Not to alarm anyone, but Ansar also tweeted: Please be an equipment problem...

The only reason that we had the money to talk to Parise and Suter was because we had players on lower level contracts. If you want elite players, some of your other players will be of the quality of those you listed. In your ideal world (I assume) none of those players would be here and we'd have Parise and Suter. But then who fills those remaining roster spots? Parise and Suter are two players. The people who would fill the other roster spots would be B-level players such as the very players you listed. So what this really is, is that Holland set his roster up with the expectation of landing the two big fish. Your argument about that dead weight is really just re-hashing the same criticism that's seemingly never-ending here: that we couldn't land Parise and Suter.

Putting Brett Lebda on your 4th line and playing him 5 minutes in that position is not the same as dressing a 3rd/4th line forward as a defenseman. While your suggestion of dressing Helm in that slot is mildly more palatable than the previous suggestion of Emmerton, the transition is difficult. Very few forwards would be capable of just switching over to defense, especially with 2 days of preparation. Regardless, hopefully Kindl will be back (as is expected) and this will be irrelevant.

Yeah, and when Gustavsson got injured, why didn't we just dress Emmerton as the backup? ....

Sorry if this has already been asked: Is there a place to see the post-game press conference?

I don't recall hearing that his spleen was enlarged. Is there a source? While it's possible to have an enlarged spleen with mono, it's certainly not expected. When it does happen though, I believe it's 4-6 weeks from the time of diagnosis that he'd be out. Given that he'll already be out for a month it wouldn't really make a huge difference.

He wants to play in the KHL...specifically to fill the void that Datsyuk left on the team Fedorov manages. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/01/former_detroit_red_wings_great.html

The article says: But negotiations were only allowed to resume as of midnight eastern. So it seems like the person writing this article doesn't actually know anything, but is just re-hashing rumors that other people reported over the summer.

A ranking based on....? Is there an article? I mean, the first thing that pops to mind when I see the Phoenix Coyotes as the top-ranked NHL team, is that the list is bulls***. But I'm clearly missing the basis of how they're ranking teams, because even ESPN isn't that dumb.

Are you taking the cap into account? I'd assume so, in which case it's blatantly obvious that not only would he not be worth that sort of money, he couldn't get that money.

Hurricanes re-sign Jeff Skinner to 6-year extension.
Zetts replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
Good for him. Shows you how far salary inflation has gone though. This means that players like Hall and Eberle would be worth 6.5+. That's more than Zetterberg and almost as much as Datsyuk. Not that I'm complaining...it shows that the league is doing well. -
Wings & Yandle twitter-rumors? Believable?
Zetts replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
I've supported Holland to this point, but if he actually gave up all of that for Yandle, I'd have to seriously re-think my views. -
That's such a ridiculously bad roster...

Prospect pools are pretty big though...2 players shouldn't make the difference between top ten and bottom ten. The vast majority of these rankings are crap. I do agree though, we don't have a great system of prospects.

Not that it matters too much, since the money has to come from the cash-strapped owners, but an interesting piece of information anyways: USA Today: I'm guessing Poile is going to do everything he personally can to make sure Weber stays.

He's the highest paid coach in the NHL, and I don't believe there are any vacancies. So no. Not that it would have happened anyways.

Dominik Hasek's agent: "He will play, and he will excel"

I have to point out two facts that, when considered together, seem a little odd: 1. According to some article that was posted on LGW the other day (here), the Wings have the NHL's third best group of top 10 young players. 2. Janik, Exelby and Pyett leave GR and the defence there is screwed. (Janik and Exelby never having been Red Wings prospects in the first place.)

Take what picks? If the Wings don't accept the arbitrated salary, is he not a UFA? And he can't be offer-sheeted after filing for arbitration. Furthermore, do you really believe that anybody would give a first and a third up for him anyways? The Wings paid a premium because it was the deadline, there are now similar options available for nothing. We're not getting any picks, and we need Quincey.

Dear Mr. Holland: Forget about FA, trade for Yandle and Ryan
Zetts replied to YzermanRULES19's topic in General
I'm scared about what these trades (even one) could mean for our future. If we're objective, now that Smith and Nyquist are "graduating", our system of prospects is pretty bad. We have 2 or 3 solid forward prospects and a promising goaltender . After that, our system has no high-end talent. In one of these trades we'd certainly give up at least one of those few prospects. I'm not saying that such a trade is not worth it, but we do have to be aware of our farm system. The Wings need to start drafting better in a hurry, especially if we do make a trade like that. We're pretty unlikely to be at the top of the league anymore, so we have to capitalize on our higher draft position. Of course, if we're also giving away draft picks in the trades...- 61 replies

Great news! And a great attitude from him. The one part that I wondered about was this: I know that translations make it hard to really understand things...but it seems he's maybe saying that he'll leave NA if he doesn't get a spot on the Wings? Can anybody that knows Swedish shed some light on that part?

This is almost as bad as a fan of the Leafs trying to troll us. Congrats, you might actually make the playoffs this year. Do you want a round of slow claps? Your current roster has no chance at going anywhere near the cup.

Where do we go from here? Let's try a youth movement
Zetts replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
My impression is that Smith and Nyquist are locks for the roster regardless. If we're altering the course of our team around three additional mid-level propsects (Tatar, Sheahan and Andersson) and making moves based on the success of them, we're screwed. Ignoring this year's draftees, since it's much to early to tell with them, my only real optimism about our prospects lies in Jarnkrok, Mrazek and Jurco. Others might make the NHL, but from what I've seen they aren't likely to be significant difference-makers (and are therefore expendable and replaceable). -
Signing Semin (and for 7M at that) is about the only way this off season could get worse. Of course, if it's a one year deal, and we've got the cap space (as we will), such a mindblowing overpayment isn't as relevant.
