You must not be including defensemen in your skill rankings. He's still been playing great since being benched. It's only fair to give credit where it's due. I'm not saying he's a top six forward, just that he's been playing the best hockey of his NHL career over the last two weeks.

We're all aware that this isn't the norm in regards to Kopy, but that doesn't preclude us from giving him a pat on the back and admitting he exceeded our expectations, even if only for a brief time.

See the area I highlighted in Booster's comments. They hit the nail on the head. I certainly don't anticipate this kind of production to be an sort of norm for Kopecky (he looks like a career banger no matter how you slice it- anything else is an unexpected bonus). That doesn't mean we can't give him a virtual pat on the back, especially considering how he's generally viewed on these forums (with good reason- he really is one of it not the weakest links on the team). Nope. I've been shouting Hudler's praises since the 06-07 season. There's no need for me to post this kind of thread about someone I've liked since they played in Grand Rapids.

And now the higher voiced announcer is defending the call against Jody Shelly... Maybe I'm wrong about his blatent homerism? Or maybe he just has a penalty fetish?

Holy s***. I can't ******* stand the higher voiced announcer for the Sharks. He's easily one of the most blatent homers and definitely the most blatent whiner I've heard announcing a hockey game this year. (Although I just heard him call Joe Thorton out on his penalty call acting for 'dressing it up') The other guy (with the deeper voice) is just fine, though.

Yeah you're right- Kopecky's produced like a point per game player many times in the past. Keep going Einstein- you're only making yourself look dumber. (Man I hope I can get into that hockey training course that teaches you to anticipate that a guy like Kopecky isn't a fringe player after putting up only 26 points and a 0+/- in 164 games on the Red Wings)

Why do people insist on calling a it "PANIC" when someone points out a fact about the Wings needs for improvement? Apparently being nearly last in PK and in the bottom quarter of the league in GAA is just dandy. Let's all walk around with s***-eating grins and pretend that the Wings are having one of their worst defensive seasons in a decade. Because hey- I'm rationally pointing out areas where the Wings need to improve- I must be panicking uncontrollably.

I was mostly pointing out the jumping up and down and screaming. I didn't say he was wrong for doing it- just that when Ovi jumps up and down with his hands in the air screaming he's a "showboat", and when Crosby does it he's being "passionate". Both guys are passionate about the game- Ovechkin's just doing it more often. Comparing him to Crosby in light of this seems stupid since Crosby is as emotional as Ovi. If Grapes was comparing Ovi to Stevie then sure, Ovi is a big ol' showboat.

That's all I'm asking from the Wings. Just tighten up defensively and understand that you can't walk into the play offs and turn it on... they need to play another 20 games of tight defensive hockey. Hopefully this embarrassment chafes their asses enough to get them angry. Please Red Wings- play with a chip on your shoulder!

Thanks. It's a time honoured tactic used to dismiss an argument. Certainly not highbrow, but it has uses. I honestly don't see why that sentence is supposed to convince me he's a ******. So basically, you dislike him because he wasn't as well informed as you'd like and he was part of a chique? You must hate most of the boards. I liked Legionnaire because he was interesting and posted things that were different enough to be worth reading. He made the boards more interesting for me. Dismissing him because he didn't follow the Wings as his favourite team was a popular pursuit for most of the spiteful, low brow posters on the boards. Ovechkin is what he is. I wouldn't ask him to change his passion or the way he shows it just like no one asked Stevie to be more of a showman. Stevie's humility is just one reason why he was respected and admired... no one said that every player Detroit fans cheer for from now on has to be like Stevie.
