Huh? The quote reads: "the Wings may have to make a move to clear salary cap space". As in the author has no ******* clue what the contract's price tag is.
-
Hahaha. Yeah, I've always really liked Hudler. Almost spent $50 on a 1 of 10 Hudler hockey card this year (I'm lucky my girlfriend gave me the stink eye on that one). If we're going to take a chance on a player I'd take it on Prospal before Williams.

That's like using Jonathan Ericsson to counter Lidstrom's retirement.

Eklund posted this 9 hours ago. Not one single hockey blogger on the net is willing to pass it along or even mention it. Shouldn't that tell you everything you need to know? Why does anyone even read hockeybuzz? All he does is post s*** from legitimate bloggers/writers and pretend he thought of it. I'm willing to bet that every single thing he types that turns out to be true can be traced to another internet source, not his special inside sources.

NHL Investigating Hossa & Pronger's contracts
Drake_Marcus replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
He's missing the first 25% of the season. That's hardly someone who "might give them 1/3 to 1/2 of a season". -
I'll wait until a legitimate hockey reporter says it before I think about the implications.
-
Sort of. He's usually good for 20 goals a season, though. 08/09: 82 games / 19 G / 26 A / 45 pts 07/08: 80 games / 33 G / 38 A / 71 pts 06/07: 82 games / 14 G / 41 A / 55 pts 05/06: 81 games / 25 G / 55 A / 80 pts 03/04: 82 games / 19 G / 35 A / 54 pts 02/03: 82 games / 22 G / 57 A / 79 pts 01/02: 81 games / 18 G / 37 A / 55 pts 00/01: 79 games / 5 G / 24 A / 29 pts 99/00: 79 games / 22 G / 33 A / 55 pts The handful of seasons earlier than these he was still figuring out the game. As you can see, he's had a steady output of about 20 goals a season for quite some time. He's 34, but I don't think his productive years have completely passed. He's only one year removed from a 71 pt season. His off years seem to be 50 pts with his on years at 80 pts.

With Prospal's buy out the Wings could offer him anything in the range of $750,000 to $1,500,000 and he'd be making 2.25-3 million a year all tings considered. Of course there are like 28 other teams thinking the same thing.
-
Not sure why-- be it contract disputes, a change in direction or some other reason, but the Stars were only playing elite hockey in 07-08 when Zubov was healthy. Remove Zubov and they're in big trouble. Look at their record when he's playing vs when he's injured- it's night and day. Honestly, the Stars are now in desperate need of a #1 defenseman who can QB the PP.
-
Yup. The KHL had decided to cite two cases where NHL teams signed marginal KHL players to contracts and are using that as a free ticket to poach NHL stars and emerging stars.
-
The fact that an offer was made was confirmed. The price they offered him has not been confirmed. Given that Williams seemed unimpressed and unhappy with the offer, and given how retarded the rumoured amount is, it's safe to assume the contract offered was significantly lower than 2.5 million. They offered the contract 2 weeks ago. In this market, Williams would've jumped at a $300,000 raise. He's flat out said the balls in the Wings' court, meaning he's tossed a number back at him. No way he thinks he can get more than 2.5 million a season from the Wings in this situation. That 2.5 million dollar number is utter bulls***. Take a look at the numbers more closely, there was no way to intelligently add a >5 million dollar Hossa to this roster. The Wings would have had to ditch committed veteran players like Draper and Holmstrom along with convincing some of their NTC players to go. That would be suicide for the Wings' lockerroom/team culture.
-
So we're basing Holland's managerial skills on rumoured situations?
-
And it's a plan that would increase the likelihood of the KHL poaching players, which is also bad for the league.
-
Not surprising considering Reinsdorf's bid is an amazing low ball offer that should piss off everyone who stands to lose money (but not the NHL because they're among a special class of creditors that get paid first).

The arbiter has 48 hours to render a decision.
-
This is a huge blow to the Stars.
-
Sounds pretty retarded. I have to call bull-s*** on this rumour. Big time.

The team we saw in games 6 and 7 was very much the result of the circumstances-- tired, worn down, injured and not quite as hungry as their opponent. Games 6 and 7 were the inevitable results of the Wings playing the first 3 games in 4 days, especially given that they had a week less recovery time than the other team after the conference (read: 3 days). Add on the injuries and it's hard for the Wings to carry the necessary energy through a 7 game series that was rushed through and scheduled at the convenience of NBC. All that being said, they definitely lost on their own-- there's no excuse for Hossa disappearing, Rafalski getting beaten by everyone and their uncle and the entire team suddenly forgetting how to score. After game 2 we had them by the throat and they ended up winning. There's no excuse for losing a series after you were up 2-0.

This. For today's Williams we know the following: --> Scored 19 goals on mediocre teams last year. --> Put up 7 PPG, 7 PPA and 4 GWG. --> Managed to finish with 47 pts in 80 games (and thus he's a far cry from being a full replacement for Hudler) --> Right hand shot that can play the point on the PP --> Lacks size and grit --> Disappears in the playoffs (only 1 career goal, only managed one point (assist) in 4 postseason games this year) --> If brought in will likely play the 2nd PP point, thus stealing minutes from Ericsson (who we should invest the time in) --> Doesn't appear to want to be a Red Wing based on his recent radio interview --> Doesn't provide PK or defensive savvy --> Might be expensive for what he actually provides For me, the negatives definitely out-weigh the positives with Jason Williams.

That's the key point. When I have kids I'll definitely drive that point home. A sense of entitlement has never helped a person. It's actually an article in Sports Illustrated. You can read article in question here: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writ...1/lincecum0707/ It's a good read in my opinion.

I read that somewhere in a linked story on the Snapshots blog earlier this week. It wasn't related to "Booth News" as far as I remember, but it did say they'd talked to his agent but hadn't offered a contract. If we're talking about the regular season 25 goal Sykora I'd be happy to have him here. If we're talking about the guy who was scratched for almost the entire Penguins playoff run I'd rather not. The big question is who would show up at camp...

I want another Drake because of how he played in game 6 verses Dallas. The Wings were looking sluggish and outplayed early in that game. At the time we were up 3-2 in the series and a loss would've put the entire series in the hands of the Stars. What does Drake do? He goes out and hits everyone who isn't wearing red. I think he had 3 great hits in one shift at one point. He also managed to score a goal and get an assist of my memory serves me. Those two points weren't as important as that one super-charged energy shift he had. After that shift the entire Wings bench looked better and started playing with passion. He was probably the most important player in that game because his one shift was the turning point. I think it's game 6 that I'm thinking of.

If you really want your kid to have a great baseball pitching career teach him to throw like Tim Lincecum. That kid's as close to injury resistant as it gets and it's all because his pitching mechanics are scientifically honed to perfection. His father taught him to pitch like that. You should look that story up-- it's actually a touching father-son tale.

No you're the idiot. That kitten was the reincarnation of Hitler. By saving that kitten Crosby's set us up for another horrible genocide. Moreover, by turning the kitten into a golden unicorn he gave it both the capacity to impale people AND the ability to buy unlimited supplies via golden unicorn poop. I bet you don't even watch the X-Files.
