So you concede he's a very good player but you said he won't live up to expectations. Who expected him to be more than a very good player!? What expectations do you think I had? As far as scouting goes-- I like to rely on actual scouts through the power of reading.

Terrible thing to say, but funny ass picture.

lollerskates.

Sums it up perfectly in 3 lines. I wish my posts were this succinct.

Here's the post you're referring too. I stumbled on it just now and thought I'd cross-post it. Original post by KrazyGangsta

Scouting the league-- who can replace Lilja?
Drake_Marcus replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
Add to that the fact that Ilitch and the owner of the 'Canes are bitter enemies. No way a trade goes down between the two unless it's a 3-way with the 'Canes unaware of the Wings' presence in the deal. -

Remember that 11 games is a worthless sample size. Michael DelZotto won't lead d-men in 82 games. Frolov won't be a >1ppg player in 82 games. The Avalanche won't be the cream of the crop after 82 games. People put far, far, far too much stock in the first dozen games of the season. Talk to me in 41 games and we'll shoot the s*** about the real players/teams. Talk to me in 60 games and we'll see the same cream rising to the top of both conferences and the scoring lists. Hockey season is long long LONG. 11 games is a drop in the bucket-- 13% of the total year. Look at who was hot s*** this time last year. At this point in 2007 Zetterberg was destroying the scoring race with 2 points per game. He ended up just a bit above 1ppg. This season's bit a bit odder than usual, but based on experience there's no doubt in my mind that things will sort themselves out after 82 games. For example, Ericsson is tied for 11th in the league in defensive scoring. If he's still there after 82 games he's a top 5 Calder candidate. Given how many minutes he gets a game and his lack of PP time I really doubt he'll be that high in scoring after 82 games. Still, if we project Ericsson's 11 game sample size to 82 games he'll score 22g and 37a for 59pts as a rookie 3rd pairing d-man. Those are Calder winning numbers. Should I put money down on it in Vegas? No. I'd be thrilled if it happened, though, as a huge Ericsson fan. -
You're not exactly an astute evaluator of talent.

I agree 100%. This should light a fire under Leino's ass for sure.

He got paid way more in Europe. He put in a year in the AHL to get into the Wings org. He's 25 years old man, what else do you expect? How long do you take the significantly lower paying job in hopes of getting your dream job before you go home to your family and take the next best thing? He tore it up in the AHL and deserves his NHL roster spot. The Wings consider him an important piece. A quote in a press clipping about wanting to play in the NHL is hardly a comment on his work ethic. If he were drafted at the standard age of 18 he'd have already put in 7 years in the minors. 25 year old prospects say s*** like that all the time.

Well given how the Wings have played I can't blame you. I'm just the kind of guy who thinks they'll win every game... I know they won't go 82-0, but I expect they will try. haha Sorry about Malkin. Sounds like injuries are plaguing the teams that went deep this summer. Is Carolina hurt right now? I know Boston, Chicago, and we are. Good luck with your picks too.
-
Helm or Eaves?!? The only time they're suited to a shootout is in the 11th and 12th round.
-
Well Zetterberg's never been an elite shootout guy like Pavel. Williams is known to be good in the SO but last night's effort was a bit weak. One problem is we lost a top 3 shootout guy in Hudler, which hurts us. Last night Bertuzzi would've gone 4th for sure, if we'd managed to get that far. Bertuzzi's been as hot as you can be without racking up tons of points. If posts counted as goals points he'd be leading the league in goals. I can't blame Howard for the shootout loss, though-- he was strong in the SO... the shot that beat him was a perfect shot. He was also strong in the last 10 mins of the game and in OT. Too bad he took two periods to get his s*** together.

Scouting the league-- who can replace Lilja?

Someone who was tied for 3rd in total points amongst defensemen last year and makes 6 million a year is an untradeable contract? What does that make Campbell's contract then?!? -

Sutton is a great choice-- I didn't think of him, but the contract status and his team make him a much easier guy to aquire than someone like Smid who's team is currently doing well. Plus I think the Oil consider Smid a valuable piece and would demand a decent amount for him. The Islanders are managed like a 13 year old's NHL10 team, so I'm sure you could steal Sutton much easier. Good point on O'Donnell too. -
You're not picking us to win on Saturday? Ouch Have some faith in your favourite western team.
-
Ditching extra weight eh? Don't tell Bertuzzi's giant ass you plan on doing that.

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...rt_in_goal.html Before you spaz please consider the fact that he's backed into a corner right now so maybe he'll come out fighting like a mad dog. EDIT: For the record, if the Wings want to bring in a new goalie I pray they can get Halak for a good price. He's consistently outperformed Price, which is no small feat.

I like these lines but I'd rather see Abdelkader centre the 3rd and Williams stay on the wing. He seems better when he's got less defensive responsibility and the centre position is the most demanding defensively. Keep Leino and Datsyuk together-- they seem to have good chemistry and Dats is the perfect guy to get Leino going and help bring his confidence back up. Leino's been playing fine he's just been snake-bit when it comes to posts and missing the net by inches. He's got to be second only to Bertuzzi and Lidstrom in posts lately.

I think that is how it works for everything other than the LTIR cap relief. The idea behind LTIR is only to allow for replacement players, not to accumulate cap space. Otherwise teams up against the cap would get bonus cash by having injured players out for a while.
-
This is how I used to think too, but apparently LTIR doesn't remove the player's hit from the cap it only allows the team to find a replacement valued up to the original player's cap hit. Niedermeyer was suspended, so that's a whole different situation than LTIR.
-
Yeah, from what I've read LTIR time doesn't accumulate cap cash. I used to think it did but apparently that's not how it works. So once Franzen comes back his cap space disappears. Basically the point is that you can't have a team with a roster that's worth more than the cap max at any point. So once Franzen comes back his replacement has to go. If Franzen were supposed to be out until the playoffs it'd make sense to pick someone up since there is no cap in the playoffs, but he's due back any time from the first week of February onwards.
