Gerber gets tossed; CuJo turns back the clock
Drake_Marcus replied to MacK_Attack's topic in General
My response was based on his firing a puck at the ref afterwords (at least according to TSN). I can understand how mad he was at the questionable call, but not shooting the puck at the ref. -
The misconception that Datsyuk and Zetterberg are equal

He deserves 10. That was completely unacceptable behaviour from an adult, let alone from a professional athlete. I only caught the game from OT on. CuJo looked great out there, and the look on his face after he kept it even through the OT period was priceless. He looked like he won the lottery. -
At least the drunk fans will have more fun, regardless of who wins.

If I were the manager of a team like Atlanta that can afford that player anyway, and would love to stick them in for half the price, I'd do it just to spite the f***ers that are trying to skirt the rules by doing this.

http://stats.theahl.com/stats/player.php?id=2240 7 GP 2 Goals, 4 Assists and he's a +5 Played a great game tonight- 1 goal and 1 helper. This kid just might have it!

I think it's more along the lines of- seniority trumps competence in a head to head competition for a reffing position. I guess they assume that the more games a ref's called without losing his job the better he must be at reffing?
-
No listen here Eva- I have a hard time believing that in the course of a game-deciding shoot-out, the losing goalie would express an honest (but misguided) argument that the winning goal was in-fact a non-goal! I mean be reasonable here.

My first trip into Madison Square Garden tonight

Really? Man I'd get killed in NYC. I'm one of those Canadians that are terrible at not being friendly -
I don't think that's what Ducky meant. I think he's saying that someone will literally force a 60 year old Chelios to stop playing hockey in some league somewhere. The man loves the sport so damn much he'll do it until his very life and legacy is threatened.

Just listen to him read off the stories of those heroes that died in Afghanistan. You can hear it in his voice... it just kills him to think about what those families are going through. Say what you want about Cherry's opinions, but he's a good man at heart.

Agreed. Norris means "Best Defenseman", not best forward that lines up south of centre ice.
-
Sweet. I say the Bruins make an example of him by trading him to Detroit for Bret Lebda. Yeah- that'll teach that young upstart.

The following quotes were shamelessly stolen from TSN. Feel free to praise Ozzy for keeping the Wings in the game in the first! He made some great saves and these last four games have been a pleasure to watch.

I can't get the image of fattie Osgood stuffed into goalie gear and shoved in front of my net out of my head. Wait, isn't this a subplot in Mighty Ducks?
-
I can't help but feel that Ozzie's turned the corner These last 4 games have really been great with Ozzie between the pipes. Here's hoping he'll play even better between now and the end of the summer!

I'm guilty of this as well. I'm excited that Lidstrom picked up a pair of assists, but I was hoping Datsyuk would get at least 3 points to pull him up to 90. Oh well... 10 more games... here's hoping both Dats AND Lids manage to put up more than 10 more points before the regular season's over.

Well perhaps it wasn't "tame", but I've seen more elaborate celebrations. All that being said- I think he would have been better off just playing it cool and minimizing the celebrations. But I can't criticize him for hit- he's earned the ability to be a cocky bastard- he's the best goal scorer in the league by a country mile.

Martin Brodeur: Great Goalie, Questionable Morals
Drake_Marcus replied to mmorland's topic in General
The general public shouldn't be reading about his alimony payments! Leave the man's dirty laundry in the hamper. Plus, should his kid know about this? I'm glad I never knew that kind of detail about my parents' divorce as a child. -
Really? Come on man... tons of NHL players celebrate their goals. That celebration was pretty tame for your 50th goal of the season. Plus there's a general feeling that Ovi hams it up a bit to thumb his nose at Grapes and his other critics. Thumbing your nose at media critics is something many NHL players appreciate just a bit. I think that sentiment saves Ovi a bit in the long run. Plus- Ovechkin is far more respected than Turgeon was.

Friday: Minnesota @ New Jersey NY Islanders @ Carolina Philadelphia @ Buffalo Los Angeles @ Pittsburgh Detroit @ Atlanta Edmonton @ Chicago St Louis @ Calgary Saturday: Dallas @ San Jose Toronto@ Montreal (I'm tempted to pick Toronto because of their away record, but Montreal is playing for their playoff lives in this game) NY Islanders @ Ottawa Buffalo @ NY Rangers Washington @ Carolina (very tough call to make- this could go either way...) Columbus @ Florida (Columbus is rotten on the road and Florida needs this win badly) Atlanta @ Tampa Bay Vancouver @ Phoenix Sunday: Philadelphia @ Pittsburgh (blood match... again, this is really tough to call) New Jersey @ Boston (Boston's had a long time to think about this... they'll be real hungry for this win) Los Angeles @ Chicago Edmonton @ Minnesota Ottawa @ NY Rangers (again, a real tough call, but Ottawa's away record and NY's home record are stark contrasts) Phoenix @ Anaheim Colorado @ San Jose This will be a really tough week. It's hard to predict a team's performance in the last few weeks before the playoffs based on their previous play. These weeks are always full of surprises.
