Wayyy back in the day, teams had only one jersey, the colored one. The Leafs were the first to add a white jersey, not for road games, but for any game against a team in blue jerseys. The Wings and Canadiens followed suit, wearing white by turns when they played each other. This is a great site: http://www.nhluniforms.com/

Wow, I thought I was the only one who hated the shootout! It would make more sense to decide the game with a fight between the goons from each team. Fans would really get into that.

Roy Edwards, without a doubt. I also miss Roger Crozier and Gump Worsley.
-
We're just getting warmed up! No argument about Hasek, though. He's a beast.

Time for the home run derby. Too bad--it has been an entertaining game.
-
Someone has probably mentioned this already, but the Wings were not exactly stellar in 4v4 overtime this season. It doesn't suit their pass-around style of play. Changing the format of playoff OT would put some teams (like ours) at a real disadvantage.
-
I would agree that P. Esposito belongs, too; it's hard to imagine the Bruins in the 60s-70s without him. I know a Montreal fan who thinks they've retired way too many numbers--he expects to see those three-digit numbers any day now!

Ha ha...you had me going until the 'we already have enough Cups' bit. It does raise an interesting question, though--why bother with the President's Trophy at all? With the new unbalanced schedule, it doesn't mean nearly as much as the Prince of Wales Trophy did in the O6 days. As things stand, NHL teams play 82 games of 'preseason' hockey, with nothing more at stake than a good seed in the games that really matter. The PT is a bit like first place in the Grapefruit League.

Crap--I had a bad feeling about this game from the start of the third period. A 3 goal lead is the kiss of death for these guys. I like the way the Wings came back in OT, though. The shootout is a joke, and I can't wait for the playoffs when we don't have to put up with it anymore.

I haven't lived in Detroit for a while, but I remember when NHLers were almost all Canadian and a lot of the Wings' fans were Canadians, too. When you think about it, it's amazing that the franchise has come so far.

3/24 GDT: St. Louis Blues @ Red Wings, 2:00 PM ET

Great--I've thought of doing that, too. Sometimes I turn the radio/TV off before a shootout. It is such a lame way to end a good hockey game. So how do those standings look? -
I keep hearing about a switch to white jerseys at home next season. Is this a rumor, or confirmed? Who is the source? I don't care, really. I would just like the NHL to make up its mind.

New theory: the hockey gods are wroth with the Red Wings for playing only twenty minutes per game. That is the only way to explain a) those three posts in the third b) the BJs scoring on another lame deflection, and c) Samuelsson in the shootout. Beware the wrath of the hockey gods!

It's hard to say what is more traditional in the NHL. In the 50s, the home team wore white jerseys for a while, but from the mid-50s through 69-70 they wore the colored jerseys at home. I remember my first game at Olympia in March, 1970, and the sight of Howe, Delvecchio and company taking the ice in bright red just blew me away.

Boston was wearing the third jersey today--hence the home whites. As an earlier poster mentioned, some teams look better in their whites (e.g. Montreal, Toronto), but the Wings are definitely better in Red. Maybe the League should give each team the option of choosing which jersey to wear at home--although that would probably make life miserable for equipment managers.

The URL is tigerscentral.com. Good forums, and a lot on the Tigers' history.

Have a look at tigerscentral.com. It reminds me a lot of LGW.

I hate the freaking shootout, but I'll take the two points. Way to go Oz! Roy would be proud of you.

The Wings will need a huge game from Osgood and the defense. The Preds are an opportunistic team, and if those 'probable' and 'questionable' guys really play tonight they will make something happen.
-
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. The Wings are not going to get drawn into a dogfight for the division that costs them in the playoffs. Maybe Nashville is playing it smart too.
-
Right, I think the Wings will do better when it's 5 on 5, and a turnover at the blue line doesn't sink them automatically. Regular season OT is exciting, but it's basically a skills exhibition, only slightly better than the SO.

Smart move--my hat is off to Holland. Little risk, possibly a great payoff. Wow.

Keep the RETRO thirds--they're all better than the current jerseys.
