I'm pretty sure he wasn't aiming for that guy's ass hole. He was just punching indesciminately because he was emotionally caught up in the act. My one issue with that clip is when he attacks the guy's head from behind. It looked nearly identical to the Burt/Moore hit (although it was definitely the fall followed by the pile-up on Moore that caused that level of damage to him). Skating up and punching the back of someone's helmet is pretty dangerous (although I'm sure it wasn't a deliberate attack intended to injure- again, he was caught up in the emotion of the situation- Sidney's never shown himself to be a hitman out there). If someone on Philly punched a guy in the head from behind like that there'd be an uproar. Crosby or not that punch to the back of the head warranted at least a warning from the league. Before anyone jumps down my throat screaming that I'm a "h8ter" please reread how I stated my point- it's NOT about who punched who- it's about where and how they punched the person and the recent history behind situations like that in the NHL.

Alright- that does it... the dice have screwed me into last or second last twice and given me first overall once. I'm dumping the dice thing. Time to go back to making educated guesses!

Fedorov easily. In his prime he was an absolute monster. Until last year he was the last person to score 5 goals in a game. Feds had such a sickening amount of pure, raw talent it was amazing. He scored at will, could skate laps around the competition and his defensive play was so good Bowman said he could win a Norris. Unlike Datsyuk and Ovechkin, Fedorov was lazy. He definitely took his skill for granted and sat back quite a bit after making a name for himself in his MVP season. Motivation was always the problem for Feds. I honesly believe that if he had the work ethic of Zetterberg he'd be considered one of the greatest players all time. He was just that skilled.

DAMN it was good to see everyone play well for 60 mins. Not just playing well- but playing Red Wings Hockey. Lidstrom was a Norris winning defenseman in his own end, not too suprising as his play has been trending back up to his regular level- with only his scoring yet to get back up there. Lilja and Stewart had fantastic games. Lilja is really, really playing well right now. Zetterberg was about as good as you can be without picking up a point. Conks got to play behind the team he signed up for- the best defensive team in the NHL (as opposed to the Wings that'd shown up for every other game this season aside from the last shut-out). Red Wings Hockey. Let's see more of that. Edit: Haha- I forgot to mention that my boy Pavel had a pretty decent game tonight too. And unlike Malkin he didn't need a ***** empty net goal to get his 4 points tonight.

Oh yeah- Franzen's goal was definitely the turning point. It was like an instant momentum shift... Man oh man this game was great. We've been waiting 30 games to see them play like they are capable of playing. I love that we've played 2 games against the Sharks- one on their ice with our boys coming off a hard-fought game the night before, and the other with the Sharks ending a back to back in our rink. The result? A close loss to the Sharks in our back to back and a dominating win over the Sharks in their back to back. I'd say the season series is tipped in the Wings favour at this point. Hopefully the Sharks come back down to Earth now... no one is safe from a slump in the new NHL

Only a handful of competitive teams had the cap room at this point- NY and Vancouver (with NY having to dump salary to make room had he picked them). Your comment would be valid had Sundin chosen Vancouver in the summer when the contract was actually worth 10 million. Instead he lost money sitting around being painfully indecisive.

You're kidding right? Holland would JUMP at the idea of trading Hulder+ for Turco. Turco's a top five goalie in this league in any other year than this one. He's relatively young as far as starting goalies go, and he's at his lowest point in trade value right now. Anyone that thinks all-star goalies magically lose their ability and become instantly crap is an idiot. Turco's the same goalie that drove us to 6 games after being up 3-0. He's struggling this year on a Dallas team that's been hamstrung with injuries. Kipper has had some rotten starts to some seasons, but he's a game stealing goalie. At this time last year would you be laughing at the idea of acquiring him?

Oh stop it. The Stars are far from the worst team in the Western conference- they just have the worst record. Rebiero, Mikey and Richards are legitimate top line players- maybe not clicking lately, but stop being so absurd. And Turco's an allstar goalie that's been playing like s*** this season- that doesn't mean he can't step up and steal games (he had some pretty good stops tonight). You're acting like they're the Blue Jackets. They've been playing like crap, but they're not a crap team. Tonight they played better than us.

Dude- you've got to be kidding. The Wings know what Thursday's game means. We're going to see an awesome effort out of them in that game. Bank on it. Last Sharks win was a hard fought game but the Wings had just played the f***s. Similarly, this Thursday's game will be on the end of a Shark back to back.

Actually- it deflected over the net off of Nik. TSN showed the replay from behind the net and you see Lidstrom is in front of the puck and deflects it a bit upward.
