Now for a few stats I calculated myself (note that I've only ranked the top 30 goalies for comparison's sake): Winning Percentage = Games Won / Games Started (over-counts games won but not started, but those are uncommon) Point Percentage = Pts earned (W and OT) / Maximum Pts possible (2 x Games Started) Jimmy: W%: 0.609 (Rank: 11th in the league) Pt%: 0.652 (Rank: 8th in the league)

What a stupid, premature thread. Leino's not even done his rookie season and you're comparing him to a guy who couldn't make himself stick in Detroit and went to another team. By all means-- give up on Leino. He's on pace for a better rookie season than Filppula and that guy ended up being pretty useful.

Those losses are deceptive given that the Wings have been shut out 6 of the last 17 games coming into tonight. It's hard to blame Howard's 1-0 and 3-0 losses on him. Regardless, the stats don't lie: Howard: Record: 13-8-2 W: 13 (15th in the league, with every goalie above him having played 2-15 more games) Sv%: 0.921% (Tied for 10th in the league) GAA: 2.25 (8th in the league) Osgood: Record: 7-6-4 W: 7 (Tied for 35th in the league) Sv%: 0.901 (38th in the league) GAA: 2.72 (27th in the league) Look, no one's arguing that Ozzy isn't captain clutch in the playoffs, but so far his record just can't come close to Howard's. Right now Howie is a top 10 goaltender in this league based on the stats. And he's hardly been doing that with a strong Wings team in front of him.

GMR-- I've watched more than a couple of games with you on justin.tv and let's be honest-- Leino's your main focus for ridicule. You might mock other players on occasion but 80% of your comments are directed at Leino. I agree that they look lifeless and pathetic out there and I WISH they would've punished the Hawks physically. But dirty hits? I'd rather they didn't go that far. Pound them with legal checks. Is there any excuse for this play? No. Not one. Datsyuk and Lidstrom are elite players and they didn't create a tiny shred of offense over the last two games. These were the worst times to phone it in. Now the Hawks are 10pts away from us.
