just a slump, to him making very poor and unprofessional choices. Repeatedly. To clarify, I personally am not one of the people advocating trading him or waiving him. But it's perfectly fair to call him out. I'm interested in your opinion as one of the big Osgood supporters here. How do you justify this:
-
The Wings look tougher this year than they have in recent memory.
Zetts replied to a topic in General
I do believe that their tougher play is tied to why they've been worse this year. In my opinion, it has to do with the injuries. We've got a lot of scrubs busting their balls (except for Leino) instead of skill players with a pile of pretty plays. The type of play, in my eyes, creates a different mentality for the team. And, also as the OP mentioned, Babcock has helped. -
http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...od_cites_r.html Osgood is acting like an unprofessional child. I can't believe he's still going off of that previous success to justify his current play. He's really starting to piss me off with these comments. I'm still grateful for what he's done in the past, but my respect for him is dwindling. Can anyone here justify that comment that he made? I don't think even the staunchest Osgood supporters can.
-
You're entirely disregarding Lilja though.

There is nothing that I'd want from that garbage of a roster. Penner is about the worst idea I've ever heard. He's only briefly stopped sucking in my opinion. But more importantly, his contract is MUCH too large and too long. It would cripple any spending on more useful players that could be gotten for the same money. As far as the other players, every single one has a painful lack of at least one of the following: heart, work ethic, fitness, size/strength on the puck, hockey intelligence or simple skill. Yes, I really hate the Oilers. Edit: Don't forget class. People throw the word around too much, but really. If anyone is lacking, it's the Oilers.

He is quite amazing. My prayers have been answered! We have a new sirdrake! I particularly liked when he called another poster a wanker a few posts up.
-
Kwame, you are quickly becoming my favorite poster. The lead-in for this thread was beautiful. As for Tatar, the Wings love to over-develop their players. I'd be shocked if he was even up next year unless he REALLY starts tearing it up. He looks like he'll be good, but I say he'll be seeing another couple of seasons in the minors.
-
They'll pass Calgary within the week. We'll see about LA.
-
My impression certainly isn't that it would be definite that he wouldn't play. He should be back by then. Of course, he also should have been back a couple of weeks ago.
-
You're not a Wings fan. Chicago hasn't been good long enough for them to hate you. Apparently we have a "rivalry" with St. Louis.
-
This thread has become...interesting. I'm pretty sure 99% of people in Canada agree with this too, it's not just Americans.
-
Damn those are painful memories. Seriously. What an epic melt-down. (The team, not me thinking about it.) The way Cujo was dealt with was one of the very few times I can remember this organization handling things terribly.
