Kindl is indeed out of minor league options after this season, as is Ritola if I remember correctly. Also, Helm is officially a full time Wing... there's no way in hell he goes back to GR next season and there's also no way he isn't re-signed. Abdelkader still looks like he needs AHL seasoning so he can get his scoring game back, but he could go either way, so we can leave him off the definite list for now. It'd pretty tough to be even a bit overweight in the NHL. You have to have ridiculous skill you can fall back on (see Brett Hull at the tail end of his career).

I don't think you should take much flak for that considering that it's true.

Well the good news is that there's no way Abdelkader or Helm end up costing around 2 million each Helm's a great young player but his top potential is still as a 3rd line player. It would be tough for his agent to parlay that into 2 million a year at this point. Abdelkader's best chance at a payday was to show management that his scoring would translate to the NHL level and that he'd continue to progress into a future 2nd line player. Unfortunately his offensive upside didn't really show much this season so far, with Helm outshining him in that department. His best chance for a payday would've been to play another season in GR and put strong numbers up there. He was banking on getting paid for potential, and this season hasn't really helped him in that department. He'll have to settle for a cheap contract and prove himself in time for the next one.

I don't think it's all that cruel. Ozzie knows who the team is really relying on to carry them in the playoffs. This is his chance to go out there and steal us a win against a team that is currently far superior to the Wings.

The big problem here lays in how bad our 2nd PP's back end is. Stuart has been playing amazing this year but he's no Kronwall. And Meech? Well he's Meech.

Of all those points the lack of compete level disturbs me most. You can blame the PP troubles on the lack of sufficient personnel on the 2nd PP unit, but nothing excuses the lack of compete at this point in the season. What other motivation could they ask for?

As well as Colorado, LA, Nashville and Vancouver. If we can get those 5 teams to piss of for a bit we're set.

Actually that's the first thing that came up on the NHL.com summary when I was watching it. Once I refreshed it was the one we see now. Must've been a momentary error on the NHL website's side that the writer on the MLive site ran with.
