I don't see Bert as having a good backhand. He has a good move where he goes to the backhand during shootouts/breakaways, but really, I can't think of a time i've seen him fire one on a whim. St. Louis was another guy mentioned, he has a move where he uses it in the shootout, but i havent seen him take one top shelf in the second period.

I think this may go against the rest of your post. If Yzerman hadn't saved the franchise, the organization may not have been in the position to find or draft Lidstrom. I know that is all very subjective, but without Yzerman, we may have been witnesses of an entirely different team than what we saw for the last 25 years.

Trade deadline acquisition or not, this team will not struggle to make the playoffs. The Wings will have home ice in the first round and i am confident that we can win the division with the team we have right now. Plus our D doesn't need to be "exponentially" better, they just need to be a bit better.

Don't sign anyone, at least not anyone for more than around 1 mil a year. I wanna see what the younger guys have with steady playing time. If it isn't working out we can be a trade deadline buyer. I'm looking forward to next season, it's gunna be interesting.

People will say nothing matters but the cup. The season was truly a failure without it. But i like this, it was still a great season, and a very entertaining season. I love this team and i will never stop watching.

Howard deserves a shot to play as a backup. Every time he has seen NHL playing time he was called up for a few days, and sent back down. He needs time to get comfortable up here. We will still have home ice in the first round of the playoffs even if our goalies don't play as well as they could. We need as much cap space as possible and I think Conklin could get 2-2.5 mil somewhere else, definately out of our range.

Not trying to start a huge debate here, but that goal just can't be the turning point. The Wings responded the next game with a lopsided victory. If anything, that 5-0 game was the turning point. The Pens figured something out going into the next game and the Wings offense was nearly non-existent in the final two games. -
The number one pick for rights to a guy who won't sign with them. Not gunna happen.

That doesn't make sense. A win this year would be just as sweet as a win next year. The Red Wings are a team of now, as in they should have won the cup. There is no reason to be glad we lost.

There is a gray area by the red line, if you are "close" when you dump it you are fine. From what I saw he was close. I bet there was a similar play when the wings dumped it that didn't lead to a goal.

Malkin definately deserved it. Sure he didn't score once Pavel was back, but he did what Pav did all playoffs. He stepped up his defense, he was great in his own end. I hate to say it, but he may have just become the most complete player in the NHL, ahead of Pav.

Hossa has been playing like Sammy lately. He's not willing to work for shots, he just fires it from anywhere. I hope he can bring some passion in game 7 or i don't even want the wings to think about signing him.

You know, you're probably right. Maybe the NHL is doing it wrong. They found a guy to promote endlessly, but they keep saying they want parity. I guess what I should have said is that based on what the NHL "wants", it would be bad.

Recent deep playoff runs from teams like Anaheim (7 & 8 seeds), Edmonton (8 seed), and Calgary (6 seed) is why the playoffs wont change to 8 playoff teams instead of 16. If it was set-up the way you described it, we may have seen a couple more cups for Detroit, which would be great for us, but bad for hockey.

It's not laughable at all. No Hank does not mean Datsyuk is back (not saying you implied this, but still). No Hank and no Dats means we would be relying on Hudler, Cleary, and Sammy to be a productive second line on both ends of the ice. Also we would have a 4th line full of kids who wouldn't see much ice, meaning more ice-time and more fatigue for our top two lines. A sweep would certainly be a decent possibilty without our two best forwards.

So empty net point takes away from his value to the team? Without Zetterberg we would have lost at least one of the first two home games, which would pretty much end the series since we didn't win one in Pitt with Zetterberg. Zetterberg shutting down Crosby has been absolutely massive and without that we would be getting blown out.

Hughson is the man. I love it when he says "Great save Luongo", except when a Detroit player is shooting of course. I was rather unhappy when he started doing the 7:00 HNIC Toronto games.
