Holland is too smart to get fleeced. I'd rather stick with what works than be Calgary and make handfuls of trades that amount to shuffling deck chairs.

Agreed, plus McCollum is deep into bust territory right now. Edit: Spelling

Hudler: 54gp 17g 34pts 15:05 min/game 22.4%shooting 11 blks 33 hits 5'10" 186lbs $2,875,000 cap hit Semin: 50gp 14g 33pts 16:45 min/game 13.5%shooting 12 blks 24 hits 6'2" 209lbs $6,700,000 cap hit It speaks volumes about just how much is wrong with Semin right now that he's neck and neck with a midget getting 2nd/3rd line mins. So is Semin scoring more than Hudler? No. Producing more in fewer mins? No. Shooting better? No. Hitting more? No. More talented? Yes. Signed next season? No. Honestly it's arguable he'd even be more than a lateral move if we're comparing each player's output this season. And Semin's playoff play? Yikes... 0g 2a in 7gp two years ago, 4g 2a in 9gp last year. So basically you want to trade Hudler for a guy making more than anyone else on the Wings but producing less offence than Hudler. AND you want to throw tons of other s*** in the deal too like one of our top prospects (Tatar). From Washington's prespective they get guy who can produce as much as Semin in less ice time PLUS $3,825,000 in cap relief (noting that Washington has$0 in cap space right this season). Holland would have to be a meth addict to make that trade. lol

There's a reason why Carter's still in Columbus and not rumoured to be on a specific team's radar. At the moment his baggage (personal and financial) far outweighs the benefits of his on-ice play.

It's a sign of true haters when a guy with Lidstrom's resume gets put there . Honestly-- if Lidstrom was Canadian and performed for our Olympic team like he did for the Swedes you'd see a lot less of that silliness. I'm definitely not being a homer when I place Lidstrom beside Orr. You hear the same stuff from professional hockey analysts with only a few exceptions (Melrose and Millbury, but both those guys have hilarious bad resumes as hockey minds).

Red Wings hope Winter Classic can persuade Nicklas Lidstrom to return
Drake_Marcus replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
That's being unfair to Forsberg (who I dislike on a personal level but respect as a player). Forsberg never treated the subject of a comeback like Brett Farve. The only thing limiting Forsberg was his ghetto foot, his intentions should never be doubted. I honestly feel bad for Forsberg because he was never able to end his career on his own terms. Farve, on the other hand, is an attention-seeking jackass. Forsberg's aborted comebacks came down to the fact that there's no simulating NHL action. Just because he could stand up to play in the SEL and in NHL practice didn't mean his foot would stand up to NHL play. Once he tried it and realized this he stepped aside until a friend or doctor convinced him otherwise. -
Players have been giving Lidstrom that respect for a while. I think it comes from three places: 1) he's a living legend and he's treated accordingly (whether consciously or not) by the players and refs, 2) he doesn't drill other players or really develop any kind of physical antagonistic relationship and 3) Lidstrom has a history of slipping checks and making the other guy look silly. A check that you're not likely to actually land is worse than no check at all. Like you said: a guy like Kronwall will always get hit harder by the other team than a guy who plays the game as elegantly as Lidstrom. Gretzky was treated the same way by the end of his career. Lidstrom's a guy people mention in the same breath as Orr. And really, it's hard to make an argument for any defenseman other than Orr being as singularly dominant as Lidstom has been in his era. Guys like Bourque and Coffey had peers, Lidstrom and Orr never did.

I'd just show Lidstrom the game tape of that game the Wings played verses Montreal when he was out. Then I'd pause the tape, turn to him and say "Q.E.D.". Lidstrom is a player that influences a team so deeply it's almost like the relationship between a quarterback and his team. Trying to make things work without him will be really tough, especially since the team's defensive stats aren't amazing right now to begin with. Asking him to play for the league minimum would be an insult no matter how you spin it. -
I'll need three so my father, brother and I can go.
-
Kovy manhandled him. Wow!

Honestly I wish we could say that for all of our players. One thing Bert does that drives me nuts is try to make silly, fancy passes that are way too risky. I wish he had that kind of good sense.

It's also worth noting that at Gordie's age memory's quite a common problem. I know it's just wishful thinking but hopefully his symptoms will continue to be limited to short-term memory issues.

Dementia is a terrible, terrible disease that is so damn hard for families. My heart goes out to the Howes.

I'm just glad Vancouver didn't play their star goaltender last night.

The important thing here is that he's still got a shot at breaking 48 wins.

Who Could be Dealt at the Deadline?
Drake_Marcus replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
If E goes you can bet Holland is 100% positive he'll retain Stuart or Lidstrom will return (unlikely). Holland's not a big fan of having a huge turn-over between any two years. With Lidstrom and Stuart likely leaving I doubt he'd want fully half of the top six d-core gone. The number of players moving out of our D really worked to Ericsson's advantage when he signed his contract this summer. -

So we're going to be sellers?!? Also: hell no to Rutuu when Jokinnen is such a better choice -
Overpaying for a rental would be a terrible idea. Sign him on July 1st.

I'd LOVE to have Konopka on this team the man's a great team player and he can take a face-off too.

I feel kind of sad saying this, but I think Miller makes the team better than Abdelkader does. Sure Abs hits things, and he does that well, but Miller does everything else better. Am I crazy here? I just hate that Miller and Eaves have to platoon the 4th line when they're both really great at what they do.

What happened to Zetterberg's scoring touch?
Drake_Marcus replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
Funny thing about Ozzy: he's had bigger scoring seasons than Gomez this year. BOOM. -
This would be my guess as well.
-
Poor effort by everyone last night. I can't help but wonder how much of that disaster had to do with Lidstrom being out. Sure he's a stabilizing influence out there but damn, I hope we won't be that bad when he retires.

As someone that collected a lot of hockey cards a few years ago (07-10ish) I can tell you ITG is a fantastic company. Probably the highest quality group of people out there. They're small and really committed to quality and customer service. I can't say enough good things about these guys. Do note that they're a collector card company and the price per card can be a bit high, but you get the best quality stuff out there. The bigger companies often use clear stickers that are hard signed by players than stuck on any card the company feels like using it on for the next decade, but ITG does it the right way and gets individual signatures on quality paper stock for the best looking cards out there.

And here I was blaming Maltby's retirement.
