One thing we're really missing on the PK is the shotblocking and crease clearing Lilja provided. Towards the end of the year when he was healthy the PK started looking good again, and I really believe Lilja's shotblocking and crease clearing was a huge part of that. The other part is probably defensive coaching.... that's the only other thing that's changed.

I assume you believe Kronwall jumps into his hits. Do me a favour and go look closely at a video of some of his hits. Slow it right down and watch his skates just as he hits the other player. Kronwall leaves his feet as he follows through on the hit, he doesn't jump to hit the people. That's why he never gets penalized on the plays.

Lots of us commented that we liked the officiating in games 1 and 2. I freaking loved that officiating-- they let both teams play and called penalties consistently.

For any Pens goal I could run through the video and pick out a non-call that makes it "undeserved". The NHL rulebook allows for so much vagueness and necessitates interpretation that we end up getting this kind of s***. Also, announcers talking about something for any length of time has no bearing on its validity.

We know Dats has been injured in some capacity since the regular season, that much has been clear from his shot selection, passing and play with the puck along the boards. He has, however, been our best defensive forward (tied with Z) all post season. The Wings don't need him to come back and score in bunches as much as they need him to come back and hold onto the puck, steal the puck and play amazing on the PK.

So basically, interference should be called on anyone who isn't Hall Gill. Dude Gill commits at least 5 blatant interference penalties a game. At least. In other news, this thread is retarded. The Wings lost because they played like s*** tonight. Turn overs, poor play, constant defensive miscues (especially between Lebda and Ericsson- how many ******* times do we have to watch the two go after the same puck without communicating properly?). Oh, and the Wings refused to finish. Hossa had two great chances on scramble plays that he fumbled. That and the Wings need someone to get the damn puck out on the PK so the guys can get a change before 1:30 have gone by. That second PP goal by the Pens was inevitable given the 1:30 shift by the penalty killers.

Looks like Babs is sorting the lines to provide the best mix of defensive skill on each of the top 3 lines... Maybe Sammy has one of those injuries that you can play on but you don't want to push it by practicing on? I hope we don't lose Sammy's offensive skill in the line-up, though. We need as much offensive depth as we can get.

While that's the best strategy to beat the Wings, you really can't expect to morph yourself into a super-high grit anti-Wings team like the Ducks. They designed their team like that from the start. Now you can see why Wings fans said the series against the Ducks would be the hardest series this year. The Ducks are the very definition of anti-Wings. You guys still have 5 games to try and pull out 4 wins, but I don't think you'll do so by changing the way the Pens play, the Pens have to keep trying to play their game instead of trying to counter the Wings' game.
