WOOOOHOOOO! The Wings are finally on the happy end of a turn-over! Suck it Phaneuf!
-
Agreed. While I'd love to see us win a game 2-1, 3-1 or 8-1 would be better
-
Calling the 3rd the 4rd is a time honoured tradition on these boards
-
Two options-- either quietly sobbing in a corner somewhere with burnt Holmstrom hockey cards scattered around him. Or he's sucking it.
-
I do Marcus. And I know why: Hustle.
-
Anyone else think this team looks like the Detroit Red Wings again?
-
That would be JakeRyan. But he can suck it.
-
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Good job snagging that puck Datsyuk! Great ply by Dat and nice shot by Holmer. 7 Goals for Tomas Holmstrom. Suck it JakeRyan. Suck it.
-
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Stuart with his first point of the season! Good on ya Stew!
-
Meech is surrounded by an aura of fail and 'meester by an aura of win.
-
Man oh man. Look at Helm before and after he was benched. It's night and day. Babs should take turns benching everyone on this team for one game given how well that benching worked.
-
True. He's funny though.
-
lollerskates. That's interference?

LET'S GO WINGS! LET'S GO WINGS! LET'S GO WINGS! LET'S GO WINGS!

No one comments on my Little People, Big World line? Mocking Lebda/Meech size is usually gold around here
-
Agreed. Our bottom 6 forwards have been carrying the offensive pressure so far this year. Once the top 6 get rolling we'll be doing much better. On the plus side it's pleasant to see the Wings without a goal against through 20 mins!
-
Yikes. Thanks for the mental image man.
-
Good to see Crosby fighting without scrotum punches. Still, I'd rather see Semin do another drum solo.
-
Maybe because we always end up with a black eye when the other team's on the PP?
-
What a save by Kipper! I thought Draper had that goal for sure. Nice pass by Eaves. So with Ericsson a victim of the Oilers' flu bug I think I've got a good name for our 3rd pairing: "Little People, Big World" Or, if you don't like that one, how about: "The Little Couple" Can you tell my girlfriend likes watching TLC?

So, with Lilja still having headaches it's looking increasingly likely that he'll be out until late in the season, possibly even the whole season if we're unlucky. Lebda and Meech can't pair be reliably paired up with a rookie d-man due to their defensive failings. Although it should be noted that Lebda was not a minus last night, which is a nice change of pace Imagine that you work for the Wings and Holland asks you to submit a three player wish list of 3rd pairing d-men you'd like to add to the team to fill Lilja's vacant role. Please pick guys who actually fit the role in question-- we'd all love Schenn but he's not going to be traded for a realistic price It'd be great to get Quincey back here but again, he'd never get traded unless it's for more than he's worth. Also, no point in saying Kindl since he's worse defensively than Lebda and he'd be a rookie anyway, which means he'd probably be a trainwreck paired up with another rookie d-man. Also note that Ericsson is tied for 11th in the NHL in defensive scoring with 1 less point than Phaneuf, so we don't need an offensive d-man to pair up with him, we need a strong, veteran stay at home guy. Here are my choices: 1. Ladislav Smid (Edmonton) --> he was on the trading block for Heatly, so he might be available if you dangled a good prospect and a roster d-man for him. He'd probably take a really good prospect to get, but this is a wish list anyway. 2. Matt Walker (Tampa Bay) --> He's got a great +/- right now (+7) and he's on Tampa Bay, so he's probably available 3. Sean O'Donnel (LA)--> Looks good right now, but that might be because his team is constantly winning... Anyway, I'm not really knowledgable about teams that aren't wearing a winged wheel, so your suggestions would help!

Scoring was the only place he struggled. He had 2 goals in the first 4 games then he had 7 games with only an assist. He's been hitting posts and shooting wide/high. This is Babs way of trying to reignite him. It worked will with Hudler, so hopefully it'll work for Leino. We know Leino's capable of playing top-6 quality hockey... it's time for him to get back to doing that.

Agreed. Abdelkader's proved he can score at the AHL level and he's proved he can score in the Cup finals. This is a great chance for him to prove he's a scoring 3rd liner or even a 2nd liner. He should be trying to make it impossible for Holland to send him back down when Franzen returns.
-
I think I might have gotten you confused with the guy who called him a bust and said his career potential is a 3rd/4th liner. Sorry. It's more about his play last season in the NHL call-up, his play in the AHL and his play in the preseason this year (point per game). Based on that various hockey pundits had him as a Calder candidate (though, obviously no one had him as their #1 pick). So scouts, experience and hockey pundits all agree he's a potential top six forward. Right now he's in a slump so Babs is scratching him and calling him out in the media... reminds me of how Babs would motivate Hudler when he was in a slump-- especially early in his career.

The Wings better win tonight. My stress levels can't take any more of this s***ty play. The Wings need to limit the Flamers to 2 goals or less. Helm and Eaves playing on the 3rd is a clear indication to Leino from Babs that the players who play the best the night before earn their spots. I'm betting Leino comes out with a fire under his ass against Boston.
