If he finishes the season with 15+ goals and 40+ points it's 1.5 million dollars well spent. He won't be getting 1st line ice time here like he did in Calgary, but I think he stands a good chance of hitting or topping 15 goals.

He was-- in every single offensive category, both on the Red Wings and in the National Hockey League as a whole. You're right there (execept for the anything else part-- he definitely had the drive and determination needed to play, it's tough as hell to be a midget in the NHL but he did it well). If he had Franzen's body he'd be a superstar.

Nailed it. Bertuzzi had 2 shootout winners on 3 attempts last year as a Flame (tops on the team), so he'll definitely be a staple of the shootout now. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see Williams and Franzen switched in that order. EDIT: Whoops-- glaring error: Datsyuk is always first in the shootout order. He's easily one of the best (if not the best) one on one players in the league.

You should know by now that the Wings always air on the side of "veteran". And like it or not, those four are all technically rookies until they have "full" seasons. It's not necessarily an issue with maturity as much as it's an issue with predicting what you'll get over the course of a campaign. When was the last time you remember us having 4 rookies set to play full time (not injury replacements) on the squad in October?

Don't undersell Ericsson's potential. He's a top flight prospect at this point. He stepped in as a rookie and played top 4 minutes during the string of injuries in the playoffs. Not only did he do it well, he was impressive. During the playoffs Bob McKenzie was so impressed he said he thought Ericsson could win a Norris at some point in the next 10-15 years. That's pretty high praise for a kid that was drafted last overall- clearly he wasn't basing it on Jon's draft position (draft order based analysis being something that's far too common in the prospect rating community).
