Why are the Wings committing so many turnovers?
Drake_Marcus replied to Icesurfer's topic in General
Ahh... makes sense. I read your first post and thought "where have I heard that before?". lol Man... I spend way too much time reading Wings stuff online. -
Holy crap. That kid fights like he's on PCP.
-
See, you've gotta have more faith in their ability to plummet back down to Earth and explode on impact. I mean it is the Kings.
-
I wouldn't put Lilja in with Vlady or Fisch, but yeah, we're not lucky in that department. I mean why couldn't it be Kopecky? *sigh* I really hope we're done with the tragedy. Don't forget Grigoranko-- he went from WJC MVP to shattered femur to blood clot in the lungs to narrowly surviving death to bust on us.
-
That's because he lives in the meca of hockey writing-- Toronto. The Globe and Mail was the biggest trumpeter of the shrinking cap scenario. Not that that scenario was impossible, it just didn't seem very likely given incoming $ figures at the time(s).
-
No surprises on the cap figure. The economic estimates in terms of season ticket and pre-sold advertising has never spelled gloom and doom, only national sports writers

Anyone going to the games on Nov 5th or 12th?

See that's exactly why I want a kid. Plus they grow up so you have lots of excuses to buy them customized jerseys without having to explain it to the old lady. Must be why my youngest brother had his first Steelers jersey before he could crawl. -

Did you post this comment on the Mlive site? I was expecting the username to be the same, but that's not always the case across the net. -
YES PLEASE. Frolov just oozes talent. I'd kill to have that kid here. Maybe he has an attitude problem, maybe his club is just horribly managed. I do know that we've played nice and been trading partners with the Kings recently in the Stuart trade, so it's not impossible. Oh, and it helps that the Kings have a history of losing great players for almost nothing

Haha. I'll play the politician here and pretend I thought you were asking if we could get a replacement for Franzen at the deadline if he were going to stay out until the playoffs. There's no cap in the playoffs (which is why the Pens could bring their previously waived s***burger up from the AHL that they'd already replaced). So let's plan for that. Hold Franzen back until the playoffs and pray he instantly returns for form (also give him the max time in the minors for reconditioning). Now use that money to get a 4 million dollar pro-rated replacement at the deadline and we're good to go. So yeah, maybe we can have Kovy if we're going to sell the farm.

I just fixed it. No wait-- I just double checked... it is 21,000: http://redwings.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=5...vid=DL|DET|home -
I wanted Peca in the summer too, but the fact that he's got no takers right now speaks volumes for where his career is. The first point of comparison I can think for why that might not be a fair assessment would be Shanny last year, but it's worth noting that he wasn't willing to move far outside the NY area. In this case it seems that the entire NHL has spurned Peca's agent's advances... so really, doesn't that say something? As far as a previous poster said about having young guys who can kill penalties goes... well I agree that we have some young 3rd/4th line guys who need a shot soon, we've already got 4 permanent rookies on the roster PLUS Abdelkader. 5 rookies on a 23 man Red Wings roster is unprecedented as it is, I can't imagine Holland will push it farther. We're not in rebuilding mode. On a brighter note Tatar got his first AHL game in last night. He's officially the youngest player in the AHL and managed to put up an assist and be a +1 in his first game, a 7-2 loss to San Antonio's "Coyote high draft pick bonanza" team.
-
I'm glad you're saying it though, because the way I've read it before I was under the impression that it did accrue cap space, which clearly it doesn't. It seems like I'm not the only one who was mixed up on that, so it's definitely a point that's worth repeating.

Wanna trade yours for a Maple Leafs or Canadians calendar? That's all they sell around here. No, wait, I'm wrong-- sometimes you see the odd Penguins one for sale at the mall. :puke: -
Yup. The NY-NJ rivalry can't be underestimated. But really, isn't having tuesday and wednesday enough of a rest for King Henrik? Also, shouldn't Zetterberg be the real King Henrik?
-
Don't worry, they'll slow down. Eventually nearly all these teams that are playing outside their skill level will come back down to earth. This year's been really weird for that, though. I wonder how long this will last. It's kind of funny that lots of us thought the Leafs would be much improved due to their revamped defense and now they're worse. Although, for the record, I think the Leafs will pull it together and be an average team or maybe even slightly above average, if only because they have such a strong defensive core now.

Please, anyone who reads this-- pray every night that the Hawks are unable to move Huet or Campbell and are forced to let a young star go because of the salary cap. My big fear is that their terrible management decisions (buying expensive free agents for well above their market value) won't come back to haunt them this summer. I'll be pissed at whoever relieves them of those two grossly overpaid players if they do manage to peddle them to some chump. I imagine that anyone who takes them as a salary dump will demand quality prospects and or picks as compensation and will do so at a steep price given that everyone and their do knows how f***ed the Hawks brass are this summer.
-
Yeah, that was my mistake.
-
Sell that line to Avery for the next time he plays the Devils.
-
I hadn't seen the goal from that view. Hilarious. It looks like a gap-seeking missile.
-
That's true, yeah. Who fits the bill then? Kovy makes, what, 300 million a year? Plus he'd demand a Hossa-like package in a trade, and the Pens sold their farm to get Hossa that year, which is something Holland would never do.
-
Pretty much. I'd say it safe to say that they'd pick a 2.5 million dollar player at the deadline if Franzen's out longer than 5 months and the right piece is out there for the right price. At this point it's all about maximizing your opportunity, which means taking advantage of Lidstrom's presence while he's still around (hopefully he can play for at least 3 more years, which looks very possible given how well he's held up to the march of time so far).

Deja vu. I just read that article. -
Close enough... 2.925 million would be 75% of his cap hit. 2.5 million would leave more wiggle room.
